So who is listening out for George Michael tonight then?

pavlovthecat · 19/06/2007 20:02

Funnily enough it was Nikki but she lives in Bristol!

Bideford - Dp's opinion - it is a bit of a backwater, the locals are 'odd', and there is a heroin problem there (thats prob where I heard the bad stuff about it). He actually says if you want this area at all he would recommend Barnstable, when I said 'really?' He has just said, 'I would personally avoid that area entirely, I cant think of anywhere worse, apart from Torrington!' does that help?

pavlovthecat · 19/06/2007 20:04

DP is chuckling at where to build a house, as he wants to do it too, but has not even considered where he would do it

Lol at Ms Organisation as I am sat here typing amongst a sea of paperwork!!

Next time I'm in Plymouth, I will let you all know and hopefully we can meet up in Central park - that's walking distance from my mum's house so great for me.

Typical....tpyical...thread livens up as soon as I come back to Bristol!!

pavlovthecat · 19/06/2007 20:32

LOL Nikki - when u back? We might have to meet for a go on the wings before you get back nikki?! If the weather breaks...

NikkiBFG · 19/06/2007 20:35

I don't know yet actually...trying to sort out my twunting work....giving me 7 kinds of hell about flexible working but I won't bore you with that!

I am sure you are all waiting for me to post as to when I will next be in Plymouth with baited breath...I expect a red carpet too!!

tinytotmummy · 19/06/2007 20:37

Second plymouth thread I've come across today! Listening out for George Michael tonight, heard some rehearsal stuff earlier when taking DS to school.

pavlovthecat · 19/06/2007 20:37

Loopy - west Devon is good, around plymouth, towards the moors, towards kingsbridge. The villages around Yelverton/Tavistock are absolutely great, and from those I know who live there/have lived there are not too cliquey. There is plenty of space so a self build could be a possibility in these areas to. I really like that part of Devon.

Or Around Moretonhampstead/Chagford that kind of way, althougb Chagford itself is very expensive indeed, maybe towards exeter?

pavlovthecat · 19/06/2007 20:38

tinytot - another plymouth thread?
...where is the other one?

Hello!

NikkiBFG · 19/06/2007 20:38

Yes we had our ear out for Elton John as we were in Plymouth when he was playing...well, when I say we, DH really as I don't hear much with my hearing prob!!! lol!!

Hmm..George Michael....surely you shoud be listening for him as you walk past public toilets though...not Central Park.....

pavlovthecat · 19/06/2007 20:39

Nikki - if the traffic is bad, we shall presume he fell asleep on route at the traffic lights outside the stadium...

NikkiBFG · 19/06/2007 20:40

Oooh Loopsy - have you considered Callington? Its beautiful around there and the schools there are excellent - I can vouch for all that as lil'sis is a teacher at one of the schools there

She's always saying great stuff about Callington

NikkiBFG · 19/06/2007 20:40

Pav -pmsl!!!!

pavlovthecat · 19/06/2007 20:43

Callington good ...yes, I agree I have heard good things too. It is cornwall, but v close to tavistock and civilisation

NikkiBFG · 19/06/2007 20:44

I've been there -really really nice....and obv fact my sis teaches there does give the area an extra kudos.....

NikkiBFG · 19/06/2007 20:52

I like Princetown but my Mum refused to live there when I was a child and they were looking at moving because "it rains every day". Not quite, but it is pretty exposed and isolated! Busy with walkers etc in the summer though. Heaving really.

Okehampton has a bit more going on.

How about Tavistock? I really like Tavistock.

lol thats a start! narrowed down somewhat then . What areas?
Gess - I actually like pricetown too! And given that I work with criminals, i could get a job in Dartmoor - walk to work. In reality, its safe to live near prisons, like Dartmoor! Escape is impossible, and not really attempted as the prisoners have nowhere to go! Its a beautiful area.

Loopy-Jenski - I can meet on tuesday in the park with my dd.

pavlovthecat · 21/06/2007 07:56

Loopy - Sorry just saw the 6 areas
Princetown - I like it. We have considered moving there, on the grounds that it is still 'relatively' affordable. Its a great place, but it has Dartmoor situated right in the heart of it. I personally would not let that put you off looking into it more. Its right in the middle of Dartmoor,is beautifully located and I have heard good things about the community spirit. Given its location is is pretty safe and crime free! Many locals work in and around the area so you may find are prison related, but I dont know that for sure.
Lifton - dont know much about, sorry
Okehampton - I personally dont like it very much, its a bit grey.
Launceston - quite remote. from my work perspective, there is a bit of drug circle there, however I am biased in that, I work with drug users so they all live somewhere! (however, I think it may be more noticable in a small commninity) and I dont know what amount of the population they make up. Has a nice pasty shop! Its in Cornwall, so you wont get me saying lots of encouraging words. Dont get me wrong, I absolutely love Cornwall, to visit, to stay, am getting married there, but it is very remote from anywhere, and can feel quite desolate, especially in winter. Launceston is beautiful tho.
Coldridge - dont know much about.
