Periods after medical miscarriage

Hi, I think I'm about to go insane! I underwent a medical miscarriage after discovering a MMC on 08th July, I was 9 weeks by my dates but the sac was around 7 weeks. I eventually miscarried on the 17th July and got a negative PG test on 09th August.

My period showed its head on the evening of 16th August but literally for 24hrs!! I have had nothing since until yesterday evening when I had some brown spotting and again today some pinky brown spotting on wiping!

I'm so confused as to what my body is doing and I feel so out of control. I understood the first period after a miscarriage would be normal flow or heavier, but this has been practically none existent. Has anyone else had a similar experience? This MC was my second PG, the first ended in TFMR back in November at 15 weeks 😥 I just want to know when we can TTC again as I am 35 at Christmas and getting panicky about getting older!!

Any words of wisdom ladies? It's really starting to get to me xx

Hey @Nellie5115

Urgh! Our bodies are so bloody confusing. I'm sorry you're going through this uncertainty. All I can suggest (and is totally not helpful) is that you wait and see if AF arrives or test again a little later this week.

As I understand it you start producing HCG after implantation, so if you are PG and implantation was a little later than your last pregnancy, then you might not get a +ive for another couple of days. My friend got a negative when she was a couple of days late but now has a bouncing 4month old, so it can happen.

Also, might be worth testing in the morning with first morning wee.

It's hard as I don't want to knock you down but equally I want to give you hope for them it to be dashed. I hope you understand what I mean by that.

Our bodies are wonderfully amazing but they're bloody cruel as well.

Keep us posted chick.

No news here either sadly. Keeping hoping I'll get a letter from the clinic but nothing yet. I'll contact them later this week if I don't get anything xxx

Hey everyone

@Nellie5115 Ive got my fingers crossed for you. I had this a few months ago then AF came but your temp being high is a really good sign so test again in a day or so.

@Wils85 don't feel like a fraud, you definitely deserve your appointment and I hope they can give you answers quickly!

Nellie5115 · 17/02/2021 07:14

@StEmilion @Wils85 thanks ladies woken up today with still a highish temperature but started bleeding a bit more now so I think AF is on her way.

It's a sense of anger and relief as this is the first time my body has ever done this!

I've tracked my BBT for the last 3 and a half years so have all the data of my cycles and never experienced this before. (before I used it as my contraception rather than trying to get pregnant)

Feeling angry as I feel like my body has let me down again. It makes me wonder how I ever got pregnant in the first place!

Every cycle since the MC has been regular but I've had different symptoms sore boobs, nausea, not sleeping etc I just feel exhausted from it all and like I can't trust it anymore.

@StEmilion how is everything with you have you experienced much anxiety or are you just going with the flow?

@Wils85 hoping you get a letter soon it's annoying having to wait for these things. I never understand how it takes so long in this day and age. Xx

Hi ladies, as it's Friday I thought we could have our weekly check in. How are you all doing?

No update from me, still no letter from the FC 😔 almost half way through the TWW and starting to go a little bit insane. I've had vivid dreams for the last few nights, the last two have featured me getting a positive test. They were extremely real, physical sensations and emotions too. I also have a really sore and bigger right nipple 🙈 this is the same nipple that DH and I called the "mega nipple" when I was pregnant the first time. I'm trying SO hard not to think too much into to any symptoms, I've not really has any to write home about, stuff I tend to get every month, thirst, bloat, tiredness etc but I'm trying to be mindful, acknowledge them but not focus and dwell on them.

Let me know how you all are xxx

Happy Friday everyone!

@Wils85 this sounds like a positive symptom, I've got everything crossed for you! When is af due?

@Nellie5115 any news?

xxx

Nellie5115 · 19/02/2021 22:32

@StEmilion AF came Wednesday evening. Its been such a weird time the build up to it was completely different to normal. Sore swollen boobs, high BBT....

Just feel really fed up with it all and worrying that there's something wrong with me. It's only been a few months so I know I'm putting too much pressure on myself but I just can't help it. :(

Anyway enough about me. How are you doing? Xx

Wils85 · 20/02/2021 07:34

@Nellie5115 I'm sorry my love. Our bodies are so blooming confusing. I've had cycles where I have been absolutely convinced I'm PG but I haven't been. I think because we have been through so much, they take a while to find their rhythm. I'm hoping that's the case from me when we eventually get seen at the clinic.

I out waaaaay too much pressure on myself too, it's hard because it's our body that's doing the leg work. Men have it pretty easy if you ask me! But you mind goes into overdrive and you start thinking all sorts. Look at me with my fixation on early menopause and really I don't have anything other than my short periods to support that.

Just know your not alone in how you feel and you can always vent here as we know what you're going through 😘

I hope you all have a lovely Saturday and look forward to hearing from you other lovely ladies xxx

Wils85 · 05/03/2021 17:10

Hi, been thinking of you @Cornflake24

Ok here. Plodding along, I have my booking in appt on Monday (I'll be 9 weeks) and I've booked a private scan for 14th so I'm hoping all is ok. At this point last time there was no heartbeat so of course I'm over analyzing every twinge, symptom and feeling.
The weather here is lovely and sunny so will aim to go out for a walk. Hope you all have good weekends Smile

Cornflake24 · 09/03/2021 11:25

@Wils85 still waiting on results from biopsy but should hear this week.

I am 20 weeks tomorrow though so light at the end of the tunnel.

@smarty4 I did two early scans to make sure we were past the previous MC stages but I can safely say I didn't have any matching symptoms it was very weird haha

I'd say don't read into anything just take every day as it comes and don't stress, no two pregnancies are the same and symptoms change all the time. Keep us posted on your scan though!

AmberLS · 10/03/2021 10:51

Hi ladies, can I jump onto this thread? Ive just spent the best part of an hour reading the thread and I must admit getting tears in my eyes reading your posts. You all have been through so much and i am so sorry for your losses 😔
I had my first mc on 4th Feb - my birthday, typical! It was my first pregnancy and i have really really struggled with it. I am waiting for my first AF and it is driving me insane. Midwife told me on 8th Feb it could take 3-5 weeks for AF to arrive, I have symptoms (but also incredibly sensitive to smells making me nauseous) and I just want to know when/if I will come on. How did you all get through your first month? We havent TTC but havent been careful either. I have no idea what is going on with cycle/ovulation but normal signs around estimated ovulation have appeared. Any advice is much appreciated, thank you.

Wils85 · 12/03/2021 16:31

Hi @AmberLS and welcome 👋🏻 thank you for your lovely message. We seem to have gotten a lovely group of ladies here and you will have noticed that Friday seems to have become our weekly check in day!

I'm so sorry for your loss and on your birthday too 🥺 it's still really early days for you, don't put too much pressure on yourself to have "dealt with it" already. It takes time and the amount of time depends on the person, some take longer than others and that's ok. However you're feeling is ok.

For me, my periods came back pretty close to normal after our MMC in the summer, a bit longer after our TFMR in Nov '19 but I was further along than I was with the MMC. I would advise that you just see what your body does. I know the waiting will be unbearable, but if you had signs of ovulation that's good. I read it could be up to to 6-8 weeks for your period to come back, but I'd listen to your midwife, she's medically trained and I most definitely am not! 🙈

Sensitive to smells and them making you nauseous sounds promising though. If you believe you ovulated, and you think you might be PG again, wait until 14days after you think you ovulated before you test. That's a fairly good rule of thumb (subject to you bit struggling with anything like PCOS or the like).

Sending you lots of love and hope you're bearing up today. Be kind to yourself, you've been through a lot.

How are the rest of you lovely ladies doing on this rainy/windy/sunny Friday?! Xx

Hi @AmberLS,

It took my around 6 weeks for my first period to arrive and my cycle also changed, we did wait until after my first period to try purley because I was still to sore to do anything anyway haha. My symptoms lasted a few weeks after my first negative test weirdly enough. I'd prepare for your cycle to change slightly.

Only thing you can do is be kind to yourself and listen to your body rest when you need to etc haha

AmberLS · 17/03/2021 14:52

Hi @Wils85 and @Cornflake24 thanks for your replies. My period arrived just before the weekend, so it didn't take as long as expected so I am hoping that my cycle will regulate itself now.

Thank you for welcoming me into your group, it is nice to know there is a supportive group of women out there. Hope you're all having a good week.

Lynne425 · 17/03/2021 22:05

Hey Girls

Do you mind if I join!! Found out on 1st Feb that I had an empty sac at 7 weeks!! 😢

11th Feb went in for medical management to start the miscarriage - this failed and didn't work

18th Feb went in for an MVA - which I was told had been successful! 3 weeks later I took a pregnancy test and it's still positive - another failed procedure

Today 28 days later my AF at least turned up however I'm going in tomorrow for a D&C as there is retained product left in my womb!!

So feeling rather sorry for myself at the moment xx

Hi Lynne - i feel like I’m in the same boat as you. First pregnancy for me - found out 13 Feb had a MMC and had surgical management on 17 Feb. 3 weeks later, had a scan and they found some retained product so in I go again tomorrow morning for an endoscopy to remove it. Feeling really quite drained by it all. I hope this will be the end of it and I can finally move on.
Lynne425 · 18/03/2021 06:22

Hey @Cailin1808

Aww we are pretty much on the same boat 💕

Good luck today - 🤞🏻 this is the end for us

Cornflake24 · 19/03/2021 19:10

@Lynne425 I had retained product after an MVA too was so annoyed I ended up naturally having a miscarriage however ended up with an infection and a blocked cervix which was sorest thing ever so least they are taking care of it, sadly I think its very common.

Personally I found the emotional didn't hit me until the medical stopped so please lean on us for support as its such a hard time.

I found this group a massive support as I was clueless on the MVA process as I previously had a natural MC. So I now know how clinical it all can be.

Fingers crossed they clear all tissue this time and you can properly come to terms with it all xxx

Lynne425 · 20/03/2021 09:10

Morning @Cornflake24

So at my surgery on Thursday they think I may have had a molar pregnancy. They are sending away the tissue etc from the D&C to find out for sure.

If it is only retained tissue 🤞🏻🤞🏻 then at least I know that this is the end and hopefully can move on xx

Cornflake24 · 20/03/2021 10:29

Fingers crossed for you x

Cailin1808 · 20/03/2021 16:16

Hi @Lynne425, I wanted to ask if your docs gave you any information on whether AF would be impacted by the hysteroscopy? I’m not sure if the procedure is like having the miscarriage all over again and it will be at least 2 weeks before it comes or it may serve as the gee up the body needed and it may come sooner as a result.
If I could have a little chat with my uterus so it could tell me what its plans are over the coming weeks, that would be great Smile

Cornflake24 · 21/03/2021 14:54

@Cailin1808 a hysterectomy is there they remove your female organs womb etc.

I assume you mean the procedure to remove pregnancy tissue, if so it took me around a month to get my period after I got a negative test but everyone is different.
