New to Harrogate!

Having just left all the boxes stacked up in my new house, I am now sat in Starbucks as internet doesn't come till Saturday.
DD is in her new nursery and even though it is killing me when she screams when I leave, I know it's for the best.
So I'm here, in Harrogate, relocated from the big smoke to this lovely town and I don't have 1 friend here .
I welcome all responses from mums (or dads) that would like to offer me words of advice on where to go and what to do with 22month year old in and around Harrogate.

A lemon top from Pacitto's?

I went to college with a girl who's family owned Yarm funeral services.

I am only a few streets from you. Ds has a friend on your street.

pennytee · 13/03/2008 19:36

Think my DH went to school with the same girl. He has mentioned it once or twice!
He was a school in Middlesborough so probably went to school with your friend!! Wow it's like three degrees of seperation really!
Do you work??

DrNortherner · 13/03/2008 19:38

Yes I work 4 days a week in Event Management.

I went to Kirby College in Middlesbrough. The girls initials were HM. But she did have sisters I think.

What does your dh do?

Nappyzone · 13/03/2008 19:45

Hello im no from harrogate but am up near yarm and went to kirby many moons ago (am 32). Just thought id say hello though!! There is a nursery show on at the end of the month at harrogate im going to which is coincidental but irrelevant lol! Good luck!

DrNortherner · 13/03/2008 20:19

I'm nearly 32. What did you study?

pennytee · 13/03/2008 21:29

I also went to Kirby, but on MOnday evenings to do my Geography A-level and I am 31.
DH was at Acklam Grange 6th form.
I was also at Conyers 6th form.

Great tip about the Nursery show at Harrogate, may pop along to that. Will give me ideas for DD's new room.

I'm a designer and work 3 days, Mon, Tues and Wed so if you fancy meeting DrNortherner then let me know

Otherwise I will be forever walking down your street wondering who is the mumsnetter.

Do you work for a company or yourself?

Are your family in Yarm? Mine are in REdcar and Guisborough.

Hi Northerner!! You are all in my old stomping ground - I used to live on Tennyson Avenue many moons ago and my Best buddy just moved from Albert Road, right on the corner of Church Avenue. I am now on teh other side of town in Pannal but I am always up for a meet up (as long as its a Friday!!). Infact I got married in St Johns.........11 years ago......god where does the time go.

Northerner just to hijack the thread, do you work 4 full time days? I am doing 3 at the mo but my boss is keen for me to go back 4 days and am just trying to work it out in my head, first if its worth it due to the added cost of nursery (three in nursery is XXXXXXX expensive) and when my DTs go to school next year, what that will mean with before/after school clubs etc......

bettythebuilder · 14/03/2008 11:06

Hello, I'm in Harrogate too, and always up for a meet up.

Dd's at school now, so I'm not up to speed on playgroups, etc, but I used to go to the one on a tuesday at St Marys church hall (off cold bath road) which was v. good.

Starbeck baths is good for swimming lessons (pool is old and charmingly victorian but is clean and warm), also doesn't usually have a waiting list.

DrNortherner · 14/03/2008 14:52

Hi Betty!!

Harrogatemum no I don't work 4 full days - I do 1 full day and teh other 3 are 9am - 3pm. I think 4 full days with 3 kids would be alot.

Could you compromise? Even leaving at 3pm on 1 day would make a huge differemce.

HarrogateMum · 14/03/2008 15:36

hmmm you are probably right. Will have to think about whether the extra cash makes it worth it!

mrspnut · 14/03/2008 16:14

Penny - I have sent my friend your email address and told her to get in touch.
Hopefully I'll see her soon as well, I'm trying to persuade her to come down and visit me during the easter holidays.

pennytee · 14/03/2008 19:55

Hi guys,

Glad that those of you in Harrogate are keen for a meet-up.

Thanks mrspnut for doing that.

It seems like an odd way to find friends but I suppose without going to school in the area and not having a new born (how I met all my mummy friends in London), this is a good way to find like-minded people.

Regardless of how confident you are, it's always quite nerve racking putting yourself out there.

Anyone who fancies timeout for a coffee feel free to let me know your availabilities. As I said before I have work three days a week but weekends and Thurs and Fri are the days we'll be out exploring Harrogate.

Feel sorry for me, I'm currently typing this to you while sat on a train from London on a Friday evening. Keen to be back to un pack all those boxes, realising why I left London in the first place!

OP posts:
HarrogateMum · 14/03/2008 20:20

pennytee I am usually around Fridays, maybe we should sort a meet up now?

pennytee · 14/03/2008 20:58

Fridays are good for me.

How old are your DT's, may be good to meet in a kid friendly environment if they all DC's are in tow???

OP posts:
HarrogateMum · 14/03/2008 21:05

they are 3 and MANIC! So yes, agreed, good to go to soft play, or a park etc!

pennytee · 14/03/2008 21:12

If the weather picks up and it's not blowing gale force, then I would love to check out Valley Gardens.
If you are over in Pannal then somewhere easy for you.

Just have the one and she is manic also, when she get's going!

I'm good on Friday afternoons - although, from the 11th, I'll be in Harrogate for swimming on Friday mornings, so would be available from about 11.15/11.30... It would be good to meet up, occaisional meet ups in Leeds but haven't been on a day that I can make... (Have very energetic ds, 2.10)

bettythebuilder · 14/03/2008 22:53

I work for myself from home,so I think I can give myself a friday off
Dd is at school, so I will be without sprog if it's term time.

DrNortherner · 15/03/2008 08:40

Well I may com etoo then as I don't work Fridays. I'll be sprog free as ds will be at school - Betty we can sit and sip hot chocolate smugly and watch everyone else deal with wayward toddlers

HarrogateMum · 15/03/2008 08:48

erm hello, Betty will be manhandling my boys to the ground when they run off, she will deffo not be sitting smugly drinking hot choc (if I have anything to do with it anyway.......)

lulalullabye · 15/03/2008 08:49
