I know there have been numerous threads on this topic, but I have struggled to understand how to go about getting started. The more I read about it the more overwhelmed I become. Spreadsheets, separate bank accounts , odds, blah blah . It may as well be quantum mechanics!
I need the money for a specific reason so I need to get to grips with it all and get started. I am an intelligent person, I just need to persevere.
I would really appreciate some very basic advice. I know about OddsMonkey and other sites. I have watched the videos and understand the basic concept, but then I am lost. I don't want to make mistakes and lose money.
Help!

All my money is tied up in the exchange at the moment. ☹️ I've got a few on the football tonight that settle, that should give me a fair chunk to throw at the offers this weekend. 🤞

YoloTF · 11/01/2019 13:00

I've just started it today. Brain is frazzled, ready for a sleep now! Think I've done it right. I struggle with the sites on my phones layouts are different to the tutorials layouts. Bet then I'm easily confused.

Coppermine · 11/01/2019 14:07

I think I screwed up one of my trigger bets yesterday. Placed a back bet which lost (as expected) went on to Smarkets and my lay bet is not there!! I don't know what happened, because I remember putting in the stake amount etc. I'm wondering if I only clicked confirm once and not twice.

The trigger bet was £20 and I will get a free £5 bet. So will be about £17 loss in the end. Annoying but I remember that overall I'm still massively in profit so I've not lost any of my 'own' money.

Might need to add an extra check on when I think I've confirmed a bet, and make sure it's showing in open bets.

@Nogoodnickname

When you did the blackjack could the croupier see you?.

Nogoodnickname · 11/01/2019 16:18

Fluffy, no I just done the computerised blackjack and the Oddsmonkey strategy still works on that!

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/01/2019 16:26

Oh good, I was on YouTube and it looked like you could.

POFuserred · 11/01/2019 18:47

Just a warning- I decided not to carry on with matched betting after one day where I thought I had made approx £6 . Anyway after withdrawing my money I went into my card bank details today to check I had the money back to see that they had charged me £3 for every ' gambling transaction '!! This meant I was a further £15 down unfortunately.

coppermine · 11/01/2019 18:57

Which bookie was that POFuserred? I've never heard of that before.

coppermine · 11/01/2019 18:58

Unless you mean the exchanges (betfair/Smarkets) as they charge commission but it's usually a 2-5% and £3 per transaction sounds very high.

ZigZagZombie · 11/01/2019 19:04

The £3 charge is if you use a creditcard - the same way they charge you £3 if you make a cash withdrawal. Once bitten, twice shy and all that!

jjemimapuddleduck · 11/01/2019 19:26

Ollivander84
Right let's see how my explaining is!
So every match for the next five, you have a risk free bet

If Fulham Win, you win at the exchange and lose at Smarkets
If Fulham lose, Smarkets credit your account with £10 and you lose at the exchange
What I did is after the bet finished/credited then I would bet on the next match straight after so I remembered to do it. Or just count up your Fulham bets on Smarkets

Thanks Ollivander. However, for some reason, I still don't understand what happens if Fulham don't lose (sorry!). What happens if Fulham win tomorrow? Do I still get £10 each week if they win each week? Do I have to deposit any more funds? Do I lay each bet on Fulham to win as normal? I guess I'll see tomorrow, but I'm really confused!! Any help from anyone appreciated.

Paddy Power next for me, but I have loads of cash tied up in the exchange just now so I have to wait until later tonight to see the outcome of 3 matches and for funds to sort themselves out. I should be able to report a new total by the end of this evening too.

Good luck @Zofloramummy, that all sounds right to me!

jjemimapuddleduck · 11/01/2019 19:27

Apologies @Ollivander84

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 11/01/2019 20:06

I'm frustrated that I have to wait til my money is back on my card before being able to do any more matched betting. I used a debit card. Is there a quicker way that's still equally safe?

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/01/2019 20:08

You can use Skrill once you’ve done the offer but not for new customer offers. Or Paypal.

Ollivander84 · 11/01/2019 21:19

@jjemimapuddleduck no, if they win, you win the bet so will win the money that way
You need to lay the bet at Betfair still

jjemimapuddleduck · 11/01/2019 21:33

@Ollivander84, thank you. If you are online tomorrow evening, would you mind if I check in with you once we know the outcomes of the afternoon fixtures? Thank you.

Ollivander84 · 11/01/2019 21:47

No not at all! Just shout Smile
If you're using a calculator to lay it then it counts as a risk free bet

dalmatianmad · 11/01/2019 22:10

Have read the whole of this thread twice. Have asked to join the FB group.
Also joined oddsmonkey.
Think I get it but shit scared of taking the plunge!

Habadabadoo · 11/01/2019 23:16

.

jjemimapuddleduck · 12/01/2019 00:40

Thanks @Ollivander84. I used the Guaranteed Profit Calculator @ 80% for the lay bet stake calculation, maybe I should have put 100%? I'm using Team Profit guides.

At the end of day 5, I am at £90 profit now. It should've been £100 but I tried one of the dragonfish bingo sign-up and deposited and wagered £10 but haven't had my bonus funds credited. I understand the theory of how to do this, I just haven't been able to see it through (yet).

I have deposited £520 though (& withdrawn nearly £300 with £220 of my original stake + profits still in play) so it's not for the faint hearted! It makes me feel a bit ill when I think about it. I used some money I was saving to pay off an old overdraft and the rest from my tax return savings. I'll obviously need that cash in a cpl of weeks so am aiming to get to a place soon where I can withdraw all my original stake and keep laying/betting using solely profit leaving me plenty to play with.

Gammeldragz · 12/01/2019 10:51

When I think of the amount of money I turn over in a week, it's quite frightening! I've got nearly £2700 spread over many many bookies and casinos as well as my MB bank account, so many transactions a day plus all the casino turnover. You need to learn to become a bit detached from your 'bankroll' once you've taken your initial investment back.

Done a few sports offers this morning, Ladbrokes money back as a free bet on a certain horse race, coral £5 free bet per goal for betting £10 on a certain match and the sky price boosts. That lot will be over £15 profit and didn't take long.
Rest of the day will be casino stuff. I made £250 yesterday but I'd been down a few days this week so it was sorely needed!

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/01/2019 11:13

Which casino offers do you do?

Otterses · 12/01/2019 17:27

Daftest question ever.

If I back a Draw, what do I lay?

Otterses · 12/01/2019 17:34

Oh my god Blush please ignore me. It's been a long day. Obviously I lay the draw.

Draw will happen/Draw won't happen.

jjemimapuddleduck · 12/01/2019 20:10

Yes that's it @Otterses
