I am still on cloud 9 after yesterday.
I love that this thread is in classics!
I also love all the terrible French, my did would love you lot. For some reason dd and I speak terrible French to each other, stems from a holiday in France where we started reading all the French strictly phonetically in broad West Country accents. salade nicoise for instance pronounced salayde nee-coyce. Anyway when we got sight of the menu all in French we had a fit of the giggles.
Anyway, what we ate.
Amuse bouches - some cheese tart with quince caviare, and a Moroccan flavoured puff pastry thingy.
Then a cup of asparagus soup.
Fucking gorgeous bread. FUCK YOU ATKINS
Starter - I have a lobster thing,, half a lobster shell filled with some divine sauce, lobster, and vegetables. Dd had the rabbit terrine with brioche.
main - I had duck confit with fondant potato, Cheerios, cherry sauce, little onion garnishes. Dd had a minute steak with some bone marrow, a RIDICULOUSLY DELICIOUS port sauce, some crispy suds things, and some SHIT SMEARS ON A PLATE (in reality another sauce, god knows what)
Puddings. I had the trolley des fromages which was amazing, I also had the raspberry roulade (oink) and the we ordered the assisted des puddings - selection of six of their puddings, one of them covered in gold leaf, bling my pudding mothefuckers.
I also had a couple of glasses of cha, page and a bottle of wine between two, dd drank 5.7 ml of the wine so the rest was consumed by moi.
Coffee and petits fours.
If we hadn't ordered extras and ran the bill up to 190 quid and just stuck to set lunch it would have been 105 quid which I think is STUPENDOUS value for what you get. And it's not just the food. I have eaten some loveyly food in my time and this was ridiculously delicious, but what made it so fantastic was the service, I have never had service like it. Very friendly but not servile, but you never have to look around for attention, they seem almost psychic. You run out of water, they are there, fold your napkins when you go to the loo, refill your glass. All lovely. And quite a young bunch of staff and distinctly non stuffy. Plus the Maitre'd was GORG so me and dd gazed at him and were consoled about Michels absence.
We booked again for September when we left, I cannot recommend it enough.
I a, going to be really fucking disappointed the next time I go to Nandos aren't I.
