We are moving to Madeley Heath in about 4 weeks (from Tuscany) and I wondered if there was anyone local to this place and if they could fill me in on things to see and places to go.

We will be opening a restaurant there too so although I wont have much free time, it would be nice to meet some people for coffee.

Anyone out there????

Hello - I'm new to Mumsnet. I live in Stafford and have three kids: ds age 6; dd age 4 and ds age 3 months.

mumbee · 23/09/2005 16:02

Hi smw9927 welcome.

collision · 24/09/2005 11:20

We have now arrived in Staffordshire and the new restaurant will open next week! Have worked out where we are and I am in the library at Newcastle under Lyme.

It is so nice to be back in the UK and to do normal things again.

Let me know when we can organise a meetup somewhere.

Would be nice to meet with you all sometime

lilibet · 27/09/2005 22:19

Collision - I am from Wigan and am deeply offended by your comments about my beautiful home town!! I may just be won round by the offer of a a free years wining and dining!

Welcome back to GB and I hope all goes well for you and yours!

BTW, we Wiganers are known as 'pie eaters' becasue of our local delicacy and someone has just written a book about Wigan called "Pies and Prejuidice", which I thought was excellent!

smw9927 · 27/09/2005 23:16

Golds - I'm just off the Tixall Rd, so not too far away. We have a saeson ticket for Shugborough Park Farmif you want to meet up there - not too sure when it shuts for winter though.

Which school do your kids go to? Mine are at Leasowes.

mushypeas · 28/09/2005 13:32

Hello Collision, glad to see you got here in one piece. Where is the restaurant - is it in Madeley? And when does it open?
Just up the road - CAT me if you need any help/info/free plugs

golds · 29/09/2005 18:52

smw, my kids are too, I think I may know you, were you in the paper last week? its just that your kids ages ring a bell to me, I work at the school at lunchtimes

smw9927 · 30/09/2005 12:38

Yes - ds2 and I were in the paper after the NCT Nearly New Sale (he had his grumpy face on because the photographer was taking too long!). Not sure who you are yet - say "hello" in the playground!

marthamoo · 30/09/2005 12:57

Hi Collision, I missed this thread so I didn't know you were coming back to the UK. I don't know where Madeley Wotsit is but it can't be a million miles from me - we're Macclesfield. If we're ever in your neck of the woods I'll be popping in your pub/restaurant for my MN discount Do you do any WW food ?

golds · 30/09/2005 17:53

I just saw lower down that you are near Mow Cop. Where exactly? My mother is from this part of the world!
Wow,the Russian connection and the Staffordshire one!

moondog · 20/10/2005 15:31

Ah sorry,I've seen now. Kidsgrove!
I am imagining a glamorous trilingual Mongolian strolling round Mow Cop...what a hilarious image!!

How on earth do you understand everyone and vice versa!!

Do you like it? Is this where your dh is from?

diva4mgl · 20/10/2005 15:39

moondog · 20/10/2005 15:41

Just saying that to my dh.
When we were in Nizhny Novgorod in 98-99 and Moscow 2000-2001,it was a big thing to be going to Russia.
Now they're all over the place lol!
