Matched Betting

I know there have been numerous threads on this topic, but I have struggled to understand how to go about getting started. The more I read about it the more overwhelmed I become. Spreadsheets, separate bank accounts , odds, blah blah . It may as well be quantum mechanics!
I need the money for a specific reason so I need to get to grips with it all and get started. I am an intelligent person, I just need to persevere.
I would really appreciate some very basic advice. I know about OddsMonkey and other sites. I have watched the videos and understand the basic concept, but then I am lost. I don't want to make mistakes and lose money.
Help!

Thank you!

I am up £67.50 in 2 days! I am back to work tomorrow so am going to have a couple of days off while awaiting withdrawals and then add funds to my exchange balance so that I can set up loads of matched bets over the weekend and hopefully make a similar amount then.

How is everyone else doing?

EhlanaOfElenia · 08/01/2019 23:01

Hi all, well I've finally got back into it and made my first bet.

I wanted to do the regular bet5 x £10 and get a free £10 bet that a lot of the bookies run. I was fed up with losing loads on the exchanges, so I thought I'd trial a dutch bet. I'll either make £0 profit or -.60 p loss on this qualifying bet. Not bad. If I manage to do a few of these it will make my free bet worth more.

Without all the initial offers I won't be making as much money, but hopefully I can build it up quickly.

Have any of you opened up Skrill accounts?

EhlanaOfElenia · 08/01/2019 23:04

Jemima - you know you can get the odds to display in digital format? It's always in a slightly different place with all the different bookies, but it is often somewhere near your account info.

I think where you went wrong was that the odds were too low. 1.5 odds and/or above is the standard for most of the qualifying bets.

I have a starling account I use Smile

Thanks Ehlana. I'm ok with the digital odds on the betting websites, it was the text in the email - 1/2 (0.5) - that confused me! So I assumed (wrongly) that anything above 0.5 would qualify for a free bet. Nevermind, it all worked out ok in the end!
Good luck getting back into it!

I've just finished my first month and am £400 up despite some missed opportunities!

If anyone needs a qualifying Paddy bet, you can get an extra chance of a freebie with a bet on the big bash cricket - fairly good lay odds with BetFair.

Tiredmummyof3 · 09/01/2019 13:18

Hi, can I join this little group! I've been match betting since last June and have just gone over the £1600 mark. Slower than alot but just doing it at my own pace. Sometimes it feels alot of effort for little money but it all adds up!
I read on here this morning about the casino offers so staked £10 on moplay and ended up with £75! Turns out I didn't actually qualify for the free spins I thought I did but did ok anyway! Lesson being make sure you read the t&C's before you stake!
Looking forward to reading more tips!

jjemimapuddleduck · 10/01/2019 11:41

Hello,

I'm on day 4 now, profits still at £67.50 but I have a few matched bets lined up for the weekend, however I'm having a little wobble.

I can see the numbers rising but I do think it's quite scary at the beginning when you just seem to be depositing money left, right and centre and my exchange balance is low because a lot of my available funds are tied up. I know its because I'm keen to make a certain amount per day/week so have been rocketing through the offers so have needed more than the promised £100 to start so I'm feeling poor and grumpy. I understand the theory and know it'll all work out ok but it's quite frightening & I feel pretty skint! I think I'm tired too as I have read and reread a couple of newer offers on teamprofit and I just don't understand them (smarkets & paddy power). I know they will click, but I am a bit stuck just now. I know I'm impatient (& its only day 4) but I want to get to the stage when I have a sizeable balance in the Exchange and can start actually withdrawing profits! I also think all the reading and thinking is making my brain hurt!

Ollivander84 · 10/01/2019 11:44

@jjemimapuddleduck I've done the Smarkets offer if I can help? It's a fairly straightforward one Smile

jjemimapuddleduck · 10/01/2019 11:55

Yes, I think I'm being dim! Thanks @ Ollivander84!

Smarkets Risk free £50 offer:-
www.teamprofit.com/welcome-offers/smarkets
I've signed up for the risk free £50 (5 x £10) on your chosen PL team. Mine is Fulham (I'm in Scotland so feck all idea but they looked like they weren't doing so well). I have deposited £10 and placed a back bet of £10 on Fulham to win (v. Burnley) this Saturday at 3.3. I then layed the bet £7.46 at Betfair Exchange using the Guaranteed Profit Calculator thing at 3.4, liability £17.90. That I'm all pretty comfortable with. Do I need to now remember to back and lay at Fulham PL match each week for 5w? What if Fulham win this Saturday, how do I make £50? Do they need to lose every week for me to make anything?

Ollivander84 · 10/01/2019 12:07

Right let's see how my explaining is!
So every match for the next five, you have a risk free bet
If Fulham Win, you win at the exchange and lose at Smarkets
If Fulham lose, Smarkets credit your account with £10 and you lose at the exchange

What I did is after the bet finished/credited then I would bet on the next match straight after so I remembered to do it. Or just count up your Fulham bets on Smarkets

BonnesVacances · 10/01/2019 12:20

I know how you feel Jemima. I started MB exactly a week ago and am £245 in profit. But feel sick every time I deposit another £10/£20 in a bookies. I've been keeping a tally and have paid out in total £940 so far!!! I have paid back into the account £580 so there's still around £400 + my profit floating around the exchanges and bookies.

I wouldn't say I'm enjoying it much but I do like logging the bets on the Oddsmonkey profit tracker and watching the amount go up. And then updating them the minute the bet settles. That's the best bit.

EhlanaOfElenia · 10/01/2019 12:39

I had already done all the initial offers with the major bookmakers, and there are no good reload offers for them at the moment, so I'm looking at the weekly offers. I don't have lots of money to put into it - I had left the money that I had made with all of the bookies and exchanges deliberately so that I could just pick it up again without touching my 'real' money. I think I'm going to have to pull some money out of them.

I managed to do a Dutch bet last night on a horserace which made me some money - just. Almost monumentally mucked it up. The odds move so quickly on the exchanges a few minutes before the race. (My exchange lay bets were only matched as the horses were being walked to the starting gate!!!) But I managed to make £2.06 on a bet with one of the 'good' bookmakers which looks like a normal mug bet. Not using any offer at all! So if I can do this with a few of my mug bets hopefully I will be less likely to be gubbed, while still making some money from them.

When I was looking at the Dutch Betting last night, it seemed the great odds 106% or 104% were through quite small bookmakers that either don't have start up offers, or really difficult ones (betting £1000 to get a free £50 bet??!!). Tying funds up with them at these early stages, just to make a tiny amount of money on a dutch bet doesn't seem worth it. Going through Skrill and moving the money faster, also doesn't seem worth it for these small amounts.

Zofloramummy · 10/01/2019 17:14

I’ve been thinking of giving it a go but £940 of your own goingnin makes me nervous bonnes

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 10/01/2019 17:22

I'm getting back to matched betting after a few years break. Made my first bet and hoping for a £9 profit at the end of it. From the last time I do remember that sometimes withdrawing the winnings can be a huge hassle. Same as reading all the t&c's to make sure I've done everything correctly. I nearly made a rookie mistake as I put same stake on the lay and back bets!!! Thankfully I managed to correct my mistake.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/01/2019 17:34

If you register via coupon arbitrage for Skrill you get cashback on all transactions. You could put £10 into Skrill, deposit after you’ve won at the bookie then withdraw via Skrill.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/01/2019 17:36

Is this any help Zoflora? Freebets4all have an oddsmatcher, albeit a basic one.

EhlanaOfElenia · 10/01/2019 17:41

Zoflo - you only need to put lots of money in if you don't want to wait for the money you have made to reach your bank account.

I think I started with about £200 and have taken that much out, and left the rest with various bookmakers and exchanges.

Set a limit for your first 'investment' and just slowly grow it.

Coppermine · 10/01/2019 17:55

Is Skrill quicker than PayPal? I'm so impatient

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/01/2019 18:53

I don’t know you’d have to try it. You’d get commission on the transactions from coupon arbitrage which would help. I only did a few offers in December but put £900 through Smarkets.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/01/2019 20:53

I won £5 from a free spin, biggest casino win yet, but I’ve asked them if I need to deposit to meet their minimum amount to take out.

The bingo offers look great, they show you how on YouTube. Apparently you have to do one, take the money, then do the next one so they can’t withhold the balance.

Zofloramummy · 10/01/2019 23:28

Ok I’ve registered with freebets4all and got my first bet sent to me. It’s a £10 with William Hill which is likely to lose me 34p but obviously then I qualify for £30 of free bets. They then email you the next bets to do. Seems simple enough at the moment. Will let you know how I get on Confused
