I wondered if anyone out there would be interested in joining a thread for those who have recently experienced a miscarriage - a place to share how we’re feeling emotionally, physical recovery, becoming ready to try again (for those that want to), and hopefully one day positive stories of successful preganancies.

I’m 32 and recently had a miscarriage at 5-6 weeks of my first pregnancy. I was relieved to have conceived after quite a short time, because I have PCOS and was worried I might struggle to get pregnant.

My miscarriage was about 2 and half weeks ago now, and today is the first day I’ve not had any spotting/bleeding at all, and that has been a relief to feel like my body is moving on from it. I know it’s advisable to do a pregnancy test a few weeks after miscarriage, which is something I’m a bit anxious about doing as I’m fairly sure it will be an emotional thing to do.

Since it happened my sleep pattern and energy levels have been a bit all over the place. Some days I’ve just wanted to sleep all the time, which I think could be a mix of actual physical tiredness and also emotional tiredness/hormonal changes. I was back at work for the first time today, and it was helpful to have something else to focus on and motivate myself for.

I’ve restarted tracking my BBT to see what happens with my cycle returning, though I’m aware it could take a while to get back to normal. My husband and I are both on the same page that we’d like to try again once I’ve had one normal period, so I guess we’ll just see how things go and how we feel when we reach this point.

Sorry this has turned into a longer post than I expected! Anyway, if there’s anyone out there who’s had a similar experience recently and would like a place to share feelings/questions/advice it would be lovely to hear from others.

@Fairylight102 @Chocolatebean I'm glad it's not just me! It sounds like it must be a post miscarriage issue then ☹️ So annoying as I had nothing like this after the first one.

Do let us know what they reply!

SMG1992 · 07/03/2023 08:04

I'm also having a confusing time with my ovulation this month.
I finally got a static smiley on the CB test on Saturday - after 7 days of flashing.
Then had spotting blood on Sunday, which is still sticking around a little bit today - I don't think I've had this at ovulation before.
Along with hardly any ewcm in the last week but little bit today. The CB tests say my LH peak is over, but now I'm wondering if I'm still ovulating?!

I literally had no idea when I ovulated/what ewcm or LH peaks were when I got pregnant before!
My body defintiley doesn't feel like it's back to pre MC/pregnant state along with the fact I'm about 7 pounds heavier!!

kookyelephant · 07/03/2023 08:40

Firstly a massive congratulations to you all @Vt86 @Travellingislife @38andtrying so happy for you!!!

I'm really struggling at the moment - I go in waves where I think I've got this and don't allow it to bother me and then days like today where I just want to sit and cry for hours on end! Just like why isn't this happening for us!!!

My miscarriage referral was rejected yesterday as the clinic want the gp to carry out more blood tests a TSH & FSH - from a bit of googling I think it's to do with my thyroid and follicles!

I'm due to be ovulating soon do you all highly recommend the CB test kit? I've used it once (I think it was the first time really of trying) but found it really confusing but that might have just been because I was so new to the TTC game, so have been using the cheapy ones from Amazon ever since but think knowing what I know now maybe they really aren't that difficult!

I'll try anything at this point I'm getting to the point of desperation! And really hate it!!!!

Sending love to all as always 💕

TheBirdintheCave · 07/03/2023 08:51

@kookyelephant I just found it frustrating to be honest as it would give me flashing smileys for days on end. I don't think I ever had a static smiley (peak).

Chocolatebean · 07/03/2023 09:52

@38andtrying thank you so much stupid period has stopped after a day 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️. How are you feeling xxx
@SMG1992 @Fairylight102 @Enigma85 @VillageFete @kookyelephant @mollibu sorry if I’ve missed anyone. Village fete did you have your night out and enjoy it.
my period that started yesterday also ended yesterday ffs 🤦‍♀️. I’ve e mailed the fertility clinic about my symptoms and what a lot of you are getting I’ll let u know as soon as I hear anything. I’m back on my bike today after my walk. I too have put in just over half a stone and let myself go. It’s hard loosing weight while having full fat dairy. I know exercise can affect ttc but I need to start looking after myself as I am spiralling into depression, I’m not going on anti depressants so need to tackle it in other ways. Hopefully it will improve my circulation and bring my period back.xxx

SMG1992 · 07/03/2023 10:05

@Chocolatebean That is so odd about your period, hopefully it's only just starting rather than only being a day.

I'm currently getting some blood - no idea if it,s ovulation bleeding still, implantation, potentially my period (almost 2 weeks early), or potentially something more sinister?!

I know what you mean about spiralling, I hope exercising on your bike helps to make you feel a bit better. I ran 10 miles on Sunday which is the most I've run for months as I've been trying to "be careful" but it made me feel so much better mentally which I knew it would.
The balance on still enjoying life whilst TTC (especially after loss) is hard to get right.

VillageFete · 07/03/2023 10:58

@Chocolatebean I did! Got suitably hammered and had a wonderful time!!

Period arrived today. Never been so happy! 7 week’s post procedure exactly. I just hope it’s a “proper” period and I can go for embryo transfer. I have been so worried.

Chocolate - If it doesn’t kick in again then would you consider a saline scan? Not sure where you are in the Country but Cherish in Sutton Coldfield do them (I’ve had 2) They are about £400 - Ouch, I know 😨But they will detect any issues that may be causing period issues (If they have changed since your miscarriage)

TheBirdintheCave · 07/03/2023 11:03

@VillageFete Woohoo! Glad it arrived for you and that you enjoyed your night out :D

Chocolatebean · 07/03/2023 11:07

@VillageFete thats awesome thank goodness I’m so happy for you, I wonder if you just needed to relax and let go and then it could start.
if you don’t mind me asking what is a saline scan is it where they push the saline through the tubes and see if there’s any blockages, I would absolutely consider anything. I had one of those years ago and was pregnant within 2 weeks and he is 7 now xxx

Chocolatebean · 07/03/2023 11:13

@SMG1992 while on the bike period started again u can’t write this 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️. Yeah I’ve been living like a saint no painkillers 5 months ago I was on gabapentin baclofen and beta blockers for my migraine so I’ve come off all that and I haven’t taken any painkillers even when I’ve had a headache so I’m going to take a co codamol if I get a headache. I’ll stick with the heathy eating but no idea how long this is going to take. Well done on the run that is impressive I think our mental health is so important mine is awful at the minute so onwards and upwards xxx
@VillageFete omg will you now be able to get a date for your ivf xxx

VillageFete · 07/03/2023 11:21

@Chocolatebean Yes, I should have transferred before end of March if all goes to plan. We will see, things rarely go to plan for me 😂

So a saline scan is not the same as what you had (Yours sounds like a hycosy) The saline scan/aqua scan checks the endometrium, not the tubes. It checks for any scarring/adhesions/polyps/fibroids. Basically anything that would make your period a bit dodgy. If anything is found then you’d have a hysteroscopy to remove the problem and then fertility is restored.

It’s doubtful that there’s anything wrong, but always worth checking if your periods change long term after a miscarriage. It’s just something to think about if something seems “off” with your cycle for more than few months. X

SMG1992 · 07/03/2023 11:50

@Chocolatebean Oh my god - what are the chances of that?!
@VillageFete I'm glad you enjoyed your night out! The saline scan sounds interesting.

I'm considering getting in touch with my gp re my periods, todays blood has managed to get heavier so after the LH surge on Sunday and the 7 days flashing smileys prior so I don't think I am in the 2 week window, I don't even know where I am in my cycle :(

VillageFete · 07/03/2023 12:57

@SMG1992 Oh I’m sorry to hear this. My period is very light so far, but a scan a few week’s ago showed a thickened lining so if it doesn’t kick in soon i’ll be worried. I really want to start this embryo transfer process!

SMG1992 · 07/03/2023 14:06

@VillageFete Thickened lining is good, hoepfully you're moving in the right direction.
All the best for your proper period and then moving on to the embryo transfer!

Chocolatebean · 07/03/2023 14:15

@VillageFete the saline scan sounds brill 😊

VillageFete · 07/03/2023 17:13

I’ve had a freak out because period is bloody crap. Barely there. Don’t understand how with such a thickened lining. I guess it could be hormonal or at worst it’ll be scarring.

Chocolatebean · 07/03/2023 17:40

@VillageFete give it a day or so since the mc mine is just spotting for at least 24 hours then gets a bit heavier but I only have half the period amount I did before the MC xxx got my fingers crossed it gets heavier. What are we all like huge hugs as I know you must be so stressed xxx

VillageFete · 07/03/2023 17:56

@Chocolatebean Thanks lovely. It’s so hard isn’t it x

mollibu · 07/03/2023 22:12

AF has just arrived, trying not to get too down about it! Here's to CD1... 😔

TheBirdintheCave · 07/03/2023 22:30

Sorry @mollibu :(

SMG1992 · 08/03/2023 08:11

AF is defintiley in full swing for me. 2 weeks early and heavier than I've had since I was a teenager before I was on the pill. I'm taking it as a good sign that my body is getting back to normal, it feels more normal than the last period I had which was barely there.
I've also ordered some OVUM supplements for this cycle along with a thermometer to start tracking bbt and the easy at home opks, rather than the CB flashing ones.
Full steam ahead we go!!

I also have a gp appointment booked for tomorrow as want to have it on record that my body isn't back to normal 7.5 weeks after my mmc, I might ask about some kind of treatment eg Clomid etc. Anyone had experience of this with their GP? I'm guessing it's not that easy but I want to start having these things on record.

Enigma85 · 08/03/2023 09:30

Hi all, had my bfp this morning at 12dpo and 2 months after mmc surgery. Very surprised as tested twice at 7dpo and 9dpo and got bfn, I know it was early but had my bfp 8dpo last time so thought I was out. Ovulated 3 times and had two periods so think that means it took three cycles? Haven't had any symptoms other than period like cramps and some mild nausea but think that was anxiety with big work changes, so to say I'm worried is an understatement. Keep feeling my boobs to see if they are sore but they feel fine, will just have to wait and see but taking the positives for now. Sending you all lots of positive wishes.

omg omg omg @Enigma85 massive congratulations that is such wonderful news and look at that amazing line you go girl. Any tips?
@mollibu @VillageFete @SMG1992 that’s us all starting our periods on the same day village fete has yours picked up yet? U think mine is a bit heavier than last month
@SMG1992 thats a brill idea about getting it logged with the gp, will you let Me know what they say I think I may try the same. I’m 39 and have kids already so don’t think they’ll do anything for me but u never know.
the private fertility clinic replied just saying if I have questions I need to book a consult. i can’t decide whether to just have a consult now or wait another month. I do have my menstrual clinic appt on 18th March so I shall defo ask them.
today I woke up 4am with a mega migraine and I am visiting my friends newborn ( she’s 45 so pretty amazing ) not sure how I feel I guess I’m going anyway so I’ll just have to be ok xxx

Enigma85 · 08/03/2023 10:11

Thank you @Chocolatebean we followed SMEP this month :)

VillageFete · 08/03/2023 10:25

@Enigma85 Massive congratulations!! Can I ask, did you have medical or surgical management?

@SMG1992 I have some Letrozole at home. I think i’m going to start that if I don’t have embryo transfer this month. Letrozole is superior to Clomid. Go to your GP and ask. Tell him/her your cycles are erratic and you want to get things under control.

@Chocolatebean No, it’s crap! Bright red but barely any flow. I have an internal scan booked in for today at 1.15pm and then I need to make a decision if i’m going to press ahead with embryo transfer or if i’m going to have a saline scan next week for peace of mind…. But it just means bloody delaying everything again. I just don’t know if it’s sensible to press ahead with a transfer after such a crap bleed? My lining was thickened and looked good 3 weeks post ERPC, so it might still be too thick to even start 😫
