I know there have been numerous threads on this topic, but I have struggled to understand how to go about getting started. The more I read about it the more overwhelmed I become. Spreadsheets, separate bank accounts , odds, blah blah . It may as well be quantum mechanics!
I need the money for a specific reason so I need to get to grips with it all and get started. I am an intelligent person, I just need to persevere.
I would really appreciate some very basic advice. I know about OddsMonkey and other sites. I have watched the videos and understand the basic concept, but then I am lost. I don't want to make mistakes and lose money.
Help!

I've seen a lot of mention of odds monkey bells and whistles, can I ask to share what you're finding most useful from there, apart from the odds matcher and profit tracker? Those are the only two I've used so far, I've not even looked at the forum or other tools!

It was on quidco, not sure if it still is. I've had it two weeks and made £17 out of it. There's a definite strategy to it, wagering on blackjack, chew through your minimum £10 wager on day 1 then £5 the next day (assuming you still have winnings in your account, if you play to blackjack advice you hopefully should have, I've kept my balance around £10 and it's worth keeping money in your heart account), you unlock a box game in 7 days time (1 in 3 chance to win £10). They have daily free games while you have a balance too.

So my clever VBet £25 FB find has come back to bit me on the bum! It was £25 back at VBet 9.86/10.5 lay at Smarkets netting a potential brilliant return of £20.67. The match is this Sunday. It's only partially matched £0.08 of the lay stake so currently I have £21.xx unmatched.

I have read the unmatched/partially matched guides and know I should cancel the lay bet and relay at the new odds. But the new lay odds have jumped to 32!! Only netting £6.xx profit if I relay at these odds. It is only available to lay at Smarkets as it's a Scottish cup game and these don't seem to exist on Betfair or Betdaq (gggrrrrrr...).

Do I...

• hold out and hope the odds will swing and it will match before the game (this has worked for me in the past)
• cancel and relay for about £3 profit (once TB loss is taken into account)
• cancel the whole lay bet, don't lay and hope the team win and if not, write it off as it was a FB (£3.54 TB loss)
• panic?

What do you think??

jjemima, sit tight. I’ve been watching football odds as match time approaches and if you hold your nerve, the odds may well shorten. That said, that strategy didn’t work for me with my vbet acca but they only moved a teeny bit ... enough to lose me £16. Last night’s free bet, I waited. Had an ok match at 10.3/11.5 but laid at 10.5 soon after the game started. I didn’t have the guts to hold out incase someone scored and then tortured myself watching the odds keep dropping.

I had planned some new account offers today but all Englisg racing is cancelled due to equine flu. Actually that’s a real worry with Cheltenham so close. I hope they can contain it. The horses were vaccinated so am sure trainers aren’t happy.

I've just cocked up backing and laying and lucky bitch that I am for away with it! 😳 NO idea what happened, I had free £10 bets, placed one on a horse winners market, layed it using the calculator on OM (not odds matcher, and the first time I've used the calculator) and realised that somehow of the horse lost I'd somehow stand to lose £6! 😯 I panicked a bit, and it was an odd race in that there were two horses in contention and the others had wildly high odds, so I decided to back and lay the same horse and pray that he either won or came top three then I'd be in profit, although I was all very muddled! Anyway he won and I have made £23 profit goes to lie in a dark corner
