I know there have been numerous threads on this topic, but I have struggled to understand how to go about getting started. The more I read about it the more overwhelmed I become. Spreadsheets, separate bank accounts , odds, blah blah . It may as well be quantum mechanics!
I need the money for a specific reason so I need to get to grips with it all and get started. I am an intelligent person, I just need to persevere.
I would really appreciate some very basic advice. I know about OddsMonkey and other sites. I have watched the videos and understand the basic concept, but then I am lost. I don't want to make mistakes and lose money.
Help!

Ooh yes, same IP address! 😂 it’s a good job you spotted that.

Nestlyn · 07/02/2019 16:05

Thank you for the congratulations but honestly I feel out of my depth, I've messed up a couple of times, but luckily still in profit. My trigger bet with Betfred has just ended and I'm waiting for my free bets now. I've had to contact a couple of bookies for not triggering their offer when I've wagered. I'm glued to my phone atm.

jjemimapuddleduck · 07/02/2019 19:50

I'm beavering away here. I've put a wee £5 on the darts tonight as Bet Victor had a free refund up to £5 if your person loses. So I chose the closest match I could find with the highest odds (most likely to lose) and stand to lose £0.20 either way. Hopefully my guy will lose and I'll have a free £5 to use netting me around £3.50 after TB £0.20 loss. If not, I've lost £0.20. I know I could have used the risk free profit calculator but when I did that, I was only getting £1.31 back either way inc. FB winnings so I decided to take a small risk on losing £0.20.

Re. MECCA BOB refund, after losing on Tues eve, I put in the BOB12 code and got my £10 back. I also had another £1.71 appear randomly in my account as cash. MECCA then let me WITHDRAW the £11.71 so I am £1.71 up instead of £10 down, yahoo!

I will hold tight until Sunday morning GO, then reevaluate, thanks for the advice!

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/02/2019 19:50

I feel out of my depth too.

WRT oddsmonkey, I like the looks of the guides on making the most out of trigger offers like free bet if your horse comes second to the sp favourite and the extra place matcher.

Coppermine · 07/02/2019 20:37

jjemimapuddleduck are you not doing Mecca BOB every day? I've won 3 times so far and £55 in profit from it in 3 days. Didn't win tonight though. Booo.

jjemimapuddleduck · 07/02/2019 21:24

@Coppermine, oh is that the way to do it? Yes maybe that would be been better! I have been really burnt on bingo though and absolutely hate it so quite happy to be £1.71 up!

Netted £3.40 on darts offer.

Coppermine · 07/02/2019 22:05

Yes it's only running until 25th Feb so best to get on it every night to get the maximum out of it. I've won 3 out of 4 times. They limit the ticket purchasing so everyone has equal odds, so chances of winning much higher than other rooms.

I won bugger all in the normal bingo rooms with my £30 bonus 😫

SmugglingSeaweed · 08/02/2019 12:13

So I have made my first costly mistake but I don’t underatand why. Can anyone help?

I had a FB which I placed on the LA Kings v Philly Flyers ice hockey game last night. I backed LA Kings to win. The wording on the betslip is ‘win match normal time’.

I layed against the LA Kings at Betfair. The wording on the betslip is ‘LA Kings - Moneyline’. I understood moneyline to mean exactly the same as match odds - i.e the outcome at the end of the game in normal time (so not including any overtime). Have I misunderstood that?

The match was a draw at the end of normal time, so my FB lost (I understand this), but my lay bet should have won because I bet that LA Kings wouldn’t win, and they didn’t.

The game did go to a shootout and the Kings eventually won - however in my mind this should be irrelevant as the bet terms were at normal match time.

Have I confused myself?

Thank you Wink

ChakiraChakra · 08/02/2019 12:21

@Coppermine I've just read up about BOB. Do I need to put the code in when I deposit, or after I've spent it...?

And where can I find mecca cash back?

ChakiraChakra · 08/02/2019 12:25

@SmugglingSeaweed I don't really understand moneyline either, but when I've done it the bookie bet website as well as the exchange lay says moneyline. It has its own separate market away from the win, draw, first goalscorer etc markets so. Sadly I guess you did lay a different market to the one you backed and unfortunately lost both.

We can probably Google it!

Coppermine · 08/02/2019 12:32

@ChakiraChakra if you didn't win on BOB then you put the code in the next day, I don't think it works straightaway. I think today may be BOB13. Not tried it yet.

Fingers crossed the 2.50 room opens tonight!

ChakiraChakra · 08/02/2019 12:32

I'm back from googling. It's not as easy as it could be to understand! Moneyline bets do appear to include extra time.

Coppermine · 08/02/2019 12:34

Just tried it and it's BOB14. You need to go to bonus section of account.

ChakiraChakra · 08/02/2019 12:36

Thanks. Haven't even joined mecca yet, just getting ducks in some sort of a row :) but they keep waddling off

ArtisanPopcorn · 08/02/2019 12:39

Can I ask a (probably stupid) question as a newbie please?

Why does Betfair say £54.44 at the top of the screen but when I look at my balance it's £149?

Also coral says my deposits are £10 but I've only deposited the initial £5 and done the £20 free bets.

I'm so confused.

ChakiraChakra · 08/02/2019 12:46

Hi @ArtisanPopcorn now I want popcorn and welcome!

Betfair sometimes needs a refresh, and/or the difference may be because your balance (money in your account right now) may be different to the amount you have available to commit to new bets. If you have made lay bets that haven't resolved yet, you might have e.g. £100 in your account but if you have promised to pay £20 if your lay bet loses, you only actually have £80 available to promise to other bets. That make sense?

Coral - is it winnings or an outstanding free bet? Is the offer you think you've done the same as what you've actually done? Sometimes the guides on team profit are out of date and the offer is slightly different.

SmugglingSeaweed · 08/02/2019 12:51

Thanks Chakira. I did google moneyline when I started MB but came away with the impression that it meant the result at normal match time. I’m obviously wrong but sometimes you just need a layman’s terms explanation Blush

I will re-educate myself before anymore moneyline bets.

I’ve bet/layed loads on ice hockey moneyline and it’s been very successful so far until this slip-up. I must have just been very lucky.

Just when I thought I was getting my head around MB...

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/02/2019 12:58

Topcashback do Mecca cash back

ArtisanPopcorn · 08/02/2019 13:07

Thanks @chakirachakra I do have an outstanding bet on Betfair so that must be it! For my first bet on coral I somehow managed to choose a match that isn't on until the 17th! Aargh! So much to keep on top of and I'm only registered with coral, Betfair and Betfred so far. Been using profit accumulator.

Any tips on keeping organised? For someone who works almost full time and has a young child!

GardeningWithDynamite · 08/02/2019 13:15

Tell me about this mecca bingo BOB thing? I haven't done any introductory offers for mecca yet - can you combine the 2? It looks like you can deposit 10, get 30 free (and it's on topcashback too). Do you deposit £10 and then just play BOB games? I've had a look at the site and all the BOB games coming up in the next hour say 5p tickets and £4.50 jackpot.

SmugglingSeaweed · 08/02/2019 13:19

@ArtisanPopcorn I find the spreadsheet from Team Profit helpful for keeping track. I’ve added in my own tab where I keep notes of which TBs I’ve done and which FBs I’m waiting for, crossing them out once completed. I also do my own very simple tally of where all the money is, as the main spreadsheet has all the information spread out in different accounts so not visually easy to see all at once.

I also work full time with a young child so spend some time in the evening filling in the spreadsheet after placing each bet.

ChakiraChakra · 08/02/2019 13:26

Definitely get a spreadsheet, popcorn. Either download team profit's or make one for yourself that works for you like I had to because TP's didn't make sense to me.

I have one sheet for a running total of where all my money is;
One for which matched bets I've done (incl profit & loss, if there are any next actions eg use free bet tomorrow);
One for casino free spins etc.
If you were to join odds monkey they have a tracker but it's not as comprehensive as mine Halo

jjemimapuddleduck · 08/02/2019 13:30

A note that WH Golden Goal isnt on this weekend, the next one is on Tuesday 12th - Man Utd vs Paris SG.

@GardeningWithDynamite, that's exactly what I did. Deposited £10 & played on BOB. Then wagered other £30 bonus elsewhere on the site. I was able to put in the code and credit my account with another £10 the following day which I could then withdraw & did (but have since learnt I should have kept it in and kept playing and reloading it if I didn't win and basically it's a free £10 to play BOB with each day). They seem to have bigger BOB jackpots available on a Thursday & Friday (anyone know what time tonight?).

NotDavidTennant · 08/02/2019 14:04

@SmugglingSeaweed Moneyline is the equivalent to the UK bookies 'draw no bet' markets. If it ends in a draw then the bet is void. So at Betfair your bet should have been voided and your lay stake should have been refunded, but you have sadly wasted the free bet now.

GardeningWithDynamite · 08/02/2019 14:11

Thank you jjemimapuddleduck

I might have a look at that tonight
