lazycoo In the past, I have talked to senior tax officials in the UK about 'Amway' and 'MLM.' They too found it both amusing and alarming, because they know that virtually no one has ever paid income tax on net-profits deriving from a so-called 'MLM business.'

Off the record, one retired UK tax compliance officer made an isightful observation.

He pointed out that the majority of 'Amway MLMers' were like unpaid missionaries for an 'Evangelic Commercial Religion' who were taking up a collection to give to Priests who were then passing on the majority of the collection to millionaire Bishops and Cardinals who then passed it on to billionaire Popes in another land.

What this UK tax official came very close to working out, is that the faithful 'MLM' missionaries hand over their cash, and recruit others to do the same, in the false belief that this is a 'proven plan' which (if exactly duplicated), will permit anyone to achieve a form of Paradise on Earth.

New flbot for me - takes me up to 3. Got a "business" planning meeting. From 3 different friendship groups as well.

lazycoo · 10/07/2015 14:49

Urgh. I'm as materialistic as the next sucker but the appetite for stuff that they whip up among these vulnerable people is really something. I mean, it's not like they're saying 'here's a wee job on the side, if you stick in at it you might earn the equivalent of minimum wage for your troubles but many don't, so don't get your hopes up much'. Instead they get these poor people thinking (like you say) paradise on earth can be achieved by pushing aloe vera to your mates, if paradise on earth was a white land rover (vom).

Reminds me of a song I used to listen to as a teenager: 'freed from desire, mind and senses purified nanananananana...' had no idea what she was on about until I got a bit older and realised that wanting more just gives you grief.

Still laughing that the tax officials in the US don't even bother. Says everything.

lazycoo - When you examine the standard depiction of the '100% positive MLM' paradise in the propaganda, it's always the same kitsch comic-book kingdom ruled by benign 'leaders,' in which no one needs to work anymore, but where everyone is prosperous, happy, healthy, free, beautiful, etc. and where 'negative' things like taxes, bills, mortgages, divorces, debts, depression, etc., have been banished.

Eyespying · 10/07/2015 15:24

lazycoo - The comic-book Utopian scenario of ordinary-poor humans transforming into 'MLM' millionaire superhumans, has even been turned into a kitsch musical show by one 'Mormon MLM,' mob, 'USANA.'

Well put lazycoo and amazing cultural reference GrinGrinGrin

lastuseraccount123 · 10/07/2015 20:52

I swear it's like you lot are reading my mind sometimes. I was just thinking about the tax thing this morning.

So, if a bot gets 6.50 pounds gross per mascara, how much would that leave her after taxes and business expenses are deducted? Trinity can you give us an idea?

lastuseraccount123 · 10/07/2015 20:55

sorry 6.90 pounds. I'm just rying to figure out how much someone would actually get cash in hand (or cash on their card)

lastuseraccount123 · 10/07/2015 20:56

MY bot update: this might be my favourite yet. You guys don't even know what you're missing.

She's wrapped in some clingwrap and her teeth are green, some kind of pre-party preparation. #bossbabe

lastuseraccount123 · 10/07/2015 20:57

she looks like she's got algae on her choppers

lazycoo · 10/07/2015 21:13

Erm, wonderful advertising there? I'm sure everyone will be flocking to buy the products now!

lastuseraccount123 · 10/07/2015 21:27

I know right? ha!

lazycoo · 10/07/2015 21:27

Omg. That's hilarious!!
Someone really senior posted a pic advertising whitening kits 'for a friend'. They only changed the filter on the before and after pics. Lazy, if anything lol.
I couldn't believe someone so senior would be peddling such shite with such obviously bad pictures!

lastuseraccount123 · 10/07/2015 21:28

btw, lazycoo, i know this thread isn't about that but thanks for the tip about the Estee Lauder mascara Grin

lastuseraccount123 · 10/07/2015 21:38

You have a rolling target to meet of 125 personal sales over a 3 month period. Example Jan: 50 Feb: 50 March: 25 then Feb: 50 March: 25 April: 50...If that makes sense?

If you don't meet the target you go inactive but you can reactivate yourself easily enough.

125 personal sales rather than 125 pounds?

throwingpebbles · 10/07/2015 21:39

lastuser ShockGrin those photos are priceless!

lastuseraccount123 · 10/07/2015 21:51

you're welcooooooooooooooooome

Chchchchangeabout · 10/07/2015 22:08

Lastuser I guess tax would be likely zero given the level of £££ any of these people are likely to be earning...

TalcumMucker · 10/07/2015 22:14

Maybe PRS stands for personal sales? Then it would be $125 in sales every 3 months if I understood Trinity correctly.

The green teeth are incredible. Is there an 'after' photo? Or is green the desired shade? Grin

lastuseraccount123 · 11/07/2015 00:38

could be but just goes to show how misleading all the jargon is. Why can't they just say "you have to sell x number of items at x number of pounds each over 3 months" but I guess once you explain that PRS = USD, and you get 20-30% of that, but then that amount is converted into pounds, and less business expenses it gets kinda complicated. or maybe it just is complicated.
