hello mums,

New to mumsnet, new mum - with a 4wk DD, wondering if there were some mums out there who wanted to meet, share horror stories, chat, or generally have a moan. I do try and get out each day, but conversation with a 4 wk old baby is quite limiting.

ok that's tomorrow at 10am right??

DomsMummy · 04/12/2005 19:13

Hi everyone! Sorry for not getting in touch for ages and not meeting at bumpi's. Hope you had fun, been there today and it was manic! There was about 3 kids parties going on and two 8 yr olds we're in the toddler bit throwing balls at Dominic!! Felt like giving them a good kick but know that's unacceptable so just gave them a bit of verbal and they went red and left!

Anyway... just got back from Rome which was fab, apart from having to change hotels as ours was awful! While we were there Paul proposed so I am now a semi-honest woman! It was v. romantic! Took Dominic with us and he loved all the attention - they adore blonde children so random strangers kept coming over and kissing him, v. bizarre! He didn't seem to mind though!

Anyway would love to catch up soon so let me know if you're free to meet at Debs/Bumpi's or somewhere else.

Hope all mums & babies are ok! Seeya soon xx

madrose · 29/12/2005 12:59

hello - how are you all? Hope christmas was fab. Rome - you lucky thing - was it super and did you do any shopping?

Anyone fancy a meet-up soon?

Happy new year everyone! Christmas was very fab! Back at work today though, boo!!

Hope everyone had a wonderful break and Santa brought you lots of goodies. Dom was more interested in the wrapping paper than the toys bless him!

Rome was also great thanks MR, we were only there 2 days so didn't get much time for shopping, although I managed to buy a scarf but was a bit gutted when I got home and saw that the label said 'Made in China' on it!! We also had to change hotels after the first night as we were in the middle of ghetto land and I think our hotel doubled up as a brothel!! It was an adventure though!

Would love to meet up, family coming over this weekend but could do the following Sat(14th?) xx

madrose · 09/01/2006 21:54

Congrats on your Rome experience domsmum!! Would be nice to all meet up again as it has been awhile. Where shall we meet? Debs or bumpies? I'm happy with either.

DomsMummy · 03/02/2006 15:02

Could do next Sat if anyone's free? Debs would be good for me? x

derbymom · 06/02/2006 13:27

Hi everyone - seems such a long time since we all met up with Xmas and everything. Hope all mums and babies are OK.

Holly had German Measles just before Xmas which was really horrible and made her very ill. Even ended up in Casualty as panicked at rash. But all ok now. She started walking properly at Xmas and is now mobile and into everything.

Debs sounds good for this Sat but can we meet a bit later as struggle to get there for 10. so late morning or pm would be better for me.

madrose · 07/02/2006 21:51

G Measles - my goodness, you must have been scared, so glad that she is ok. Do mean this sat or the sat just gone??? Its late and I'm blonde. Later morning would be better for me, as we don't really get up before 9.30 (well we try not to anyway!!!!!!)

But would love to catch up, so if it is this sat - count me in.

Hi Madrose. yeah it was v nasty and holly was extremely poorly for about a week. Plus had to take time off work which p*ed employer off but tough.

This sat is good with me. Shall we say 11 - 11.30?

DomsMummy · 08/02/2006 13:35

Really sorry to hear that Holly was poorly, that must have been awful for you all. So glad she's better now, brave little thing!

See you on Sat around 11'ish xx

DomsMummy · 10/02/2006 13:21

Just a quick question to all mum's with babies at nursery. There seems to be a biting problem at Dominic's nursery. It seems that weekly he comes home with pretty severe bites on him (from other children!), on Weds he had one on his back which is really sore.

I've got a meeting with the nursery manager tonight about it but just wondered if it's a common problem in nurseries or if it's just at ours!

Also do your nurseries stick to the correct ratios? When I took him on Thurs am there was 1 staff member to 7 kids. Think it's pretty unacceptable.

madrose · 10/02/2006 18:17

11ish good for me, re ration get in touch with Ofstead ASAP.

A friend is at the nursery opposites Mads, and they had the same prob, they rang the owner who tried to fob them off, then they rang the council who told them to get in touch
with Ofstead ASAP, ofstead turned up at the nursery in a matter of days - all of a sudden there are plenty of staff!!!!! But friend is now very unpopular, but daughter is now safe. the ration for Dom's age is one staff to three children, there are no excuses that is the guidelines as laid down by ofstead and the insurance company. Re biting - are you told about this, ie do have to sign accident sheet? Also this indicates that the nursery is short staffed, it is not good enough, poor Dom, nasty children. see you tomorrow must go as Mads wants to type!!{+!!@'['['[

Thought I might have got somewhere on Friday after speaking to the Manager, however I took him this morning and they'd combined his unit (the tweenies) with the baby unit so there were approx 15 kids/babies (some of 3 months old) and 1 member of staff!!

Apparantly one of the 'tweenie' girls was running late and the other one's car had broken down so they had no other choice. I called when I got to work and all staff had arrived. Even if it was only for 5 mins I don't think that one staff member can cope with that many children.

Am definitely ringing Ofstead at lunchtime.

Sorry... rant over!!

Lovely to see you both on Sat, Dom seem to enjoy himself! Look forward to seeing you at the party! x

Wish me luck with Ofstead, feel a bit of a grass but it needs sorting! xx

derbymom · 14/02/2006 21:24

Sorry to hear that it's still no better. I've been thinking about little Dom ever since you told me. The ratio still seems unacceptable as even if the 2 people did turn up it would still be 5:1 whereas it should be 3:1. Also I don't think it's a good idea to combine the baby unit as very small babies have different needs to the older, more mobile children. It's such a shame because as a working mother you need to feel happy about where your child is, so I can really sympathise with how you must be feeling. At the end of the day though your child has to come first, regardless of who you might upset. And it's only what you pay for. I hope you get a good result from Ofsted. [smile}

I told Dawn on Sat when she told me about this that Holly came home a few times with scratches on her face. I was told about it and was told that it was unprovoked. The staff there dealt with it very quickly, informing the childs parents and excluding them for a time after they had done it. It happened about 3 times and then stopped. At the time though I was so upset to think about Holly being treated like this.

Not sure if that makes you feel better or not but I definitely would not accept it. Nice to see you on Sat. Babies are all growing so quickly... See you soon. Keep us informed.

DomsMummy · 16/02/2006 13:13

That does make me feel better, it's nice to know that someone understands what I'm going through at the moment!!

Ofsted were really helpful and approachable. The lady I spoke to was a working mother too which helped. They were appalled about the ratio and were really grateful that I'd phoned. They're going to do a spontaneous inspection over the next couple of weeks. They've also written a letter informing them that a complaint's been registered. I also received statement from them this morning which I had to sign and send back, confirming what I'd told them.

Yesterday and today there were the correct number of staff on in the morning & afternoon so they must have received the letter! They've been very quiet with me though so must have put 2 and 2 together and realised it was me. As long as treat Dominic well and he is kept safe I don't really care if they are funny with me though!

I'm going to keep an eye on things and make sure they maintain the ratio and that Dominic's happy. I don't want to move him and he is settled and has got friends there. If it doesn't improve though then I'll have no other choice.

Anyway, thanks for your support, I don't think I would have called unless I saw you two on Saturday!!

Thanks again and see you soon xx

derbymom · 23/02/2006 13:14

Good for you. I'm impressed with how Ofsted have dealt with it -that must make you feel better. Glad to hear Dom's getting on better - poor little thing. You worry aswell that they will start to replicate this behaviour and end up biting other children themselves.

See you at Maddy's party.

madrose · 24/02/2006 18:19

Hya, I'm so glad you things sorted, to be biten and the worry you must have felt must have been a nightmare. Its good that ofstead take these things seriously, and to be honest, you tried talking to them, they had chance to change, they know the rules and you have the right to insist that they are adhered too.

Mads has had this week off nursery (half term) it has been so nice to do nothing (had a hundred and one jobs to do but what the hell) - mind you she's teething (four at the top) and now I'm absolutely exhausted.

She is now walking - well she does about 5 steps at time but is gaining in confidence all the time.

hope to see you next week, love and kisses to the babies.

DomsMummy · 01/03/2006 12:58

Great news re Mads walking! It doesn't take long for them to get going once they've gained enough confidence!

Nursery is still great and think they've finally forgiven me as they were quite pleasant this morning!

It's my nieces 1st B'day today and her party on Sunday so will be a nice weekend of parties! Had lots of fun shopping for the girlies!

Look forward to seeing you all on Sat, let me know if you anything, toys etc.

Has anyone heard from Felicity? I've got her number so may give her a call tonight.

When's Mads actually B'day? If she's had it already then I hope you had a nice day!

Seeya on Sat, x's to babies! xx

DomsMummy · 10/03/2006 13:51

Lovely to see you all on Sat! Hope you managed to get your house back to it's original state MR!! It was a great party though!

Hope your cat is ok too as I caught Dominic and Holly terrorising the poor thing!!

Hope all mums & little ones are ok!

Seeya soon x
