Anyone in Cheshire/Staffordshire?

We are moving to Madeley Heath in about 4 weeks (from Tuscany) and I wondered if there was anyone local to this place and if they could fill me in on things to see and places to go.

We will be opening a restaurant there too so although I wont have much free time, it would be nice to meet some people for coffee.

Anyone out there????

philippat · 02/08/2005 21:55

I'm in Audley (only been here a couple of months though). Gotta ask collision - why? I mean obviously it's just gorgeous round here but tuscany....

potty1 · 02/08/2005 22:05

Collision - don't know Madeley Heath at all sorry.....but must ask....Tuscany to Madeley......why?

Newcastle is your nearest town, then you've Stoke-on-Trent which gets a bit complicated as the city centre is actually Hanley, which is a town in itself (are you still with me lol)....the City is made up of 6 towns. Then there's Crewe and Chester which is a beautiful place with great shopping.

Do you have children collision? How old are they?

Mumbee - I'm North of Stoke too.

mumbee · 02/08/2005 22:21

Collision Yes why Madeley Heath, where will the resturant be and what style any info?
Philippat why Stoke area for you?
Potty1 I have only been on MN three weeks so I am total new to protocol glad to see I'm not the only one is stoke

collision · 02/08/2005 22:33

Hahaha! Yes, Tuscany is beautiful but
a) Soooooooo boring and nothing for kids to do
b) We have a fine dining restaurant (DH is chef and I am front of house) but Tuscans do not understand this food and only want steak and beans which we dont do!
c) So, we have been there, done that and got the t-shirt and need to make some money now!

Lots of people want to live the dream and we have done it but it really isnt 'all that'! The weather is gorgeous but VERY hot ATM and the language is difficult and we just want to come home now!

We are opening a restaurant which will be a pub on one side serving fantastic homemade pub type food and then in the evening we will be doing a fine dining, child friendly restaurant.

We have 2 ds's....one is 3.4 and the other is 9 months.

At one point we nearly moved to Wigan and I told my Mum I was going to write a book entitled 'From Tuscany to Wigan!!' Would have been a bestseller. Then I realised I just couldnt go from Tuscany to Wigan as it would be too depressing. (Apologies to those in Wigan!!)

welcome to stoke area, My two Dd 6 in aug, Ds 4.5 yrs
you are moving to a really good part of the town close to Bridgemere Garden centre, Trentham garden centre (new experience adding and improving site and facilities), Newcastle, Nantwich, the welsh coast is not to far away and of course there is Manchester, and finally Stoke which has good shopping, muesums, theaters, and some interesting parks we hope you will love it here

For the children there is large warehouse play areas (like certain pubs with play equipment)particularly good for the youngsters

potty1 · 02/08/2005 23:11

The pub/restaurant sounds great collision - will be over to see you asap!

Mmmm what else? For the children....Alton Towers, Chester Zoo, Drayton Manor, Gullivers World, Waterworld. Loads of beautiful countryside especially my side of Stoke into the Staffs Moorlands and the Peak District. You are pretty much midway between Manchester and Birmingham too.

Mumbee - I'm in Baddeley Green.

golds · 02/08/2005 23:23

I'm in Stafford, so not too far away really, shop in Hanley quiet a bit, coming stafford way you have Cannock Chase which is very beautiful.

potty1 · 02/08/2005 23:27

Ooo golds, how could I miss out the Chase, not been for ages.

Collision - you must try out Staffordshire Oatcakes....rolled up with Bacon & Cheese, yum, yum!

golds · 02/08/2005 23:38

mumbee · 04/08/2005 09:26

hi everyone is the area was out yesterday at one of our favourite places Tittersworth Reservoir. (Went on a trip with local Zodic zone (Ds nursery connection)). Childrens play area was not to busy so the children were able to play easily we also did the nature trail and had to identify 8 trees on the trail out of ten groups doing it we took one of the prizes for identifing them all. Did not get wet so if the kids are too much there is a place to head to, do not forget the picnic though.

JulieF · 06/08/2005 00:30

Another Staffordshire lass here. Born and bred in Stoke-on- Trent, now living on the Staffs/Cheshire border in Newchapel. I must be very near to Diva.

Take a look at my website netmums for things to do and places to go. MAdely is nice as far as I can remember, used to go there for piano lessons as a child. Not too far from Newcastle-under-Lyme.

What sort of restaurant are you opening?

loupylou · 06/08/2005 17:38

We are in Silverdale, only been here a few months and would love to meet new people. Single parent of one, 2 and a half year old, i work shifts.
I'm near Madeley Heath and Audley, on outskirts of Newcastle.

loupylou · 06/08/2005 17:50

Trnetham Monkeys are great fun, £5 adults, £3.50 4-14's under 4's free, we had a great day last week. we entered by garden centre and took the boat across the lake because otherwise it's a 20min walk. The paths aren't great but are being sorted according to the signs. There's a cafe/shop at each side of the lake for snacks. It was beautiful but needs a fine day. Plenty of places to picnic.
Louise (i'm new to mumsnet)

We will be opening a fine dining restaurant on one side of the place and doing proper homemade 'pub type' food on the other.
