DH is here but has a long drive in the morning. We're trying to decide if he's better off here or being carted off for half an hour's drive in cold to be put to sleep at the moment. He's gone quiet pretty much so might be best if he slips away here. Hating kitten rearing at the moment.

Kestryn · 22/07/2011 02:33

It must be horrible :(
I don't know, but I'd have thought it would be nicer for him to stay there unless he's really in pain. Warm & snug & familiar.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 22/07/2011 02:42

That's kind of where we're coming from, will have to rethink in a bit if necessary, thank you for your support. DD is going to be distraught and has to go to school in the morning.

Kestryn · 22/07/2011 02:49

Poor DD :( How old is she?
I don't suppose there's any chance of the vet coming to you?

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 22/07/2011 03:01

She's 12. The emergency vets wanted us to take our cat to them when she was midway delivering her first kitten so don't reckon we'd have a hope on that front.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 22/07/2011 04:39

RIP Titch Sad

He made a huge impression for such a little bundle. His mother was fabulous with him to the last, he used to spend ages tucked under her chin or paw.

Her Mum just came for a cuddle, the Dawn chorus has just started. The rest of them are sleeping and looking at them they have all grown so much in the last few days unlike Titch who followed the classic signs of Fading Kitten Syndrome.

ClaireDeLoon · 22/07/2011 06:12

Oh Wynken how heartbreaking :(

Pinot · 22/07/2011 08:43

Oh Wynken. I'm crying for him. It's like Rosie all over again.

There is nothing to compare to the absolute horror of watching a tiny one fade. It has stayed with me and I'm sure, sadly, that Titch will stay with you.

I am so, so sorry Wynken. I'm away from tonight on holiday with no internet access so I can only send you lots of love and hope and strength. Hoping that when I get back you have 5 thriving little ones and a happy Mum cat.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 22/07/2011 09:38

Thank you both and so sorry Pinot, this must be horrible for you reading about it all over again.

We did know he didn't have a good chance, he was so visibly struggling compared to the others, she's not a big cat and old at 5 and a half for a first (will be only) litter, 7 was a lot. We tried our best and it wasn't meant to be. A friend's DH said they often only manage to rear 5.

DD doesn't know, DH told her I was sleeping as up all night. She'll be really cross but a lot of her class are leaving today and she does really need to be there.

DS is off today so we're going out for a bit later. The other 5 do look healthy as far as we can tell which is great, so hopefully all will be well and they will all have their eyes open by the time you get back Pinot. Thanks again.

ExitPursuedByAGryffin · 22/07/2011 09:38

Noooooo. Blubbing away here.

Kestryn · 22/07/2011 10:20

I meant to stay up with you but fell asleep during the backup. I'm sorry Wynken :( Did you stay at home?

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 22/07/2011 11:39

Exit, have a tissue, I have a pile.

Kestryn, you were a great help, thank you. He was very quiet in the end and just slipped away. I decided the trauma of being carted around in a box for half an hour would be worse.

Although very very sad about Titch and dreading DD coming home have decided to focus on the fact we do have 5 rapidly growing little balls of kitten here so thought we could do with another photo to cheer us up. The little grey and White face is the teeny at birth one who has gone from 64g to 114g in just under 5 days

SummerRain · 22/07/2011 11:45

Oh Wynken... I'm sorry. I've experianced a kitten dying in my arms too despite my best efforts and it was one of the worst experiances of my life. I hope you're doing ok. Lots of sweet tea helps with the shock.

Console yourself that you did everything you could, if there was any chance he could have survived he would have because of your love and care, some of them just aren't strong enough or have congenital problems to start with.

ExitPursuedByAGryffin · 22/07/2011 12:14

Love the new pic. That is some weight gain!

Summer is right - if love could have saved Titch he would have survived. There is so much pain and suffering in the world - at least Titch experienced the best of everything in his short existence.

Pinot · 22/07/2011 15:54

Summer is right you know, her words when Rosie died cut straight to exactly what I was feeling - horror - and she's right again here.

But - and a big but - it is so worth the effort of raising little ones. I had to drop Meow and Ginger at my Mums flat earlier and I sobbed leaving them. It struck me that I haven't gone more than 4hrs without them apart from one day trip to London for my sisters 21st. I now feel like my right arm is missing and am a bit choked up - especially seeing gorgeous kitten photos!!

Hugs and kisses and little tiny mewmew noises to your fur babies xx

Thank you all so much, feel a bit better today, we'll never forget him and know we did all we could. He's going to have a funeral this afternoon. DD is a little better having been fairly hysterical last night.

On a more positive note we have Eyes ! And I've tried sexing them and are trying to guess if long or short haired. Current guesses are black and White long haired male, female short haired for big and little grey and whites, big tabby short haired make, little tabby long haired female (just like her Mum). I will laugh at how wrong I am in a few weeks no doubt.

Have told the children we can keep one and have possible homes for them potentially which would be great if they all happen, as would be happy with all of them. Can't believe this time last week we had no idea she'd be having kittens!

Kestryn · 28/07/2011 21:14

I hope the funeral went all right, Wynken - is your DD ok now? The other kittens sound gorgeous. If my DP wasn't allergic I'd have a houseful myself.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 09/08/2011 21:22

A belated thanks Kestryn. We went away for a week, was meant to be for two but weather not great and we missed the kittens like mad so came home. They are still at neighbours as house being rewired and are coming home in a couple of days.

DD was very upset at the funeral but is fine now. The kittens have grown loads and Big Tabby was practicing walking today up and down the box very proudly until he fell over splat against the side. They play with each other now and can hear you coming. Hopefully all five have homes now, we are keeping one and so is our neighbour. She knows which one she is having, we are struggling a bit on that one !

Recent Photo of one .

Pinot · 11/08/2011 15:30

Back home from my hols and glad to hear they're doing well Wynken.

My Mum has done a very good job with Meow & Ginger the last three weeks - sending me regular pictures so I could coo like a loon. I missed them a stupid amount but happy to say they're home & purring, and just a bit bigger. Meow is terrorising the dogs and Ginger remains chilled out.

LOVE THEM!

Welcome back Pin0t - Hope you had a lovely time. New pics please Grin

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 13/08/2011 10:24

Photos please Pinot. Did you have a good holiday? Thank you again for your help when they were born, you were a huge help. I'm still gutted about Titch but it's a bit easier now.

The lady who is interested in two is coming today . It's a two hour drive so hopefully she is pretty keen. We think we will probably keep this little fella who is possibly going to be Bilbo.

And here are two of his sisters. Promise I will stop the photos now. Big tabby found the cat food today and started licking the jelly, they are 4 weeks tomorrow so guess they are moving towards weaning - think their Mum will be delighted and then she can go to the vets so will very definitely be spayed for certain this time. Still can't believe she had kittens for the first time age 5 and a half.

Pinot · 14/08/2011 10:30

5 new photos are up They are B-I-G now! 17 weeks yesterday!

Hi Wynken! Back to my normal MN name with the Kittens bit attached! At 4 weeks they're doing brilliantly to be sniffing at food - I had a battle and a half to get mine to go from bottle to food (mashed potato with kitty milk did it in the end!!) so I'm envious of a kitten seeming to wean himself! Wink Lovely pics too - can you tell Bilbo my two have the exact same mouse!
