Fubsy · 05/05/2007 21:31

I dont live in Plymouth but I do work there, including Mondays sadly. Ive never been to a meet up, but like the idea of it.

If anyone fancies a friday meet, I could do it?

gess · 05/05/2007 21:34

I'm in Plymouth, but meet ups can be tricky.....

PavlovtheCat · 05/05/2007 21:36

Gess - dont be afraid...I for one do not own a Nova...
Sorry, if I have just offended anyone who might meet, who might own a Nova

PavlovtheCat · 05/05/2007 21:37

Nikki - am I still invited if I say that

i am in fact a grockel?

gess · 05/05/2007 21:38

Oh I'm not afraid, they're just tricky because of other committments ( can't really do meet ups with ds1, but then non-ds1 time is fully booked iyswim).

PavlovtheCat · 05/05/2007 21:40

you could...perhaps..free up some Mn time?

gess · 05/05/2007 21:40

I MN when I'm working!

PavlovtheCat · 05/05/2007 21:45

hehehe!

I am sure we could figure something out...

I, technically, work too. But may be off work when Nikki is coming down...do you have 'any' spare time? We could fit around you a bit...

Nikki - was it 14th you said?

Nikki76 · 05/05/2007 22:44

Just managed to wrestle the PC away from DH! He's a bit that I've mumsnetted all evening this week and he hasn't got a chance to do some tecchie stuff to the laptop!

I'm actually in Plym on the eve of the 12th but Sun is a lunch for my dear Grandad's birthday so 14th onwards is good for me!

What is a grockle????

Bristol is good to live in - very cosmopolitan, lots of nice places to eat out etc but I think its rough in places - gun crime on the up etc....am paranoid about security - drives DH nutz when I want the window open but 'locked in place' in the summer!!! lol!!

OP posts:
PavlovtheCat · 05/05/2007 23:01

Nikki - lol, not much different to plymouth, maybe its the plym influence creeping in!

Grockel - someeone from outside of Devon. A stranger to these lands! I am from London originally, went to uni in plymouth and stayed. I then left, was told that plymouth always drags you back whether you like it or not. It has a pull, once you been here you just end up coming back. I was told that by several people, said what a pile of nonsense.

Then, in Exeter, could not afford to buy, moved in with friends to save money to buy a place...In plymouth. Then realised, I am back here!

Nikki76 · 05/05/2007 23:10

I would like to move back actually as I hate not having family here in Bristol. Was fine when DH and I were carefree things and dined out, socialised loads but now we have DS, we tend to gravitate to family more! Just waiting for a role to come up at Derriford that would match the role DH does now.....

My sis and hubby stayed last night....were sooo keen to see DS and help out, they were actually sat up in bed at 6.30am waiting for me to bring DS into them for a morning cuddle/play on the bed! Bless! They ordered me to go back to bed after he'd been fed - how sweet was that!! I'm so lucky that they love him so much!

The only thing I don't like about Plymouth, is lack of good places to eat out - am a bit of a foodie and pretty fussy!!

OP posts:
PavlovtheCat · 05/05/2007 23:19

oh, but you know about holbeton and Yealmton? And a couple of places on the barbican recently there? Some good places to eat in plymouth now...

Of course is always Artillary Tower. My fave place. First place I went with Dp, he proposed to me there too, and I had my graduation meal there!

Nikki76 · 05/05/2007 23:21

Haven't heard of the tower place...mmm....

Where would you like to meet if we did do a meet up then? May as well get the place sorted out, even if we have no date, no time and ermm...no one else atm!!! lol!!!!

OP posts:
Tigana · 05/05/2007 23:23

Lots more eaty places in plymouth recently with all the development and aiming for the 'young professional' market who want to buy apartments overlooking the barbican etc. There is more to Plymouth than Bella Napoli, Barbican Pasta and that fricking chinese on North Hill now!

Nikki76 · 05/05/2007 23:32

Oooh - where?

OP posts:
PavlovtheCat · 05/05/2007 23:36

Tigana - I agree! Some good places now.

Nikki - tigana - what do you like? Apart from Far Tin! (thats the one right Tig?)

I am happy with anything that is not
a) Hoggs Head
b) Union Rooms
c) that place on the barbican, whats it called?
d) Yates

Are we doing evening or dayime...ie coffee or beer?

PavlovtheCat · 05/05/2007 23:37

we could go Cap'n jaspers. Do a good burger and a coffee for less than a fiver!
Good after a night clubbing imo!

Nikki76 · 05/05/2007 23:39

I can do evening or daytime as my mum will babysit DS for me....am easy....

Pavlov - we have the same taste it seems!I wouldn't choose any of those places either!!

My sis told me a Bar Ha Ha has just opened up in Plymouth...we have one in Bristol and it does good pub food at good prices - any thoughts??

What about Greggs or Mcdonalds??? Ivor Dewneys....

OP posts:
Tigana · 05/05/2007 23:39

Ok

There is Souk - moroccan place on Barbican
JoinedUpWhiting - fish place also Brabican
(both on 'other' side of barbican, not the pubby side IYKWIM.
Bar One or something - posh, expensive, supposed to be nice
Zucca - slightly poncey (imo) place in newish apartements overlooking marina on barbican
BED (our personal favourite - it isn't gourmet, just good, generous damn tasty food)

Nikki76 · 05/05/2007 23:40

I've heard goooood things about Souk!

OP posts:
Tigana · 05/05/2007 23:41

we went to Cap'n Jaspers on our wedding night - it's expanding you know.

Bar Ha Ha isn't too child friendly IME, won't warm bottles, won't let children in after about 4pm, won't let children even in their garden in the evening etc.

Nikki76 · 05/05/2007 23:44

I suppose the venue depends on whether its a meet up with the DCs in tow or an evening thing with no DCs...

That pasta place on the Barbican is shite!

OP posts:
PavlovtheCat · 05/05/2007 23:46

Ba HAHA wont warm bottles? what? sod em then!

Bistro Benes - very nice, very posh!

You cant beat tho, Platters. Best fish n chips for miles, £5.00 lunch menu, wonderful. Go there all the time. Bit crowded for kids but they weclome us each time we go, not bothered by children!

PavlovtheCat · 05/05/2007 23:47

oh there is the japanese one on Notte Street to, not been there myself but heard good things, they do saki and sushi..

Tigana · 05/05/2007 23:47

we used to go to Barbican Pasta quite a bit when we were students - big portions, cheap prices, good enough food.
