total headwreck, empty sac 11 days ago, embryo 6wk there today...

It was very hard to put this into a title but basically I had a dating scan 11 days ago when i reckoned i ought to have been 9 weeks pg. In the scan there was an empty embryonic sac measuring 7 wks but no yolk or fetal pole. The sonographer said it was most likely a miscarriage but that I would need to come back in 10 days to see if there was any growth during that time as a protocol.

I have spent the past 11 days in total turmoil and limbo. Waiting any moment to miscarry etc.

Went back today for the second scan expecting to be taken in this week for a d&c only to find that the sac had grown in the 10 days and there was now a yolk, fetal pole and an embryo measuring just 6 weeks. No heartbeat but she said heartbeat would kick in, if it was going to, over the next 7 days. SO basically she could not confirm that it was a miscarriage at this stage but that we would need to go back this day next week to see if there is a heartbeat. If not it will be confirmed then.

She was fairly certain that there was a problem with the development of this pregnancy and that the most likely scenario would be that it would develop this far and trail off and we would not find a heartbeat on Monday.

I just can't get my head around it all. Even if my dates were out a bit, I didn't think it was possible to be out that much.

Has anyone else ever gone through this?

I feel like my head is about to explode trying to take it all in / work it all out and another 7 days waiting stretches out in front of me..........

I was out within an hour but depends on lots of variables.

gingerbreadmam · 14/12/2014 16:51

oh thats good scarlet thanks for sharing. if i can be all done by 7 at the latest maybe i will get home to my own bed. fingers crossed.

gingerbreadmam · 14/12/2014 16:52

oh guy even better! everyone keep your fingers crossed haha. i know they wouldnt keep beds blocked if they didnt need to so hopefully everything will go well and i can go.

chubbymummy · 14/12/2014 17:51

I've just caught up with the last few days. Ginger, you've really been through the mill. I hope you're coming round from the op as I'm typing this. Sending you lots of love!
My biggest worry is that I won't have passed all the tissue. They wouldn't give me an ERPC because I've had 2 already and they are concerned that another one would cause too much damage to my womb. That's probably why they try to steer people towards waiting for a natural loss or having medical management rather than an ERPC.
I know I need to wait 3 weeks before doing a test but I did one yesterday (1 week after miscarrying) and it was very, very positive. The line came up instantly and was much darker than the control line.

gingerbreadmam · 14/12/2014 18:06

oh dear chubby thats not good. id never been offered the erpc think it is a last resort as theres still tissue which is causing massive blood loss everytime my body tried to get rid of it.

still waiting unfortunately.

there must be a reason they say three weeks wonder if its cos there could be tiny bits of tissue that will just pass without you noticing if makes sense? i know as long as theres any tissue even if its tiny your body still thinks you are pregnant.

fromwesttoeast · 14/12/2014 18:18

Sorry you are still waiting Ginger. I'm still here waiting for your post-op update. Hope it's soon.

fromwesttoeast · 14/12/2014 18:24

Chubby, that is a worry, but I think after only one week it would still be positive wouldn't it? Hopefully it's normal and not a bad sign.

chubbymummy · 14/12/2014 18:47

Hope they get you sorted soon Ginger!

Yes, I expected it to be positive but was hoping the line would be lighter as the hormones should be reducing. I'm probably just paranoid I suppose.

gingerbreadmam · 14/12/2014 18:50

i dont feel pregnant in the slightest and havent for about a month now but im guessing a test would still show pregnant from what all the midwives have said.

im still waiting, starving now ha!

Imscarlet · 14/12/2014 18:59

Bet you are glad you had that Dominos last night now eh? I was starving going in but wasn't when I came to again.

Chubby, I reckon it is probably normal to still test positive after a week, but if you are concerned you could ask them to give you a scan. While the hormones are reducing, it doesn't take very much HCG to get a positive on a pregnancy test and does it double everyday? I think it does, so it would take a good while to come down again. Hopefully it's just not dropped to a level where it would affect a test yet.

Imscarlet · 14/12/2014 19:53

Hope you've been in and out by the time you see this Ginger. Fingers crossed for you.

gingerbreadmam · 14/12/2014 19:57

so glad of the dominos. looks like might be coming home now. theyve been inundated with emergencies all day which take priority and normal surgery finishes at 10.00pm.

theyre trying to see if can do it on labour theatre now but if not will be home time. then i can come back tomo and wait all day again or try and book in for a certain day / time.

Imscarlet · 14/12/2014 20:03

Oh Ginger. I don't know what to say.

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 14/12/2014 20:20

Why can't they just book you in for tomorrow? I know they have to have space for emergencies but isn't yours pretty important by now after all you've been through and the length of time??

wonkylegs · 14/12/2014 20:36

Oh you poor thing that's horrible.

gingerbreadmam · 14/12/2014 23:58

ive been down and now back on the ward until tomo. have to have bloods done because of anaemia i alread had.

weird no1 is here to tell me anything, i have to wait until in the morning.

felt really rough when first came out but feeling pretty much normal now. thank you all for your support today!

chubbymummy · 15/12/2014 00:07

Have you had it done?

gingerbreadmam · 15/12/2014 00:21

yes all done although i dont know the outcome until ive spoken to a dr. the nurse said it will be fine though if i was brought straight to recovery.

phew! this is one of my worst fears being stuck on a ward though. im a snorer so cant really talk but can hear it from all angles. someone has their tv on and some women in flip floppy slippers keeps going for a walk lol. my own bed and mouldy little flat never seemed so good!

chubbymummy · 15/12/2014 00:27

Glad it's all done. Sorry you're stuck on the ward for the night though. Don't worry about the snoring, blame it on the General anaesthetic in the morning. Hope you get some sleep soon. If you're struggling ask the staff for something to help you drift off.

gingerbreadmam · 15/12/2014 00:55

aww ill get to sleep think im just running on adrenaline at mo. gona get laid down in a min and hopefully drift off. thank you so much.

wonkylegs · 15/12/2014 05:51

So glad they finally got you done. Hope you got off to sleep & will get home this morning.
Thinking of you.

fromwesttoeast · 15/12/2014 07:53

So glad it's all done Ginger. Yeah, hospital ward, like trying to sleep at the bus station! Never mind, you will get home and have all the time you need to rest and relax.

gingerbreadmam · 15/12/2014 09:04
