I know there have been numerous threads on this topic, but I have struggled to understand how to go about getting started. The more I read about it the more overwhelmed I become. Spreadsheets, separate bank accounts , odds, blah blah . It may as well be quantum mechanics!
I need the money for a specific reason so I need to get to grips with it all and get started. I am an intelligent person, I just need to persevere.
I would really appreciate some very basic advice. I know about OddsMonkey and other sites. I have watched the videos and understand the basic concept, but then I am lost. I don't want to make mistakes and lose money.
Help!

Messed up and did £10 bet instead of £20 at a bookies, didn't qualify for free bet
Flirted heavily with the online chat guy and got my £20 free bet Blush

The end justifies the means.

Hello!

I will report my profits by the end of day 14 this evening, but I am having a good weekend and I have another 5 bets lined up for today (some TB and some FB). I'm going to try 2 of the weekly bet clubs next week and try to get into a habit of doing those.

I've been doing some reading about the Cheltenham festival. I can't take any time off work then but do hope to have a good Exchange balance by then so that I can take advantage of some of the offers!

I think I need to sign up to OM or PA soon but £18 p/m sounds such a lot of money. Hmmmm.

ChakiraChakra · 20/01/2019 10:15

I don't know how you flirt heavily with an online chat guy (do tell us!!) But I'm seriously impressed!

ChakiraChakra · 20/01/2019 10:27

Jemima I started last night and my friends who has been doing it a few years said she wishes she'd just started with OM paid in the first place, so I've bitten the bullet and called it an investment, I'll see how my first month goes. I think you get a full trial of OM for 7 days for £1 if you follow a link from team profit. I messed up and signed up for the free trial on OM directly which is only the two bookies. Upgraded straight away, as I needed to match specifically Smarkets with betfair - Certainly it's been very easy. Well I think so, I'll wait and see my results come in today! I should have a total £1 qualifying loss from two matches happening today both laid according to OM's tool. 61p of that should unlock Smarkets free £10 welcome offer, except I'm not sure how to use that just yet, and 39p of it is on the chance that the team I backed on betfair loses; in which case i get my stake returned. Need to work out betfair's bet 5 x 10 get 20 offer, and will do my first bookmaker sign up deal today too. 😁

Ollivander84 · 20/01/2019 10:47

@ChakiraChakra I was "oh no, I can't believe I did that" :( about the messing up of the FB
Then I said I was having a beer while watching the football, I hope his shift went quick and I offered him a virtual beer and said thanks for the help anyway. Then he credited me the free bets Grin

ChakiraChakra · 20/01/2019 10:53

@Ollivander84 you hussy you 😁

jjemimapuddleduck · 20/01/2019 12:01

@Ollivander84, how are you doing profits wise? Just rereading the thread, how did Bet365 go and how much did you need in the Exchange? I might do this at the beginning of February when I can afford to have some cash tied up for a couple of weeks.

Ollivander84 · 20/01/2019 12:18

I split the bet365 so did 2 x 40 and 1 x 20
Profits is a bit of a sore point as I have to replace my carpet that someone destroyed by putting a firework in my window, and I hate spreadsheets Blush
Going to try a new way of tracking next month but I'm definitely up!

Ineedtonamechangenow · 20/01/2019 14:07

I think I've just accurately placed my first qualifying bet. I hope so anyway!

Bordeaux v Dijon.

Coral is stake £5 and returns £8.33
Betfair is liability £3.70, profit £5

Does that sound ok?

Ineedtonamechangenow · 20/01/2019 14:09

Sorry and a question. Do I just leave any potential winnings with coral or cash them out?

jjemimapuddleduck · 20/01/2019 14:41

What are the back and lay odds @Ineedtonamechangenow and what Exchange are you using?

jjemimapuddleduck · 20/01/2019 14:41

What was your lay stake?

Ineedtonamechangenow · 20/01/2019 15:23

Betfair lay odds 1.74
Coral back odds 1.67
Liability at exchange is £3.70

Coppermine · 20/01/2019 16:12

@jjemimapuddleduck I think oddsmonkey is worth the investment (not tried PA). I actually get zero commission with Smarkets for integrating it with OM. So it pays for itself at the moment I'm sure.

Easy to find close back and lay odds with their oddsmatcher. Then I just have to click 'lay bet in Smarkets' and it does it for me. Don't even need to open smarkets. Keeps the balance up to date. It does it with betfair too but my free commission ran out on that.

I love the profit tracker too, no spreadsheets! When you find your bet, after you click lay bet you can also click 'log bet' and it adds all the details to the profit tracker. You just have to go back when the bet is settled to confirm the outcome.

If anyone wants to use my oddsmonkey referral then please do.

Hi,

I've been doing this for a couple of weeks now and am approx £100 in profit. To speed things up I've been adding more and more cash to it so am now waiting for today's bets to pay out before ensuring I extract my original stakes. I reckon I've put in nearly £500 and have withdrawal requests for half of that being processed right now. I'd already withdrawn some but re-bet it so this time I am going to leave myself only my profit to play with so that I don't have this constant fear of fucking up and losing all my ££ hanging over me!

I've made a couple of stupid errors so wish I'd read the Team Profits page on unmatched bets first! Highly recommend doing so as it's so scary when the lay bet comes up as unmatched or partially matched. I panicked and cashed out the first time! I've had one reload offer but that's about it.

WhatNow40 · 20/01/2019 22:22

I was slow to get bets placed this weekend so tried to make up for it this evening and did some in-play. Holy shit it was scary. The first one worked out ok and I made £7ish from a £10 free bet.

So I became more confident and used a £20 free bet on the Lyon game. I got odds of 7 for Lyon to win and Betfair had 7.8 at the exchange to lay the bet. I put through the £20 bookies bet just fine. Then did Betfair but the odds changed really quickly down to 3.8. I thought I'd just leave it and not bother with the exchange. If they win, brilliant. If they lose, at least it was a free bet. They only bloody won! £120!! It feels too much like real gambling though... I'm glad it payed off this time, I'm going to steer clear of in-play again. Lesson learned!!

Gammeldragz · 20/01/2019 22:23

@Ineedtonamechangenow if it's a qualifying bet you won't profit, you'll make a loss. Do you mean that was on a free bet?

Leave the money in Coral if you plan on doing more there, otherwise take it out and put it to work elsewhere. I was forever moving money at the start, now I've got about £2.5k across the many bookies and casinos and rarely top up the bookies. I often have to deposit at Casinos for some of the offers so I withdraw on those.

Hit £7k profit today, after starting in August, so just under 6 months and I had a month off in that time.

Gammeldragz · 20/01/2019 22:24

@WhatNow40 yeah in play is stressful, half time is the only time I'm happy to do it as the odds don't jump about as much because no one is scoring!

jjemimapuddleduck · 21/01/2019 00:30

@Gammeldragz, I think it's @@Ineedtonamechangenow's initial trigger bet to get her Coral free bet so a small qualifying loss will be ok.

Yes, I really don't like inplay! I've done a couple of inplay reload offers and they are really frightening! I find myself waiting for the odds to go back in my favour and they ineviatably keep jumping in the wrong direction so the potential profit/low qualifying loss is in trouble!

Thanks for the OM info! I think I do need it, I've just been holding out as I'm tight and want to keep all my profits!!

I do need OM as I've fucked up a bit tonight on the PP weekly bet club offer. Since midnight, I've bet my 5 x £10 for a free £10 bet to credit next Monday on what I thought were close odds. However, my QL total is over £4 and the FB will only make around £7 so I'm only going to be £3 in profit rather than the expected £5.50, all down to my qualifying losses. I thought they were ok, but 5 qualifying losses of 50p-£1 sure adds up.

However, end of day 14 and I'm £201.97 up on where I was 14 days ago. I don't feel very rich yet as all the money is tied up and I'm not yet purely playing with profits, but I'll get there.

MaraScottie · 21/01/2019 00:42

If you sign up with OM, how much time do you need to invest to make the most of it? I'm working full time, so only really have an hour a day and a couple over the weekend.

I'm following Team Profit the past week, it's great but slow going.

Coppermine · 21/01/2019 13:48

Got my first gubbing 😫 it was Bwin, I only opened the account on Saturday and did the first bet. My back odds were 5.25 so maybe too high for first bet.

I've read though that a lot of women get gubbed early on with Bwin. So if you've not signed up yet and you're female, it might be worth considering going for lower odds than normal. It's the only two things I can think of that flagged up with them.

Ineedtonamechangenow · 21/01/2019 15:06

@Coppermine I'll use your odds monkey link if I decide to sign up. I'll see how this week goes.

I'm waiting on tonight one free bet and one qualifying bet and Thursday another qualifying bet. It looks like everything seems to be working!

I've put quite a lot of money into the exchange and bookies so might have to slow down for now

Zofloramummy · 21/01/2019 18:05

I got my gala bingo Quidco tracking notification today. It took ages! A bit 😮 that it won’t pay out until June though!

Zofloramummy · 21/01/2019 18:05

Still it’s £50 for not doing a lot
