I wondered if anyone out there would be interested in joining a thread for those who have recently experienced a miscarriage - a place to share how we’re feeling emotionally, physical recovery, becoming ready to try again (for those that want to), and hopefully one day positive stories of successful preganancies.

I’m 32 and recently had a miscarriage at 5-6 weeks of my first pregnancy. I was relieved to have conceived after quite a short time, because I have PCOS and was worried I might struggle to get pregnant.

My miscarriage was about 2 and half weeks ago now, and today is the first day I’ve not had any spotting/bleeding at all, and that has been a relief to feel like my body is moving on from it. I know it’s advisable to do a pregnancy test a few weeks after miscarriage, which is something I’m a bit anxious about doing as I’m fairly sure it will be an emotional thing to do.

Since it happened my sleep pattern and energy levels have been a bit all over the place. Some days I’ve just wanted to sleep all the time, which I think could be a mix of actual physical tiredness and also emotional tiredness/hormonal changes. I was back at work for the first time today, and it was helpful to have something else to focus on and motivate myself for.

I’ve restarted tracking my BBT to see what happens with my cycle returning, though I’m aware it could take a while to get back to normal. My husband and I are both on the same page that we’d like to try again once I’ve had one normal period, so I guess we’ll just see how things go and how we feel when we reach this point.

Sorry this has turned into a longer post than I expected! Anyway, if there’s anyone out there who’s had a similar experience recently and would like a place to share feelings/questions/advice it would be lovely to hear from others.

@Fairylight102 I'm ok :) Started OPKs for the first time in years (they don't often work for me either) and got an almost positive today so I think I'm having the same problem. I'm CD10 today of cycle two post miscarriage and already on the road to ovulation 🤷🏻‍♀️

Chocolatebean · 19/02/2023 17:32

Hi @Fairylight102 i honestly just feel for you as mine are all over as well and it’s the last thing we need when all we want is to be pregnant again. I’m no expert but they say vitex/chasteberry is goo to lengthen cycles again it’s just what I’ve read I’m taking it but I’m a total supplement addict I’m probably doing more harm than good. From a scan 8 years ago they said my ovaries were poly cystic but it was never mentioned again. How are u in yourself, it’s a tough journey xxx

Fairylight102 · 19/02/2023 18:31

@TheBirdintheCave Sorry to hear you’re having the same issue! It’s so frustrating isn’t it?

@Chocolatebean Absolutely it’s the last thing we need! In myself I’m still quite up and down. I’ve actually coped ok emotionally with this period arriving (aside from being surprised/confused). A couple of days ago though I had a terrible low mood which I’m realising now was probably PMS, but worse than PMS I’ve had before - barely able to engage with anything.

I hope all our journeys take a positive turn soon.

@Chocolatebean @Fairylight102 Yeah it's so frustrating. Also means I'm going to have to get a move on booking our pre-IVF scan as it needs to be done CD18-25 🤦🏻‍♀️ It feels very real now, I thought I'd have at least until mid March before I had to start jabbing myself with needles.

Fingers crossed for all of us!

Chocolatebean · 19/02/2023 18:55

@Fairylight102 we absolutely need some good news I just assumed my periods would pop back the way they were it’s just not bloody fair is it. I got a call this afternoon from
the menstruation clinic all I can think is it’s something to do with my polyp/retained products they offered me an appt I’ve taken it as I figure I’ll just tell them how out of whack
theyve gone and see what they say. It’s not until 18th March so a good way away.
oh wow @TheBirdintheCave hey that gives you a lot less time to think and worry. Do you know how long you will have to inject for? Are you doing an egg collection as well as transfer or do you have one waiting xxx

TheBirdintheCave · 19/02/2023 19:00

@Chocolatebean My clinic are being a bit lax in sending my treatment plan over but my best guess based on the consultation is that it won't be too many days of injections 🙏🏻 She really hammered home how careful they want to be in avoiding OHSS with me as apparently I'm more likely to get it.

This will be our first ever cycle so I will be having an egg collection, yes :) Not looking forward to that 😅

Fairylight102 · 19/02/2023 19:16

@TheBirdintheCave Good luck with the IVF! It must be daunting but it’s good you have a clear plan of what’s coming up.

@Chocolatebean I hope they get to the bottom of what’s going on with the polyp/retained product for you soon.

@TheBirdintheCave have got absolutely everything crossed for you. Ooh no you don’t want ohss that can be super nasty can’t it. Fingers crossed for not too many injections at least you know once you start you have a good idea how long until you find out the outcome and you may have some to freeze as well. No matter which we we ttc It just messes with your head doesn’t it xx
@Fairylight102 oh thanks sweet I have no idea why they’ve given me an appt in a menstrual clinic but thought it was better than nothing lol xxx

Hi all,

just catching up on all of the comments, but wondering if anyone who miscarried before I did and had had a period/periods since can shed some light?

Had surgical management on 17th Feb. Today is 35 days post surgery - still no period, although my cycles are approx 38 days so not unusual for me.

Had a scan 21 days post surgical management. No ovulation (Again, expected. I rarely ovulate) Lining looked good at 9mm.

The weird thing is that i’ve had strong period pains on and off for the last week. I’ve been convinced AF will show any second, yet here I am.

Why the pain but no period?! Freaking out about scarring post procedure now. Just desperate for AF to start.

I’m definitely not pregnant. Early response tests are stark negative.

SMG1992 · 21/02/2023 11:12

Hi @VillageFete
Did you mean 17th Jan? If so that's the same day as me but I took the pessary pills not D&C (which I'd chosen the surgical option in hindsight!)

I had a VERY light period which started last Thursday but was only ever when I wiped which is nothing like how my periods were pre MC.

I think it can take a while for periods to come back after MC and there can be various factors why they may be different for a few months, I think my iron may be low after MC so it may be worth getting them checked?
Also I think if there was any scarring it would have been visible on your scan?
I had a scan 3 weeks post and thought I had ovulated so I wish I'd asked if they could see!

Sophiey11 · 21/02/2023 11:15

Hi @VillageFete i had surgical management in December. I had a period in October but it was VERY light. Some days I didn’t even need a pad, it was only there when I wiped (sorry if too much info) so I found it hard to call it a period. This lasted 6 days. Then October I had the same but for only 2 days. November I finally had a ‘normal’ period. So it did take a few cycles for me to even out, plus around 6/7 weeks for my period to return after the surgery. Hope this helps and sorry for your loss xx

Sorry that should say I had surgical management in September *

Chocolatebean · 21/02/2023 14:47

Hi guys I’ve had 2 periods since the mc and both of mine have been super light. I had a scan 2 days before my period was due and the woman said it looked like I was just about to ovulate so mine are all messed up so far as well. Looks like things take much longer to stabilise than we would like which totally sucks. I’ve started vitex last week as that is supposed to do amazing things but we shall just see. Xxx I only took the pessary pills as well

VillageFete · 21/02/2023 16:07

Thanks so much for replying guys.

Yes - 17th January I meant. So, 5 weeks today.

Just a bit worried that i’ve had such intense on/off discomfort for a week.

Desperately hoping AF arrives in this next week or I’ll seriously panic!

I’m having an embryo transfer on this cycle and can’t wait.

Thanks for the reassurance x

Chocolatebean · 21/02/2023 16:32

Oh wow @VillageFete thats so exciting I hope so much it starts for you if not can the clinic give you something to start your period? Please give keep us updated how you get on we need some good news xxx

TheBirdintheCave · 21/02/2023 18:42

@VillageFete That's so exciting! :D Keep us updated with how it goes!

Kate33ttc · 21/02/2023 20:35

Hi. I just had an early loss. I'm still bleeding from it. I was just 4 weeks. Is it necessary for me to go to the doctor? I'd really rather not. I don't want to talk to anyone about it in person. I just want to get another positive lh strip and try again.

TheBirdintheCave · 21/02/2023 21:03

@Kate33ttc Sorry for your loss x You don't have to go to a doctor if you don't want to.

Sophiey11 · 21/02/2023 21:10

@Kate33ttc sorry for your loss. If you feel you can manage symptoms at home then you don’t need to go to a doctor. I miscarried at 5 weeks in January. I had to go to hospital to have it confirmed, however I manage the physical side of everything at home and haven’t been back since. Hope you’re okay xx

Morning everyone 💕💕

Sorry to hear emotions are still so high, I feel the same!

After waiting 6 weeks for my lupus blood test to come back I've finally been referred to the miscarriage clinic so that's positive!

I'm currently on my tww and trying to stay positive - with difficulty.

Talking supplements I noticed some of you are taking small dose aspirin, is this damaging in anyway? Because I've had my first positive blood test for APS im wondering if I should just take it just in case?

Hoping everyone's cycles get back to normal soon 💕

SMG1992 · 22/02/2023 09:26

Has anyone had issues with their skin post MC? I'm 5.5 weeks post and I know my hormones are not quite back to normal yet but I seem to have had some kind of flare up of rosacea/ rash on my face.
I know it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but when I'm already feeling shoddy it's just another thing to bring me down.

@kookyelephant here is a nhs doc regarding low dose of aspirin which should help you www.esht.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/0925.pdf

I'm so sorry, I think I've posted on the wrong thread. I'll ask mumsnet to delete.

Take care all.

kookyelephant · 22/02/2023 09:38

@countrypunk - reading your post - I don't think you have. But not sure if there's a more suitable one for loss after IVF xx
