So that Uwilalalalala doesn't get offended by us bookworms - or would like to be bookworms if we had the time...

Mellow

Who has your two chinese books, which I was going to borrow after them? Do you remember?

You can borrow the other three Andrea Levy's as they are all great and fairly short

sfxmum · 08/02/2007 11:03

i have the Chinese books but would not recommend if emotional i welled up a few times

off to play in snow will post list later

foxabout2pop · 08/02/2007 11:14

sfx - if they make me cry, that's good !!

Did you enjoy them though?

I enjoy a good cry sometimes (as long as its not at work )

sfxmum · 08/02/2007 19:56

foxie - i enjoyed the books a lot one is quite short which i loved and the other is a trilogy. they read like a family saga with a very particular voice, almost like the speech catches the rhythm of the native tongue. also has feminist sensibilities i feel.
gosh did not mean to go on like that

i have your Julian Barnes which i would like to keep a little longer please no time for it yet.
i can bring the short detective thing and maybe a saucy thing or too

not sure what else people might fancy will look around
i was given lots of chic lit at christmas for some reason so if anyone fancies it let me know

foxabout2pop · 09/02/2007 06:37

SFX - they both sound good.

Julian Barnes is great so I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

You could bring some chick lit too - have you read any of them yet?

mellow2 · 09/02/2007 14:01

Sfx,
You're exactly right abotu Pearl S Buck's books! She writes her books with a Chinese "voice". She reflects the Chinese point of view and in particular the plight of the feminine in olden Chinese society. I think it's because she grew up in China and spoke the language.

I'm very impressed you got through the trilogy because I got tired of it by the time I got to the last book and just raced to the end.

sfxmum · 09/02/2007 20:24

mellow - i am grateful for being introduced to PSB got quite interested in her life too.

chick lit
the rise an fall of the yummy mummy - Polly Williams (why bil gave me this i do not know)

distant images - Audrey Howard(lancashire family saga)

the mathematics of love - Emma Darwin

the thirteenth tale - Diane Setterfiel

know nothing of these books/ authors but if any of you fancy them you are welcome

as i am studying for an exam my time to read is limited so not sure if will pick up anything this time too tempting, and i have a backlog

mellow2 · 09/02/2007 20:43

sfx,
I'm chick lit addict so I'm happy to borrow your chick lit.

foxabout2pop · 09/02/2007 22:05

Had anyone else claimed the chinese books i.e. to borrow them next?

I am having a humour bypass atm so the chick lit may go straight over my grumpy head

mellow2 · 10/02/2007 12:41

foxie,
I think the chinese books are yours next. Let's hope tonight's dinner will cheer you up.

pudding77 · 10/02/2007 13:51

I won't be able to make this after all. I'll return borrowed books as soon as I can

foxabout2pop · 10/02/2007 15:21

Puds - don't worry just a shame you can't come.

Mellow you can tell me about those books tonight!

I have two Kate Atkinsons: Museum and Emotionally Wired - anyone interested?

MrsBigD · 13/02/2007 08:15
