Thanks for the new thread @AMS19.

I've been trying to keep off mumsnet/Google but have been having a quick skim read every night to keep up!

I'll be 7 weeks post mva on Wednesday and still period less... I did have a positive opk about 3 weeks after my surgery and then really bad period cramps exactly when I'd expect my period but no bleeding, not even a bit of spotting!

To say I'm a bit fed up is an understatement! Just feel totally stuck in limbo! 😵

LostFox82 · 16/02/2021 07:54

Hello everyone, I’m 3 weeks post erpc and just had my negative test, hooray!

I’ve been a bit naughty as finally stopped bleeding 2 weeks ago then had a few days of ewcm last week and had sex, I’m now regretting it a bit going against doc advice. We will see. Anyone else done that?!

I feel so anxious about trying again i don’t see how you can ever enjoy pregnancy after a mc. I loved my last 2 pregnancies.
I’m about to turn 39 and have started taking boots conception vits, when I took pregnacare for my first pregnancy it completely changed my cycle so be aware if taking something new! Although I did get pregnant quickly...

AMS19 · 16/02/2021 07:59

@Pettylamby hi! Have you taken pregnancy tests? If they are negative it's probably just a your body taking its time. I know how frustrating this period feels, all the waiting! Everything seems to take forever. Hopefully you get your period really soon xx

@LostFox82 welcome. I really sorry you've had to join us. We started having sex 2 weeks after mva too, but I didnt catch. In a way I was quite pleased as I feel better trying in a new cycle. But there is absolutely no reason to worry, you are at no more risk not waiting for a period at all! I agree, a new pregnancy will be SO hard, but we will just have to take 1 day at a time and cling onto the hope that the previous time(s) were unfortunately most likely just bad luck and the statistics are still hugely in our favour xx

dippyegg32 · 16/02/2021 07:59

@Pettylamby similar story here! I've had one period last month and it was so long, but stupidly light, irritating more than anything else. I'm now a day late, been cramping badly since Saturday but nada. Every morning since Saturday been expecting a temp drop but still high over 37. The human body is really confusing!

DMT1982 · 16/02/2021 08:13

@AMS19 I read you had a negative FRER after I had posted. That’s fantastic news and yes means you won’t have to go through the trauma of having a scan as it’ll bring back memories and be traumatic just walking into EPU. Are you able to chase your doctor up and pretend it’s been a week as it kind of has been give or take a day to so? Xxx

Pettylamby · 16/02/2021 08:15

@AMS19 so I had taken an FRER a wee while ago and I thought it was negative was chuffed and then looked at it later and there was a vvvvvvvfl! Did one the other day and still a vvvvvvvfl! A line so light that only I could see, if I showed OH he'd think I was off my head but its defo still lingering!

@dippyegg32 it's so frustrating isn't it - it took me 95 days to get a period after I came off the pill so I think my body is very slow to regulate hormone wise. I'm not sure why I'm surprised I'm having to wait again... I guess I just thought being back in a regular cycle would kick start things after the MVA but alas no!

Just feel so left behind and frustrated right now! Probs doesn't help I've put on a few pounds and generally feeling a bit blah! 😕

Sorry everyone don't mean to be a moan but just going through a wee bad patch!

dippyegg32 · 16/02/2021 08:27

Can I ask a question about HCG tests? Is it normal for lines to be lighter in the three minutes processing time but darken overtime? Because I’m not sure which to go by, the first strength it comes as or how it dries throughout the day 🤷🏻‍♀️

AMS19 · 16/02/2021 08:28

@DMT1982 I probably could chase them but I'll give it another day or two. I won't get a chance to go to EPU now for another week or so she even if they are higher than I would like, I'll have to sit on them. I'm praying for them to be below 10, but would be okay with anything below 20 I think. What will be really interesting for this crowd (and anyone reading in future) is Wednesday was the day I peaked! I got the bloods at 4pm and I think I missed my peak somewhere between 7am and 6pm. So this will be almost be to the hour what your hcg levels need to be to peak and thrn ovulate...

@Pettylamby don't be sorry its totally normal to feel fed up. I felt like that quite often until I ovulated this cycle, then was filled with hope again. Like I said to @TheHotelCalifornia this time isn't wasted. Use it to do a bit of exercise, work on yourself mentally and improve your diet/take supplements. The egg starts to develop 3 months before it hatches, so everything your doing now IS working towards that baby xx

AMS19 · 16/02/2021 08:30

@dippyegg32 yep all my tests are loads darker once they dry!

dippyegg32 · 16/02/2021 09:00

I wish they offered HCG bloods as standard after miscarriage. I totally understand the monetary costs that would involve but it would certainly provide emotional support to women in terms of closure.

PlantMummy87 · 16/02/2021 09:31

Hi all. Thanks @AMS19 for setting this new thread up.

@dippyegg32 absolutely agree that offering hCG bloods as standard would be a positive to help women. I felt like I was barely supported and told to just take a test 3 weeks after, and even after that when I was getting positives still there was reluctance to do much for me other than wait another week and take another test. I ended up getting a private scan which provided me with the reassurance I really needed. It's amazing how different EPUs across the country do things.

Hope everyone is okay today.

I'm feeling pretty fed up today 😞 I'm pretty sure I'm getting a load of different PMS symptoms to normal and definitely feeling moody but it's still a week until AF. Not feeling like it is my month this month. I was so positive up until this point that if it wasn't this month it would be okay and that my body is just getting back to normal and healing but now I'm feeling like I'm out I'm feeling pretty low about it.

PlantMummy87 · 16/02/2021 09:32

Sorry to that I'm feeling negative. I hope everyone else is feeling a lot better and get to enjoy some pancakes today! 😊🥞

MeganChar1 · 16/02/2021 10:04

Hi Ladies,

Can I join this thread? I found out at my 12 week scan on the 18th of Jan our baby died at 7+4. We had previously had a private scan at 6+5 where we saw heartbeat and everything looked fine which I think made it a bigger blow. Had no symptoms of miscarriage at all other than my symptoms had slightly eased but I kept reading that that could be normal as well. I have an underactive thyroid which is a risk factor for miscarriage and I’ve since learned it wasn’t being managed as it should have been and there are different things I can put in place for next time, we have decided to wait 6 months before ttc again as also moving house soon too. This was first pregnancy and the loss has absolutely floored me because I didn’t think it would happen to me. I had d&c on 22nd jan and my hcg levels are still gradually lowering.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any specific research as to why missed miscarriages happen after a heartbeat has been detected? I just really want to make sense of what happened, although I’m well aware my thyroid could have contributed x

TheDaydreamBelievers · 16/02/2021 10:49

@MeganChar1 the causes of MC after heartbeat and before heartbeat are much the same within the first trimester (fetal genetic abnormality, anything affecting growth of the yolk sac or placenta, infections etc... A lot of the time no one knows. ). I don't think the reasons change, just the likelihood of it happening after a heartbeat is lower. A huge number of things need to go right for a pregnancy to work out and unfortunately about 1 in 4 don't work out (as we can all attest to sadly).

The reasons for miscarriage / fetal death start to change as you get into the v end of trimester 1 or into trimester 2, which is why a lot of healthboards offer testing for these people

TheDaydreamBelievers · 16/02/2021 11:05

I'm also gonna share my FF chart. Which is way, way less nice than @AMS19's beautiful chart Sad😭

AMS19 · 16/02/2021 11:10

@PlantMummy87 I'm sorry. I'm the same! Feeling crampy today and moody, but am only 5DPO. Would be gutted for my period to come this early, so hoping its not a sign.

@TheDaydreamBelievers trust me, my chart will never be this pretty every again, so milking it 😂😂 watch, you'll fall pregnant with yours and I won't with mine 🙄

AMS19 · 16/02/2021 11:14

@MeganChar1 I'm so sorry youve had to join us. I actually had my thyroid tested after my mmc as I know this can be a factor. It came back normal, but, one of the readings was a bit higher than i liked, so have decided to go gluten free anyway. If you know you have an issue definitely worth next time keeping an eye on it. Taking your time before you TTC is totally fair, and if we have another miscarriage will probably do the same xx

OP posts:
MeganChar1 · 16/02/2021 11:25

@AMS19 I’m doing lots of research on Thyroid in relation to pregnancy. The standard level they test is TSH, they tested mine when I was 5 weeks pregnant and it came out with a level of 5.5, for pregnant ladies it is meant to be 2.5 or under or there’s a risk of complications including mc. It then took them another 2 weeks for them to increase my thyroid medication when the clinical guidelines state it needs to be increased immediately on positive pregnancy test. I actually found out I was pregnant from a blood test at the doctors and it still took them 2 weeks to increase my meds, I was uneducated about the risks at the time but I felt so let down x

AMS19 · 16/02/2021 11:33

@MeganChar1 that's so frustrating! My TSH was 2.6 at my first test and 3.2 at a later one. So okay, but could be better. My antibodies were all very low which is good. Mine is too low to be medicated, so I decided to just go gluten free and then I can hopefully keep it at the lower end. I'm so sorry you were let down, it definitely sounds like you've been let down massively. Are you now getting the support you need?

OP posts:
MeganChar1 · 16/02/2021 11:45

@AMS19 gluten free is a good idea and I plan to do the same as I do unfortunately have the antibodies attacking my thyroid gland (Hashimotos disease) and gluten free has been shown to help with this. Again that factor in its self could have raised risk of mc. Also doctors didn’t tell me not to take my prenatal vits at the same time as my thyroid meds, I now know that some prenatal vits can block the thyroid meds from working so they need to be spaced out a few hours. I’m on a Facebook group now for pregnancy/loss/ttc people with thyroid conditions and it’s helped massively and I’m learning so much about things I can do different next time, unfortunately it’s a worry I won’t get taken seriously again next time and won’t be able to get the support from doctors I’ll need but I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it. I know I can’t guarantee it was due to thyroid issues but it’s something I know won’t have helped. I just basically want to do everything I can to minimise the risk of it happening again. I’ve also read about baby aspirin and progesterone, I don’t have any known conditions which would warrant these being prescribed/used but I’m going to get the relevant tests (privately because I’ve only had one mc nhs won’t test) does anyone have any experience of using these? Thanks x

dippyegg32 · 16/02/2021 12:24

I think I need to convert to FF, natural cycles is way less detailed. I'm loving how pretty yours all look!

Support thread for those experiencing or recently experienced a MC/MMC - Thread 3. ALL welcome!
TheDaydreamBelievers · 16/02/2021 12:47

@dippyegg32 I use Natural Cycles 2 - bought it when we started TTC. However, I dont like it as much as free FF so wont renew. Natural cycles doesnt think I ovulated yet this month so we will see who is right when AF comes! What a great chart you have - lots of DTD over ovulation! When will you test if AF hasnt shown?

The only thing I like more about natural cycles is that it takes into account the darkness of OPKs rather than just a yes/no.

dippyegg32 · 16/02/2021 13:16

@TheDaydreamBelievers I'm testing positive but confident it's a chemical. I'm having a scan and bloods on Thursday.

AMS19 · 16/02/2021 13:38

@MeganChar1 good you have that group for tips. Let us know if there is anything interesting! My husband thinks I'm strange going gluten free when I don't need to, but I feel like mentally the more I can do different next time the better my anxiety will be (albeit still off the scale)

As a long time gluten free person I can tell you most of the breads are horrible! Schuh rolls which you bake briefly are alright so are befree wraps and the wharbartons wraps.
Sainsburys gluten free pasta is the best (it's actually Italian made and gf pasta in Italy is good), white sauces can be made with cornflour and milk. Common misses for gluten are stock, soy sauce (tamari is gf), crisp flavourings and some drinks (vimto, cheaper coke/diet coke).
