Wait for period or TTC now?

Hi,

I had a mmc at 7+4 last week (it was just a gestational sac) and I have just stopped bleeding after a week. It's been a bit stop start but now it almost looks as though I might be coming up to ovulation going by my cm (I'm not saying I am though as I have no idea how these things work.)

The nurse at EPU said wait for period before TTC again but gynae doctor said it's just for dating purposes that they say that. I haven't been offered a scan to check everything has 'gone' but I can't imagine it starting again now.

Is it safe to TTC again now or is it safest to wait for my period first? This is all new to me and I'm a bit confused by the different advice online.

Thank you.

Best of luck @Mistymeow, very annoying that they stopped his prescription and he has to have another appointment to get more.

My period has stopped now, very short and continued to be light for me, 5 days in total (which is half my normal time), hoping they will carry on (if they have to) like that! Hoping I can predict ovulation this month too now although the tests never work for me. Maybe I should try temperature readings? That being said I have a lower than average temperature anyway so may be equally difficult to monitor.

Also had a call from the IVF clinic so we’ve got to go in start of next cycle, eeeeek! No idea what to expect mind you, nobody has explained anything to us.

Mistymeow · 31/05/2018 18:44

Thanks @35counting mine was also short and I also find the ovulation tests tricky. I've started to test using a bbt and fertility friend app, seems be quite straight forward so far. Still not completely sure what I'm looking at if I'm honest!

That's great about the IVF clinic! I think I better start getting my fertility tests in now that my body appears to be back to normal. I hope it all goes well x

Hi all, just wondering how everyone is doing? And if anyone has had any luck TTC yet? We are just getting back into it and tracking cycles etc. Hope everyone is doing well.

35counting · 29/06/2018 11:21

Hi all, we had our ivf appointment yesterday and came away with a bag full of needles and drugs, all a bit daunting! What really surprised us is that we cannot ttc naturally whilst going through this process and have to use contraception for the next month! That will be such a change as we haven’t used anything for about 3 years!

I was also surprised to learn that I shouldn’t do any exercise (other than light walking or swimming) as the drugs enlarge your ovaries and strenuous exercise can cause fluid to leak! Bang goes my “getting back into shape post miscarriage” plan! I have 3 weeks to hit the gym before I have to start injecting, will really have to manage my diet instead going forward.

Unfortunately my periods seem to be back to normal now too, nearly 7 days spotting before a proper bleed meaning that window for conception is narrow. Although that doesn’t matter with the ivf.

Not looking forward to the menopause symptoms, anyone else been through it?

Hey everyone! New the the page. Just reading your posts. I’m in the middle of a miscarriage just now. Two days in so far. Started bleeding the night before my 12 week scan Sad the day it was announced at work. Ive learned from my mistakes on the one! I called my midwife today who said she advised not even considering trying before my second period. I’m ready to try as soon as I’m ready physically but I planned to wait due to medical advice. Interesting to see so many people trying straight from negative tests. Bit confused on what I will do now. Confused just hoping and praying next time we don’t have the same heartbreak. Not sure I’m strong enough to go through this a second time!

BadBadBeans · 15/07/2018 06:25

@Scottishgirl88 I'm very sorry to read this. I hope everything has gone okay for you and that you are now recovering. What a horrid point in pregnancy to miscarry, too. Hugs to you.

@Picklesandpies @Nightmanagerfan how are you guys getting on? I had an outrageously long cycle after my first period - 42 days! Then in my second cycle I ovulated right on time and I've been getting positive pregnancy tests for four days now. Just hope it carries on...

Scottishgirl88 · 15/07/2018 07:23

@BadBadBeans thanks! We are on day 19 now and just yesterday the bleeding turned to brown discharge so hopefully it will stop soon. It was a pretty horrible experience. After 6 days of pain getting worse and worse I was rushed to emergency room as I couldn’t stand or breathe, vomiting with the pain. I had to get an emergency d&c without sedation (horrible to be awake and feel all the pain and sensation of every scrape and suction wasn’t nice at all) as the clots were trapped and not passing.
Now I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Took a pregnancy test the other day and only a faint positive. Hospital review tomorrow so I’ll take another test before I go fingers crossed it is negative and they give me the ok that it’s finished and we can start trying asap!
I hope your positive tests are still going strong. Pray it goes well for you!!

Picklesandpies · 15/07/2018 08:53

@Scottishgirl88 firstly I am so sorry to read about your traumatic experience. That sounds so horrible - I'm glad you are coming out of the other side of that now. I do hope your review goes well and you are recovered enough to start trying again.

@BadBadBeans

Congratulations on your positives! Have my fingers crossed for you.

I've stayed away from this thread as I'm actually 10.5 weeks pregnant and I didn't wish to upset anyone (which would be completely natural - I know would have a pang if it was me anyway). We had a scan and the Panorama test on Thursday and everything was fine then but of course I still feel on edge and won't really relax much until I've had my 12 week scan - which is a two weeks on Monday. My heart felt as though it was going to beat out of my chest with anxiety at the last one.

How are you feeling? I feel completely different this time round (I remember neither of us really feeling anything in April) - I've been very sick, sore boobs etc

Best of luck to everyone else TTC. It's a scary time after a mc but we just have to have faith that all will be well eventually Smile

@badbadbeans and @picklesandpies congratulations on your positives!! Such good news.

I definitely ovulated this month and my period is due today, but so far no sign. I’m not going to test until tomorrow though. I have zero symptoms re period at all which makes me think ill just be late this time.

BadBadBeans · 15/07/2018 13:21

@Scottishgirl88 that sounds like a really awful experience. I can't imagine how hard it must have been to go through. I'm glad you are feeling like you are out the other side now. Hopefully you will get the all clear and be able to start trying again really soon.

@Picklesandpies oh wow, congratulations! So did that test that came up with a faint positive turn into a BFP in the end then? Or is this pregnancy from the cycle after your first period? Actually it's lovely to hear that you've got so far already with a positive scan. Best of luck with the Panorama results and the 12 week scan too. I'm only 4+1 so at the moment my only symptoms are the extremely vivid dreams that I always seem to get as the hcg gets going in my system. With DS I didn't feel sick till nearly 7 weeks so I've got a long way to go before I am likely to feel anything - a bit unhelpful really as I'm just going to be worrying! When did you start experiencing symptoms this time?

@Nightmanagerfan that's great news on both the ovulation and potentially late period front! Fingers crossed for you. At least you know that you are ovulating now - I found it SUCH a relief to get a positive ovulation test this cycle.

I'm swinging between feeling like this is definitely a viable pregnancy to feeling like I'm doomed again. I guess that's probably quite normal. I feel more invested in this pregnancy than the last one but that, I'm sure, is just down to the fact that I've now experienced loss and I really don't want it to happen again. It's going to be a looooooong couple of months.

BadBadBeans · 15/07/2018 13:21

Well actually, I suppose it's going to be a long 8 months from this point on! But if I get past the 12 week scan I will feel more confident.

Nightmanagerfan · 20/07/2018 22:45

@badbadbeans how are you doing? Are you feeling ok? Hope all is progressing smoothly and you don’t have too much exhaustion.

I’m now on Cd 37 and no sign of AF. I did a test on CD33 and it was negative, and I haven’t got round to testing again because I’m convinced it’s just my hormones messing up my cycle and it’s just late. @badbadbeans I’ve been thinking of your 42day cycle and it’s been so helpful to know it’s happened to someone else!

Nightmanagerfan · 21/07/2018 21:32

By way of an update - I was just walking home from a bbq and realised my period is now almost a week late, so popped into a shop for a pregnancy test.... BFP! I’m so happy (and shocked). I’d convinced myself it would be negative. Anyway just wanted to share.

Scottishgirl88 · 21/07/2018 23:16

@nightmanagerfan congratulations!! That’s suck exciting news. I hope everything goes smoothly for you and you have a happy and healthy pregnancy and baby! Gives us all a bit of hope! SmileFlowers

Nightmanagerfan · 21/07/2018 23:28

@scottishgirl88 thank you so much for your kind words. Really hoping you have good news soon too. It’s a stressful old process isn’t it.

After some initial elation I now feel quite flat, not at all excited - probably normal after what happened before. I’m five weeks so just seven weeks of nervous waiting til the 12 week scan (when it all went wrong last time). Oh gosh now I feel all emotional!! Will blame hormones and go straight to bed. Night all.

Scottishgirl88 · 22/07/2018 00:03

@nightmanagerfan I completely empathise with the nerves. I’m desperate for the bleeding to stop since my miscarriage (26 days of bleeding and cramping so far now) waiting for it to stop so I can get my first period and we can try again. Part of me is so nervous about even thinking about trying as I was so nervous as it was this time. I don’t know how I will cope with the first 12 weeks again. (Even worse after my mum told me she miscarried at 14 and 16 weeks too) I was the same as you. Started bleeding night before 12 week scan. I guess all we can do is hope and pray. I’m not a religious person at all but this experience has made me consider or hope that there is something out there with a better plan for me. The worst thing you can do is stress and worry so just try to relax and hopefully staying calm and happy will send good vibes to baby to grow healthy with a strong heartbeat. Do keep us updated! I love to hear success stories. This was my first pregnancy and I’m feeling really down and frustrated with it all. Great to know that others have been through similar experiences but were given their happy ending!

BadBadBeans · 22/07/2018 07:31

Oh @Nightmanagerfan I didn't see your post here until just now! So pleased for you. Sounds like you had a long cycle and then ovulated late. So don't be worried if when they scan you, you aren't as far along as your LMP would suggest. I take it from your post on the last thread that you are going to wait till the standard 12 week scan?

I've been up and down about this one too. I just don't feel I can be excited until I know it's okay.

@Scottishgirl88 that is a long time bleeding, you poor thing. I think I bled for 2 and a half weeks and that felt long enough. I would recommend buying a pack of cheap ovulation tests (I used one step from amazon) for your first cycle or two after you stop bleeding. I found it really helpful to know when I had ovulated. It gave me a sense of being in some sort of control!

BadBadBeans · 22/07/2018 09:47

@Picklesandpies how did the Harmony results go? X

BadBadBeans · 22/07/2018 09:48

Sorry, Panorama!

Nightmanagerfan · 22/07/2018 09:48

Thnaks both.@badbadbeans that’s a good point about potentially ovulating late and not being so far along. I’ll bear that in mind.

We do want to do the Harmony or Panorama test this time which I think is at 9/10 weeks. We will go private (annoyingly our trust is funding this from September but we will just miss that cut off I think). I might take my last midwife’s advice from last time and go for a dating scan before so I know exactly how far along I am.

Now I come to think of it I’ve been going to the loo more than usual and have had some cramping, all of which happened last time. I’m feeling quite deflated though. Not to sound ungrateful but everything went wrong last time so I don’t want to get too excited.

Nightmanagerfan · 22/07/2018 09:50

@scottishgirl88 I had a surgical termination so not the same as you, but I bled for about six weeks and then got my period about two weeks after that, so it might be just one of those things. It is crap lasting so long though... hope it dies down soon. I tried to rest a lot, eat iron rich food and be good to myself.

BadBadBeans · 22/07/2018 09:55

@Nightmanagerfan I think you can do the Panorama from 9 weeks and the Harmony is definitely from 10. Dating scan sounds like a good plan, especially as you prob aren't quite as far on as LMP suggests. I am due 23.3.19 but was getting positives 10 days ago so I would imagine you conceived ever so slightly later than me? I'm getting the Harmony done. I did check with the lady who does it last time whether I would still have to pay for the whole test if I turned up and a MMC was discovered and she said absolutely not, we would only get charged for the scan. I haven't booked it yet this time round though.

I think your mind just goes into self protection mode. If you got super excited you might be setting yourself up for more trauma so your mind makes sure you keep something in reserve. That's how I feel anyway. X

Picklesandpies · 22/07/2018 20:14

Hi @BadBadBeans so sorry for not replying the other week. We have been incredibly busy and it's been a rather stressful few weeks with feeling sick and trying to sell house, end of year school things etc

I haven't had results of NIPT yet. We had the Panorama test. It can take 2.5 weeks to come back and it will be two weeks on Thursday since we had it done.

I have my 12 week scan next Monday. I know I'm going to be really anxious but hopefully all ok. I have heard the heartbeat on a Doppler.

How are you feeling? Different to last time?

Congratulations @Nightmanagerfan xxx

BadBadBeans · 22/07/2018 20:23

@Picklesandpies oooh good luck with the house sale! Fingers crossed for the test and scan - do let us know how they go if you have a spare moment!

I feel exactly the same as last time - crazy dreams and dizziness and nothing else. I'm only 5+1 though. I will start worrying if I get to 7 weeks without feeling any nausea or breast tenderness. Still veering wildly between totally confident it will be okay to totally convinced I'm going to lose it early again. I've got a stinking cold and sore throat courtesy of DH which is making me feel like crap on a plate - maybe that is making symptoms?!
