Modibodi and gender

Emilypank · 13/02/2023 20:45

I was reading another thread with regard to Modibodi and period pants. I am going through the menopause and my periods have become erratic and very heavy. I thought I’d have a look on this website and unfortunately the first thing I am greeted with is a headline. Period wear for all genders and a picture of a girl with a moustache, and a bulge in her period pants. Anyone else just fed up with this insidious movement even when having to find pants which will stop me leaking blood through my trousers or on my bed. I am a menopausal woman with heavy periods and my menopausal anger is increasing daily. Any thoughts.

So intersex people don’t even exist? My goodness the ignorance.

People with DSDs are still either male or female. You're being ignorant to use the term Intersex tbh

SirChenjins · 13/02/2023 21:08

Yep, it’s ridiculous. If you do any of the following - menstruate/take HRT/ give birth/breastfeed/go through the menopause and the perimenopause then you’re a woman.

Labelling yourself non binary has literally no biological relevance to the above.

LancashireSquirrel · 13/02/2023 21:09

OP, I read and commented on the original thread you are referring to. I also visited the Modibodi website off the back of that thread, and also couldn't believe what I was seeing. Period underwear for all genders?

The world has gone mad. Be any gender you like I don't give a toss, but only women have periods.

I agree. 0.5% of the uk population identify as a gender that isn’t their birth sex. Why is every company courting them at the expense of women??

You’re talking about 2 different things. Sex, determined shortly after conception and gender, a set of stereotypes that some people use to identify as one sex or another (or neither).

I suppose the companies that cater for all identities is just like a clothing store that caters for a range of different tastes.

SusanPerbCallMeSue · 13/02/2023 21:10

Because it's life, they are a woman. And I spent years of my life not being comfortable with it. But as a perimenopausal woman I accept I can't change it, and no amount of declaring myself non binary (which I qualify for in every bloody way of the description) is going to change it.

I have far far more important things to worry and ponder on than my gender feelz. Lucky for those non binary peeps who don't, that all they do is worry about being misgendered. What a privilege. And that's what it is, the privileged trying to be the oppressed. It's all attention seeking bollocks.

Towntroubadour · 13/02/2023 21:07

@devonianpricklypear, woman isn’t an identity though. It’s not a costume or a feeling. It’s a fact. I don’t like makeup, or high heels, I’ve never worn dresses or skirts. I don’t identify as a woman, I am one because of my biological make up.

As a biological category of course. However we still have a very limited understanding of the brain.

You never know we may see concrete physiological differences and evidence of the existence of trans-people.

MrsDooDaa · 13/02/2023 21:11

This is really disappointing. I really liked modibodi. I shall have to find a new period pants brand now.

purpledalmation · 13/02/2023 21:12

100% with you. Its beyond ridiculous, why would a man need period pants.

Woman isn’t a gender. It’s a noun that describes adult human females. Some of those women believe in gender identity. So the company is catering for the right sex, regardless as to how they identify.

DemBonesDemBones · 13/02/2023 21:12

I know lots of people that have unfollowed them in social media. I don't think their market is actually women.

This.
Most people with DSDs consider the term "intersex" extremely offensive.

It doesn't matter in the slightest what your brain looks like when future technology can (or can't) pick up physiological differences in your brain, you still won't need period pants.

Actually, we have a very good understanding of the structures and functions of the brain. So far, despite extensive research, there has been no evidence of such a thing as a ‘gendered’ brain or a ‘trans’ brain.

I thought the picture only has biological females?

StillWeRise · 13/02/2023 21:18

well we may yes
but in the meantime it's more useful to concentrate on what we definitely know to be true which is that there are 2 sexes (DSD notwithstanding) and how people feel about which sex they are is infinitely variable
I would not be giving my hard earned cash to any business that failed to understand this and promoted harmful beliefs that can lead people to hurt themselves (seen on the webpage posted above) and I would tell them so. How many customers are they prepared to alienate?

countrypunk · 13/02/2023 21:18

If you were born a woman and are comfortable with that identity

First of all, woman isn't an 'identity'. It's a biological and physical reality for 51% of the world's population. It involves periods, pain, childbirth and menopause. No, not all women go through all of these things. But only women can. And just because you experience these things, it doesn't mean you have to wear heels and love pink and grow your hair long. You can choose to break down gender stereotypes while not denying your biological sex.

When you describe woman as an identity, I think you're confusing sex and gender. Sex is biological and the basis of female oppression. Gender is made up and the tool with which women are oppressed.

I'm a woman, but I can't say I'm 'comfortable' with the gender roles forced on me because of my sex. So what does that make me, according to your ideology?

I've met a fair few 'non binary' people. They have all been, without exception, attention-seeking narcissists. And I would say gender identity ideology only serves to reinforce sexist, regressive stereotypes even further. If a person with a vagina refuses to meet society's gendered expectations of her, she's not a woman? Come on. You're really not the revolutionaries you think you are.

countrypunk · 13/02/2023 21:19
