Is there a new thread yet? I can't find one?

Can I ask a question about Prolific please? From what I gather, it's a survey site? Do you end up sharing personal data and opinions?

I tried to sign up to it but they only have a waitlist open at the moment.

(Does anyone know if it's likely to open again soon?)

ZetaPuppis · 09/04/2024 16:06

@sosickofbeingskint go through the list on the other thread and see what might work for you. Some of the work is quite technical and some is fairly straightforward.

Dataannotation is a popular one at the moment but seems to be hard to get in!
If you can code, they'll pay $40 an hour and $20 for training AI.

Thanks @MissIndecisive2023 and @sorrynotathome
I was going to suggest it to my student ds

Good idea! They need a broad demographic so definitely worth your DS applying. In terms of personal data, when I said “yes” I meant that some surveys ask personal questions but of course anonymity is preserved. How you answer questions is entirely up to you but I tend to be truthful.

Does anyone do any work for RWS group? I came across them and they seem to be similar to Appen for rater work.
They also have train aI community.
They seem legit but I haven't checked them out yet.

Thanks not heard of RWS will check them out as not heard anything back from DA so presume I failed.

planningforthefuture · 11/04/2024 17:35

I applied to DA last week and I still have the we will be in touch message. Gutted, I was hoping that was going to be my saviour! Can't seem to get anything decent at the moment.

It all depends on your specific demographics and how 'in need' researchers are of them at the time. Some people get in right away, others stay on the wait list for months or longer.

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 28/04/2024 18:26

Does anyone know of any good data entry or proof reading companies? My husband works in IT but is not working at the moment and we need some more money on top of my salary to pay our rather large mortgage. We desperately want to survive until he finds work again.

ZetaPuppis · 29/04/2024 11:00

@wonderingwhatlifemeans has he tried data annotation? It pays well if you can get in. It's aI based work.

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 29/04/2024 12:26

@ZetaPuppis we both tried to get in but didn't hear anything.

ZetaPuppis · 29/04/2024 14:31

@wonderingwhatlifemeans same here!

What about transcription? It can take a while to get up to speed but can make a bit of money.

Had my best ever prolific day yesterday £56 in surveys and a £20 bonus payment. Very happy

Amethyst93 · 07/05/2024 10:45

Hi, first time poster here but long time follower of this thread!

I signed up to Prolific yesterday and was accepted straight away which is great! I have signed up to Search Sciences and Data Annotation but with no success so far. I had an issue with my email address during my SS application so got in touch and was told that although they had received my application, they weren’t looking to recruit right now. Such a shame as I’ve heard great things on this thread about SS so I was looking forward to what that might offer. Then with DA, I think I received the same response as everyone else really! I haven’t yet had an email response but every time I refresh the ‘Work on projects’ tab, I receive the same automated response thanking me for my time and saying they’ll be in touch if they need me.

I don’t know how others are feeling but I feel quite disheartened reading threads from a couple of years ago where people were able to earn a lot from these side projects and even though I’m absolutely willing to put in the time, there just doesn’t seem that opportunity there anymore. I am just so pleased I’ve been accepted onto Prolific and I’m taking on anything that comes my way from them because it might be all that’s available.

I just wondered if anyone had had any success in signing up to anything different that they might recommend? I would just really love that but of extra income to top things up, as we all would!

Thanks!

ruralwanderer · 07/05/2024 14:15

Hi Amethyst93, welcome to the thread! Prolific is a great place to start. I'm only doing SS right now so cannot advise on other income sources, but I'm sure plenty of others will come along soon to let you know what other companies are hiring/worthwhile at the moment.

Backtothepalmtrees · 07/05/2024 18:01

How’s it going at Crisp or whatever they call themselves these days ?

I so miss the work but glad to be free of the company itself

Spirogyra · 07/05/2024 19:08

It did pick up a lot in March with shifts being available in the evenings, and even a few surges, but since April it has gone much quieter again. l am not sure why as there seem to be the same clients and same amount of workers. l am continuing with it but am earning a lot less than l did a few years ago.

Spirogyra · 07/05/2024 19:13

@Amethyst93 Don't know of any others, although there are loads of other survey companies if you like doing them. l only do Crisp which is rarely busy these days.
You must be in a demographic that is needed by Prolific to get accepted so quickly, l finally applied a few months ago but have not heard anything. Also planning to apply to DA, l keep putting it off as l am sure l will fail as l am not at all creative.

Amethyst93 · 07/05/2024 19:54

Thanks @Spirogyra! I will apply to Crisp anyway and just see what comes up. Is it still called Crisp because when I’ve looked I don’t think I can find the right page.

I’ve definitely been lucky with Prolific and I was shocked to be accepted so quickly when I’ve read on here how long people are waiting. I applied for DA last night and even though they may have not viewed my application yet, I haven’t received an instant response like a lot of people have so I’m not holding out much hope there. I worked really hard on my application too, it took me ages and I really felt like I was submitting something worthy but it’s early days and I still might hear back. Just make sure when you apply, you put a couple of hours to one side because it really does take some time!

Spirogyra · 07/05/2024 21:22

Crisp is called Resolver now, l didn't use that name as am so used to the old one. It rarely has enough work in the daytime now, so you are wasting time waiting for an item of work to load, but if you are an imsomniac there are less people working after midnight, so there are often shifts then, which means £2 per hour extra.
l most not keep putting off applying for DA. l was reading the Reddit thread about it, and some people had to wait a while before they got an acceptence email, so you might have got in. It sounds great for those that do.

If anyone would like a link to join Pinecone Research then PM me and I can send one over.

DesperateDelia · 10/05/2024 15:54

Hi everyone. I was on these threads many years ago when I was self employed but I've lost touch with everything.

I work full time for someone else now Monday to Friday. My partner has become ill, not ill enough to claim benefits but too ill to work and everything is falling to me.

I still have my prolific account which is helping but I really need to earn an extra £300+ a month if I can, preferably through online work. Please help if you have any ideas or suggestions 🙏 Tia.

PartoftheBand · 15/05/2024 13:25

I tried to sign up to Data Annotation yesterday but am unable to enter my phone number despite trying to type it in various different formats - just can't get any further than that screen - any ideas?

I currently just do surveys on Prolific and ipsos and occasionally Attapoll and generally earn £50-100 a month from these.

Did you have the correct code for UK and take the 0 off your number?

carerlookingtochangejob · 15/05/2024 20:25

Can I join you all? Desperately in need of bringing in a few extra hundred pounds a month. Business is rubbish just now and I'm struggling to keep my head above water.

Any advise or suggestions on where to start would be amazing

Yes (also tried every other combination with/ without 0 and with/without UK code when this didn't work)

How strange I hope you manage to get it sorted, I know I had problems at first but it was because I had the 0 in and once I had removed it, it worked ok.
