Is there a new thread yet? I can't find one?

l have seen that guy make odd comments before, think he has been rude calling the manager 'love' and commenting on her taking a break, but l do find the long positive posts annoying 😆Everyone has too much time on their hands with the lack of content. A previous poster mentioned the postive emojis becoming grating, l have always found them a bit OTT.

Turtle066 · 19/09/2024 12:42

What is "we are freelancers, not employees" supposed to mean anyway? It is not a charity work nor is it a slave labor camp, even though it feels like one.

Absolutely, those long positive posts are just sucking up so badly, I find them really irritating.

The ones posting the positive posts are either blissfully unaware of what is going on or in denial. Maybe they’re not worrying about how they’re going to pay their bills next month or feed their children.

Itsenough4now · 19/09/2024 13:39

I found it sad to see no SM allay the fears or even comfort those who are genuinely anxious about the situation. I think no amount of sucking up or believing this is 'seasonal' will change the fact that much much lower earnings are the future (although I hope I am wrong). I am looking for alternative work, fingers crossed for all of us.

Maybe they will be more empathetic when the company comes for their jobs.

@Pumpkittenspice Do you have to be invited for the shopper panel? I can't seem to join without an invite

I didn’t when I joined, but that was over two years ago

I’m lucky if I make 70p an hour on potato at the moment ☹️

Haha, I've not been on Potato for about a while now, but I feel like I remember this guy (if it is the same one). 😂Do they still have the mental health Slack channel that was set up when everyone had to look at footage from the Gaza conflict? I found it a bit off that their response to having to view these jarring images and videos was not increased pay but gifs of kittens. 🙄

Spirogyra · 20/09/2024 10:06

It may be the same guy, another time he was scornful about people struggling to meet the minimum on a quiet month, and mentioned that he had done an absolutely staggering amount. There was somebody else that wrote very OTT sarcastic messages, he has gone now. Yes there is still that channel, l looked in the other day, still going but much quieter now.

I have had nothing since I logged on an hour ago, so 70p would be great, 😂😩But apparently, everything is working now.

I don't bother to sit by the computer anymore, I just get on with stuff and check it when I walk past.

jazzandh · 20/09/2024 12:42

I suspect they're moving content to other countries where they can get the work processed cheaper. India and The Philippines would be my guess....

Blinglover · 20/09/2024 13:14

I agree @jazzandh that it's possibly going offshore elsewhere, but do also wonder if some work is being now done by AI? Do think it's curtains for the UK people...

They are still advertising for content moderators in the Philippines on their website, among other roles, so it looks like they’ve set up an office there. A quick google suggests the average wage there works out to be around £8.80 a day.

Toodaloobaloo · 20/09/2024 13:36

The annoying thing is, this likely will have been in the planning for months, and we still haven’t been told anything. A heads up so people can go look for a new job more than 3 months before Christmas would be nice, but then that would be the ethical thing to do.

AdaShelby · 20/09/2024 13:54

It's definitely curtains for UK people. They're advertising for mods in the Philippines.

Anyone who thinks we will still have any type of job there in 3 months is on glue.

Toodaloobaloo · 20/09/2024 15:23

Some people still think it’s a technical problem and are being a bit delulu.

Itsenough4now · 20/09/2024 15:51

To be fair I think it's hopeful thinking and the SM encourage it. It's incredibly cruel.

Toodaloobaloo · 20/09/2024 16:10

Yes, I think you’re right @Itsenough4now . Why won’t they just put everyone out of their misery? Are they just hoping people just get fed up and leave quietly?

Buster27 · 22/09/2024 23:28

Just catching up on potato and feel really bad for the people who are stressing over bills 😔 Things have been slowing down for quite a while, but it seems to be declining rapidly now. I feel like the work could stop quite abruptly, so hope those relying on it are looking for other work.

AdaShelby · 23/09/2024 06:40

It's sad if they can't pay their bills but that's not changing anytime soon. They need to be job hunting.

After all these years is anyone else not surprised? They're acted immorally time and time again and here we are now. I hope their clients find out how they treat their staff.

Shame on you Crisp Thinking.

Honestly. I used to be able to earn £1000++ in a month 4 years ago (lock down)

Thats when they had surges. They had big clients.

I left 1.5 years ago when major clients started disappearing.

The writing was on the wall back then.

Blinglover · 23/09/2024 08:38

I've contracted for Potato and other places over the years including a long time for Ap$$n where it was clear about 3 years ago that the writing was on the wall there and that Ap$$n were just using contractors to test out AI for big social media/internet organisations; I also realised then that it would mean in turn that Potato's shelf life would be limited so I added other stuff to my income streams to replace them. I too feel for those people who are reliant on just place to help them pay their bills and just hope they are job hunting. I had no loyalty to Potato or its management who are awful. But actually, crap management, sad to say, is a norm in all bar one of the five companies I've contracted with - one just paid me 4 months' late after a lot of chasing. You really are just a disposable minion to these organisations and they don't care/give a shit.

Backtothepalmtrees · 23/09/2024 09:18

Crisp Thinking used to be a good employer when the work was in abundance every single day, a guaranteed at least £10 an hour, guaranteed 20 hours a week, the bigger they got the crappier they got including the attitude of the shift managers, no morals that company whatsoever, they do not care for their moderating staff one iota sadly.
