I know there have been numerous threads on this topic, but I have struggled to understand how to go about getting started. The more I read about it the more overwhelmed I become. Spreadsheets, separate bank accounts , odds, blah blah . It may as well be quantum mechanics!
I need the money for a specific reason so I need to get to grips with it all and get started. I am an intelligent person, I just need to persevere.
I would really appreciate some very basic advice. I know about OddsMonkey and other sites. I have watched the videos and understand the basic concept, but then I am lost. I don't want to make mistakes and lose money.
Help!

I did a Dutch on a match next week and it’s all gone horribly long. Upshot is I’ll lose £4 next Monday regardless and might get gubbed at two big bookies.

Fab start to the week.

floppyflappy · 26/02/2019 20:25

thanks for answering Chakira Smile

thefavourite · 27/02/2019 11:28

@floppyflappy, a PB will have a profit if the lay is lower than the back. Sky price boosts are fab! As are Sky crowd generated odds ACCAs.

@Fluffycloudland77, oh no! Can you cash out! I don't understand dutching, please can you explain?

I have loads going on again this week, another 50 or so bets on over the full week I reckon. Some weekly bet club trigger bets and lots of trigger and free bets. Is everyone taking advantage of the Betfair Exchange back bet offers? There were 2 last week, each for a £5 free bet on an ACCA on the Sportsbook, so £10 in total, profit on the £10 ACCA around £7.20. There's another 2 trigger bets this week, 1 on the Chelsea v. Tottenham match tonight and 1 on the darts tomorrow again netting a £10 (2 x £5) free bets on an ACCA on the Sportsbook.

I've used the Odds Monkey WH Golden Goal calculator for the first time to stop me making another WHGG loss! So I've backed Tottenham at WH, layed Tottenham on the Next Goal market at Betfair Exchange so, depending on outcome, I'll either make +£4.99/+£70.00/+£4.99/+£5.00. Fingers crossed!

ChakiraChakra · 27/02/2019 12:00

@thefavourite it's amazing how the bets add up isn't it! I thought I was still on page 1 on my OM tracker but I've actually got 8 pages of bets on there 😂

I really should read a guide for the 2 up offers. I backed and layed one last night, and cashed in the lay when they went 2 up and made....52p profit Hmm

Did one betfair acca, (my first one! Thank goodness for smarkets making it easy to lay). Didn't realise there were more, ta for the heads up. Made £3.48 on my first £5 one after QL. Depending on the QL I'm tempted to let one or two roll without laying.

thefavourite · 27/02/2019 12:38

Yes, do both @ChakiraChakra! Then you get a £10 (2 x £5) you can use together on an ACCA on Sportsbook.

I've just added up this week's expected profit, which I think will be around £150. I am smashing my weekly target consistently!

ChakiraChakra · 27/02/2019 13:25

£150 a week is amazing! I think I'm not far off having just looked at my numbers, on around £125 a week. Trying to smash the next couple of days as I'll need to withdraw it all very soon 😁

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 27/02/2019 13:52

You're all doing so well
I'm still toying with the start ups. I don't seem to get any offers sent to me and I don't really understand the 2ups and accas yet. Maybe never Confused

thefavourite · 27/02/2019 14:10

I'm still working my way through the start-up too @Menarefrommarsitwouldseem! I've got loads still to do and am still only 7w in. However I've been kept busy with offers over the last few weeks and have only completed 1 sign-up offer (I think) in the last 3w. And I don't get many offers emailed to me either. I use the OM daily calendar & forum and the team profit blog mainly, all the £10s to get a £5/£10 free bet really add up! I got a great offer this week to download Paddy Power app and place a qualifying bet of £20, I'll get a £20 free bet. I'm also now consistenly doing some of the weekly bet clubs and price boosts netting a regular £30 or so p/w. It has helped that my bankroll is now larger (mostly profit) so I can take advantage of offers when they come in (although my liability is now rinsed until tomorrow!).

What about doing the Sky Price Boosts tonight? 2 of these (at least) are on Smarkets and with £10 on each of them, it's £3.36 profit (at the odds I layed). Or the William Hill Golden Goal is tonight - this can either be backed/layed with a small qualifying loss but potential big gain or as a guaranteed profit by laying on the Next Goal market on Betfair Exchange (guide on forum thread in Smarkets).

ChakiraChakra · 27/02/2019 14:13

I've signed up to relatively few bookies, menare (7). The reloads keep me fairly busy 😄

Fairyliz · 27/02/2019 14:17

thefavourite I have done the basic WHGG by backing Chelsea and laying Tottenham, but can you explain the next goal market in Betfair? I can't seem to see it . I assume you bet on team 1 to win with WH then bet on team 2 to get first goal?

Thanks its useful if someone who has just done it can explain.

thefavourite · 27/02/2019 14:25

Do you have OM @Fairyliz? There's a spreadsheet on the current WHGG thread in the Latest Offers part of the forum. It explains it much better than I can (also I need to leave the house now and go to my actual job!) ! It's the same team you lay and also its a different calculation. However you'll have already layed this bet at Smarkets for tonight's GG game? Also this is my first time not taking the QL so I may well have done it all wrong!!

thefavourite · 27/02/2019 14:28

@Fairyliz, I have done the basic WHGG by backing Chelsea and laying Tottenham

I am worried by this! You should back and lay the same team, even for a GG, no?? I'm confusing myself!!

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/02/2019 14:56

I have stalled. Which bookies are you using?.

thefavourite · 27/02/2019 15:15

Me?

Betfred
William Hill
betway
Paddy
Betfair (both)
Sky
Moplay

...this week. Also free games/spins/box bonanza at Monopoly Casino and Jackpot Joy.

As well as weekly bet club trigger and free bets, for tonight's matches I've done the aforementioned Betfair Exchange trigger bet, the WHGG and will do the 3 x £10 Betfred inplay bets during HT tonight for a £10 free bet for the weekend. I did the Unibet £40 refund offer last week, ehich netted about £35 profit.

Does that help? Where are you at eith everything Fluffy?

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/02/2019 15:39

Well I’ve done most of the easy sign ups but not accas. They scare me for some reason.

When you get a free bet off an Acca offer is it for another Acca?.

Transitioning seems harder and I’m scared of getting gubbed,

ChakiraChakra · 27/02/2019 16:16

We are all going to get gubbed sooner or later, that's no reason to avoid making profit while you still have the accounts 😁 I got gubbed early on by WH, it's just one of those things to shrug and move on from.

thefavourite · 27/02/2019 16:27

The Betfair offer for tonight's football and tomorrow's darts is - for each event (2 offers) - place a £10 BACK single bet on the Exchange (blue box). This is a normal BACK bet but using the blue box on the Exchange. Also remember the 5% back odds commission on the calculator. When settled, each of these 2 offers will give a £5 free bet to use on an ACCA.

This offer is currently available on Ch/Spurs match tonight and for PL darts - a specific match - tomorrow (look for offers on Betfair promos page). Your 2 x £5 free bets will be credited after settlement and these are to be used on the Sportsbook (not Exchange) and on an ACCA. Last weej, I used the 2 x £5 together to give me a £10 free bet for an ACCA.

An ACCA is just a treble (or more bet). When you add the 3 x options to your betslip, it gives you the option to pay as 3 x single bets or as a treble. You bet in the treble/multiple box. So what I do is go to Smarkets, type ACCA in the search box to see the lay odds for an ACCA. Then manually add the chosen ACCA to my Betfair Sportsbook betting slip. If the odds are too low or aren't a close match then I try another Smarkets ACCA until I find an ACCA with a good profit. Back as above and lay ACCA on Smarkets. Your treble odds might be 7.8 and lay 8.4 (for example) so you can work out profit rom that using the Free SNR option on the usual calculator.

You can also use a spreadsheet on OM for sequential lays but this is faffy and complicated and not risk free as the odds can swing. So I'd use the Smarkets ACCA market.

I'm scared of getting gubbed too so I try to place the odd mug bet here and there when I'm on the Odds Matcher and see a really close match for a bookie I use regularly.

Golden0ldie · 27/02/2019 16:42

thefavourite, with the first Betfair Back bet, do you then lay it at Smarkets?

I have a list of matches for tonight but am struggling to find close enough odds to minimise ql.

Februray has been dead for me. I think my profit will be less than £150 for the entire month.

thefavourite · 27/02/2019 17:13

Yes that's right GO. So for the darts match, I've backed Peter Wright at Betfair Exchange £10 @ 2.4 then layed £9.25 at Smarkets (liability £14.06). Taking into account Betfair 5% back odds commission, this gives me a qualifying loss of £0.76. Not amazing, but ACCA will hopefully make around £4 so around £3.25 profit from offer (x 2 offers).

Do you have Odds Monkey oddsmatcher. If you do, then keep checking, it's amazing how much it can fluctuate and a close match can just appear!

miltonroad · 27/02/2019 18:00

Close matches aren’t mug bets- they’ll get you gubbed quicker than no mug betting as you aren’t giving the bookies any value. However, Who knows what gets you gubbed 😂 better taking further apart matches or not mug betting imho

Fairyliz · 27/02/2019 19:12

thefavourite haha yes I did back and lay Chelsea.

miltonroad if you find a close match and back at the bookies and lay at the exchange how will the bookies know you have a lay bet? Are they all connected? I thought that when you placed a lay bet at one of the exchanges you were actually taking money off other gamblers?

thefavourite · 27/02/2019 19:22

@Fairyliz, good, I was worried! Did you find the calculator for guaranteed profit for GG I was going on about?!

liitlepenguin · 27/02/2019 19:29

Ah been trying to find this thread !!!

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/02/2019 19:38

I don’t know why I’m being so wet about all this 🤔 I’m not usually a wuss.

I did the expext risk free bet, but massively underlayed by accident. If the back bet wins I get £4.75, 0,76p if the exchange wins 🤦🏻‍♀️

I will do an Acca tm, go back to this start so to speak.

miltonroad · 27/02/2019 19:44

The bookies know what the lay odds are at the exchange and they don’t like punters taking close matches, arbs will get you gubbed even more quickly. Real punters would mug accas or in play and not jump on close matches
