Periods after medical miscarriage

Wils85 · 24/08/2020 15:33

Hi, I think I'm about to go insane! I underwent a medical miscarriage after discovering a MMC on 08th July, I was 9 weeks by my dates but the sac was around 7 weeks. I eventually miscarried on the 17th July and got a negative PG test on 09th August.

My period showed its head on the evening of 16th August but literally for 24hrs!! I have had nothing since until yesterday evening when I had some brown spotting and again today some pinky brown spotting on wiping!

I'm so confused as to what my body is doing and I feel so out of control. I understood the first period after a miscarriage would be normal flow or heavier, but this has been practically none existent. Has anyone else had a similar experience? This MC was my second PG, the first ended in TFMR back in November at 15 weeks 😥 I just want to know when we can TTC again as I am 35 at Christmas and getting panicky about getting older!!

Any words of wisdom ladies? It's really starting to get to me xx

Morning @StEmilion sending you so much love ❤️ It must be so very hard to keep positive and not symptom spot and think the worst. Please know that we are with you and you can always come here to vent. Thinking of you xxx

I smiled @StEmilion when I read your news and can only imagine how hard it is to move forward positively in a new pregnancy. Just know we are here thinking of you.

No news from me, I'm on CD 26 and AF due Monday. I'm not hopeful. But this is the first time, in a while, I feel ok ish. Could be the fact I quit my job which was a huge source of stress for me, so I am feeling calmer generally. Probably stupidest decision in the middle of a pandemic but I honestly think the stress has not helped me TTC. I did quit for other reasons too though.

Wils85 · 29/01/2021 07:30

Hey @smarty4 good to hear from you and glad you're a little better. Work can be a massive stressor and let's face it, this journey and this world at the moment is stress enough.

I'm CD25. Not really sure when AF is due, if I'm back in cycle after the chemical then Monday/Tuesday but if not then who knows when! I'm not hopeful either, or at least I'm trying to be real about it. I've not been symptom spotting in the sense I've been getting my hopes up, more that I've been taking note to better understand my cycle. And of course it's information I may need to give to the Fertility clinic when we get our appointment.

How are the rest of you ladies? I've been thinking about you @Cornflake24 and @StEmilion ❤️ xxx

@Wils85 hopefully your appointment comes through soon a friend of mine just received hers for Feb yesterday don't think she was that far ahead of you so fingers crossed, its also amazing they haven't stopped fresh cycles this time (well in scotland) means less of a backlog for those who need treatment too.

I'm doing OK just worried about the colonoscopy, I'm 14 weeks now but knowing I have this and the risk looming over me I just can't relax or enjoy it, has stopped me worrying about MC all the time though iv not thought about it because iv been so worried about the other stuff. Should know something in 2 weeks then its a wait to ensure baby survived it all OK, don't think I will breath until 20 week scan haha.

I really pray this is the month for all of you x

Wils85 · 29/01/2021 08:44

@Cornflake24 I can't imagine what you are going through, replacing one horrific worry with another. Can you ask for a reassurance scan after the colonoscopy to put your mind at rest, or book in for a private scan? I know that would mean spending money but if it settles your mind sooner it would be well spent. You are in my thoughts lovely lady ❤️

That's good news about your friend. I rang on Monday and they said we are half way through the 12 week waiting list (bit more than what they told me by email 🙄) and if we haven't heard anything by mid-Feb then to call again. So at least we know they have our referral and we are in the system. I'm just hoping we get pregnant by then. But then, what if we have another loss and we have to start the wait all over again. Equally what if that pregnancy is for keeps? It's a vicious bloody mind ride and I didn't buy a ticket 🤣

Sending love to you all xxx

@Wils85 they are doing a scan a week after to check but they said there isn't a timeline eg all fine in a week your safe so don't think I will really think we are out of the woods until 20 weeks as that's a full month later

Wils85 · 29/01/2021 09:16

@Cornflake24 ah I see. Oh my love. I wish I could so something to make this easier for you 😔 pregnancy after loss is hard enough. Easy for me to say but try and keep your chin up, always here for a chat/rant/typed crying/virtual screams if frustration, whatever you need xxx

Hi ladies! It's like we have a little Friday catch up which is so nice Smile

Ovulation is currently showing that it could be Monday so I'm doing ovulation tests every day. Currently using the clear blue and no flashing smiley yet. I'm testing in the morning but have read elsewhere that you should test in the middle of the day? What does everyone else do?

I feel alot more positive and hopeful this month so I'm just hoping this mindset stays.

@smarty4 I'm glad you're feeling a little better. It sounds like you did the right thing in terms of your job. Keeping everything crossed for you this month.

@StEmilion @Wils85 not heard of keeping your feet warm before do you do this every day all day? And do you do it when ovulating or after to help implantation? I'm willing to give anything a shot.

@Cornflake24 I really hope you get some answers soon I can't imagine the stress you must be under.

Sending love and hugs to you all on this rainy Friday

Wils85 · 29/01/2021 09:44

Hi @Nellie5115 it really is nice isn't it, just catching up weekly. We should keep it up!

I test for ovulation on a morning first thing the nearly evening but i forgot this month and didn't test until late evening one day and got a peak! I also did some reading about the best time to test. It talked about it being different depending on the time of year which I thought was a bit hippy but also interesting at the same time. I can find the link ATM if I come across it I'll send it on. Most places say afternoon to evening though. I just worry if I don't test on the morning I'll miss it so I do both 🙈

I'm TWWing but I try and keep my feet warm as much as possible now. I have my feet in my foot warmer under my desk as we speak. Even during Fertility yoga last night the lady referred to putting socks on for the relaxation at the end of the session "to keep your womb warm"!

Xxx

Cornflake24 · 29/01/2021 09:45

@nellie5115 I thought you could only test first thing because its strongest pee, would be weaker by afternoon

StEmilion · 30/01/2021 13:49

Hi everyone. Thanks for the support, I can't shake the feeling that something is wrong. I don't know if I'm just being anxious or it's a gut feeling I should trust. Did anyone else feel like this?

@smarty4 good luck for Monday, fingers crossed af doesn't show. I bet you feel like a weight has been lifted, it's so horrible being in a job that makes you miserable and stressed. Taking time away and relaxing will definitely help you conceive.

@Wils85 also have my fingers crossed af doesn't show for you too. So annoying that the appointment is taking so long.

@Cornflake24 I'm glad you're getting a scan after the colonoscopy but guess you will still be worrying. It's hard to even imagine a successful pregnancy after loss.

@Nellie5115 I was doing opks first thing and then again at around 7pm. Just the cheap ones off Amazon. I only got told about keeping my feet warm last month so started wearing thermal socks and slippers then (my feet are literally always cold!) I got peak on opk 2 Jan and have just carried on keeping my feet warm since! I've seen some slippers that you can put in the microwave...I half like the look of them but half think it's a bit gross 😆

Anyway, everyone is having an ok weekend. It's freezing and raining where I am think I'll be staying on today!xxx

StEmilion · 30/01/2021 13:50

*hope everyone is having an ok weekend!

Wils85 · 30/01/2021 14:28

Hey @StEmilion the only time I felt there was something wrong was when I saw the scan photo of the first pregnancy, which if course there was something wrong, but no one else saw it, just me. I had no inkling before that. I think anxiety gets the better of us, especially with what we've all been through. It's hard to shake a gut feeling. I have one and DH and I, I just feel it isnt going to happen for us and I can't shake it.

We are out this month, AF arrived last night during some quality time with DH after him being away for a week (FFS). Early by a couple of days, no idea what to think. I feeling a bit raw about it but just have to focus on the referral and hoping we get answers. So very close to just drawing a line now, even DH said to me last night that he is seating more to the "it's not going to happen" and he has always been the one to keep me positive 😥

I'm doing my usual go to of rearranging cupboards and organising to keep myself busy.

Hope you're all having lovely weekends. Still rooting for you @smarty4 💪🏻 Sending you all love xxx

StEmilion · 30/01/2021 14:40

@Wils85 ah sorry to hear you got af. And what crap timing! With my mmc I felt at one point that something was wrong but then had an early scan at 6 weeks and there was a heartbeat so I just ignored it and told myself everything was fine. I'm going to ring my gp on Monday and see if I can get an early scan. But at the same time don't want an early scan because I can't bear the thought of a sonographer saying something is wrong again.

I should probably also do some tidying but can't be bothered 🙈xxx

StEmilion · 30/01/2021 15:31

@Wils85 just to add- it took me nearly 3 years of on/off trying to get pregnant the first time so there is still hope xxx

Wils85 · 30/01/2021 16:52

Hey @StEmilion you do whatever you need to settle your mind. Scanxiety is real. I'm.nit even pregnant again and the thought of going to another scan makes me feel sick 😔

Thank you for the add on 😘 I know I need to just relax but I just feel like something isn't right and I'm 35 now too, I feel the longer it takes the less likely it is. And I know that 35 isn't old, not really. Just very discombobulated and discouraged at the moment xxx

OP posts:
StEmilion · 30/01/2021 21:08

@Wils85 I hope my post didn't sound insensitive. It's so horrible experiencing loss and everything else that's going on at the moment makes everything more stressful- it's not as if you can have a night out or book a holiday to get away from it all! Ttc is also a pretty horrible time and the uncertainty and heartbreak each month is savage. I've got everything crossed it happens for your soon, you really deserve it xxx

smarty4 · 01/02/2021 11:28

Morning ladies, an update for me is AF was due and didn't arrive, I did a test and bfp. I am happy but the anxiety is overwhelming at times, I can completely relate to how you are feeling @StEmilion. Also my timing as I've just quit my job Confused. Trying to take it as nothing is guaranteed and if this one sticks then great and we're figure a way through (financially). If not then we're carry on.

Also, at least we are now in February. Thankfully. That was a long January!

Nellie5115 · 01/02/2021 11:59

@smarty4 congratulations this is great news Smile just take each day as it comes.

I got my peak today so following EMSP and now going to dtd for the next 3 days. I feel alot more positive this cycle so hoping this one's works and sticks. When following this plan do you dtd just once a day or has anyone else done it more? I'm just so determined to try everything.

Wils85 · 01/02/2021 12:38

@smarty4 congratulations!! That's wonderful news. Just take one day at a time like @Nellie5115 says. It's so lovely to see these BFPs coming through ♥️

@StEmilion it didn't come across as insensitive my lovely, not in the slightest ♥️ I'm grateful for different people's insight. I know, even though they didn't continue, that we are lucky to have caught on so quickly. My period was short again this time, only one full 24hr period of flow. Now I'm just spotting 😔 it's really getting me down as I know there is something not right and I don't know whether to wait out for the Fertility clinic or speak to the doctor sooner as it could be something else not fertility related. I really don't know what to do for the best if I'm honest. We've decided not to actively try until we have been to the clinic, which hopefully won't be too long away 🤞🏻

@nellie5115 we just did it once a day for three days, skipped the day then another for luck. I think once a day is fine as it gives the swimmers time to restock (so to speak 🙈)

Cornflake24 · 01/02/2021 14:30

@smarty4 congrats!

@StEmilion similar to wils I was none the wiser with my first MC all my symptoms stayed consistent, I had no cramping or spotting, it was a total shock at the scan for me. If I'm honest I don't think your body will ever notice a missed MC, the whole point is your body has missed it so there is no way to know. Anxiety is one of the worst things and it's so damaging on your health

I know its hard but you should try and stay positive, I'd suggest reading the secret if you haven't already and stop checking up on symptoms just take each day as it comes

StEmilion · 04/02/2021 08:39

@smarty4 huge congratulations! I hope you're able to relax a bit more than me!

@Wils85 sorry to hear af was only 1 day. What supplements are you taking? I had a thought- after the erpc I started taking pregnacare conception and I'm sure it messed with my cycle and my periods. I switched to proceive max and coq10 and that's when things started feeling more normal.

@Cornflake24 thank you for the book recommendation, I will look it up!

@Nellie5115 we didn't dtd more than once day. The month I got pregnant we dtd on cd11 then got peak on cd12, dtd 3 days straight, missed a day and then dtd the following day.

Update from me- I had a scan on Tuesday and saw a heartbeat. Baby measuring 1 day behind my dates but I suppose you never really know what day you actually conceived. It provided a bit of reassurance but I'm conscious that I had an early scan before and things still went wrong. I'm thinking of having another scan in 2-3 weeks.xxx

Cornflake24 · 04/02/2021 09:04

@StEmilion Congrats, I had a scan at 8 weeks and measured 2 days behind, then had a scan at 10 weeks and measured a full week ahead, don't think it's an exact science. Contact your EPU as well I didnt bother as this was my 2nd MC so didn't think they would help but iv spoken with a few girls who got early scans after one because of anxiety so worth a go.

Wils85 · 04/02/2021 09:05

Hey @StEmilion I tried pregnacare when we first started trying and they gave me the runs 😱 so I switched just to folic acid, added vitamin D when we got pregnant the first time. Never stopped taking either. I added vitamin E last month, and some floradix as I was tired and have started coq10 this week. Really hoping it does the trick.

I'm feeling really low at the moment 😥 which won't be helping either I don't think.

I've been doing fertility yoga for thickening uterine lining every night this week and will continue to do so. I've also got some herbal teas I read about and I'm going to give accupressure a go later. I've cut out crap food this week aswell, which is a big deal for me as I like something sweet in the evening. It sounds like I'm doing such a lot when I write it out 🙈 but I'm just trying to take control of what I can actually control in an effort to make myself feel better.

I just want to speak to the clinic now and know where we are at. I'm really struggling and WFH alone all day is not helping.

I'm so glad you had an early scan. You scan as many times as you want if it gives you reassurance ❤️ I know if I get the chance again, I'll be doing exactly that!

Sending you all lots of love xxx

StEmilion · 04/02/2021 09:20

@Cornflake24 thank you, it's good to know others have been able to get early scans to help with anxiety. I will try and leave it a couple of weeks before ringing the epu. How are things with you? Have you got a date for the colonoscopy?

@Wils85 sorry to hear you're feeling low. It's such a depressing and uncertain situation to be in, and at the most depressing time of year and during a pandemic! And working from home is lonely and boring! Acupressure sounds helpful, even if it's just to help you relax. I wonder if acupuncture might help your cycle too.

I'd better get on with some work... been logged on since 8.15 but haven't actually done anything 🙈xxx
