Well ... it's been one hell of a month hasn't it? I hope everyone is safe and well (and not going too mad with kids and partners at home!). As always, referral links and new starters are welcome, think we're all going to need a boost financially over the next few months.

Surprised to see a job ad for Lionbridge in the Guardian, not sure why, I just kind of thought these jobs were top secret! 🤣

@Catatemyhomework I withdrew from payoneer yesterday morning and the money hit my account early evening.

Catatemyhomework · 16/04/2020 16:03

@bookgirl1982, thanks. I've just checked again and it's there!

lannister · 16/04/2020 16:05

Another new recruit to the potatoe family here. So ecstatic, have wanted this since forever!

TomTomRunner · 16/04/2020 16:15

@ricecrispiecake

It is one of the companies listed in the OP.....potato thinking. We aren't supposed to mention the brand name directly I think!

TomTomRunner · 16/04/2020 16:46

Waiting to hear if I have passed potato. I think I took too long and was over cautious if anything.

Well done to those that have got through!

DarkPassenger · 16/04/2020 17:06

Bugger, 17/20 on my retry. Only stale, soggy potato snacks for me then Confused

Fedupandpoor · 16/04/2020 17:19

Padded my potato exam! 🍾

Fedupandpoor · 16/04/2020 17:20

*Passed Blush

Fedupandpoor · 16/04/2020 17:22

Don't be too jealous. I average two to three times more per hour on my Appen projects than C*p, although I know I may be alone! It's better if you can work the surges.

@ChubRubTub Does that mean you make £30 per hour or is the promised £10 per hour just a carrot on a stick?

Flube · 16/04/2020 18:01

@rhij86 Have you had anything on LB? I've not had anything in ages. Hmm

rhij86 · 16/04/2020 19:56

@flube today is the first day in 10 days that I've logged in but I managed 1hr 20 this morning before the tasks ran out. Have you been paid at all by them yet?

ChubRubTub · 16/04/2020 19:58

We get into trouble if we mention pay rates for potato! There's always work, but sometimes the system runs really slow. You have to wait ages for items to load, so it's hard to achieve the advertised pay rates. (You need to work two open windows when this happens). There are shifts when you've been working longer and the rates are guaranteed for those.

I've had some very high hourly rates for my Appen projects. If you work fast and get through a lot of items on some, then they can work out very well (the transcription one is a recent good earner). They're usually short term though, whereas potato always has work - so there's advantages/disadvantages to both.

ChubRubTub · 16/04/2020 20:06

@SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock I wonder if I'll start with the tat and have to work my way up?!

If you get a certain site can you pick anything you want (within the guidelines?), or are you directed to set items?

Flube · 16/04/2020 20:08

I must be logging in at the wrong bloody times. I've had nothing since our last good lot. Sad

It would help if they actually emailed and let us know!

Yes got paid on Tuesday. Have you?

I have still not been paid by A* though. I have finally had a response, about half an hour ago, saying that they will be resending my cancelled payment asap. Hmm

Flube · 16/04/2020 20:09

@rhij86 ^

rhij86 · 16/04/2020 20:15

@Flube today I logged in around 10.30, it was the same sort of time at the start of the month when I was getting tasks too.

I've not been paid, but I only did 1hour in Feb and possibly even less than that in March. Not sure if there is a minimum amount before they pay out? I need to log in tomorrow and look properly at the invoices.

rhij86 · 16/04/2020 20:15

PS hope you get paid by A soon, super frustrating :(

AdaShelby · 16/04/2020 20:34

Most new potatoes make a lot less than has been quoted.

Some never get over half of the quoted hourly rate from reading these threads, but it's convenient if there's work on there when you want to work but often it's sloooooooooooooow.

I agree with the PP making more on Appen, that's my biggest earner by a mile.

Flube · 16/04/2020 20:36

@rhij86 Maybe they do have a minimum pay out. I didn't notice anything saying that though....It must say it somewhere.

I think I will try in the morning, if I get chance.

Yes, really hoping I do get paid from A soon. It's ridiculous all this stuff with B* and now this. Angry

girlicorne · 16/04/2020 20:39

@Kaylsar can I ask a question about freelancer please? I signed up last night as I love writing, I write a lot of academic content for my main job (I teach adults) so I was really keen on this. I have bid for 8 projects and had a response from one but they want me to pay them an insurance payment before I complete the work??? Is this standard practice as it looks to me like a massive scam, I don’t pay to work lol!!

Fedupandpoor · 16/04/2020 21:49

Thank you for the advice on the potato. Would faster broadband speed things up or is the problem at their end?

Fedupandpoor · 16/04/2020 21:50

I applied for a few Appen projects months ago but the 60 page guidelines scared me off!

girlicorne · 16/04/2020 21:54

@Fedupandpoor my broadband is super fast, it depends on the number of items in the queue, if there’s less than 100 I don’t bother as it just takes too long and the rate isn’t worth it. I think someone on here said a few months ago they don’t bother if there’s less than 500 in the queue!!
