So that Uwilalalalala doesn't get offended by us bookworms - or would like to be bookworms if we had the time...

paddle - thanks for the emails. am so seriously thinking about this... and i love propertyfinder too! . quokka when is the glitter party? you ok? hope you are all well. uwila; bet you can't wait to go to work on monday lol

Paddlechick666 · 08/12/2006 16:53

nanou, no prob. i can always be tempted away from work by emails or MN or property hunting. was perusing sales today and there's a houseboat on duck walk for something like £260k - that is my dream!

technically we could raise that but seriously could i consider a house boat with a toddler!

Paddlechick666 · 08/12/2006 16:57

we need to start thinking about that childsplay cafe in gunnersbury again.

seems we've all got something we could contribute.

seriously................

Nanou1 · 08/12/2006 16:59

paddle - got to go... was exactly thinking about gunnersbury cafe again this afternoon. my mind has been racing with ideas.... we could all contribute indeed! speak monday!

snowfallatxmasmum · 10/12/2006 12:17

pud how you getting on with the vampire executioner?managed to slip the newest one in dh's amazon order

can't wait for summer when we can have a picnic in the park for our bookswaps

MrsBojangles · 10/12/2006 16:02

sort of started my first book last night, but so shattered I fell asleep

Babysitting for a friend tomorrow night though so might get 2h solid reading in

OP posts:
Paddlechick666 · 10/12/2006 16:57

i'm getting half hour on state of the union at bedtime but i was on that before the swap!

mrsb, i never knew you were so available for babysitting! i've got my nanny coming back for 8pm tomorrow eve.

d'you think it's ok to offer a couple of quid less for babysitting than the usual hourly nanny rate she gets? after all, we're doing bath and bed so dd should be asleep and stay that way going on the last couple of months at least.

picnic in park sounds great sfx........... kew was bitter today.

snowfallatxmasmum · 10/12/2006 17:35

i thought Kew would be pretty cold today, yesterady at least had the virtue of being sunny.dh has been spending more time with dd today as i desperatly try to meet my deasline tonight. still i managed a bit of a jog this morning
and PC hope all goes ok tomorrow night

MrsBojangles · 10/12/2006 17:52

PC if dh is home I'm happy to babysit And yes defo would pay less for babysitten than normal nanny rate

OP posts:
Paddlechick666 · 10/12/2006 19:56

we really need to work on a babysitting circle i think..........

btw mrsb, that stairgate would be great. i'll buy off you tho unless you guys are "going again" so i could loan it!!!

sfx, it was lovely and a bit stormy so quite dramatic. dd loved the lights on the carousel. i got her some reigns now and she's getting the hang of toddling along without holding my hand.

she's been so cute today!

thanks for the good lucks! dh says he's really looking forward to seeing us so all things are crossed!

ps: unfortunately i feel like death warmed up with one of those funny colds that makes you shivery and your nose and throat tingly and very sneezy but not a sore throat and not really blocked up...............

hope it's gone by tomorrow!

MrsBojangles · 10/12/2006 20:25

PC the gate is yours... we're definitely not 'going again'... 2 lo's is defo bl**dy well enough!

Me think there is a bug going around. Have had the tingly throat, sneezy bug for a week and now starting on a chesty cough. So who gave it to me I wonder? probably dd... she picks up sniffles at school and I come down with the full blown version of whatever it is... argh! I hate winter!

Paddlechick666 · 10/12/2006 20:42

mrsb, that's cool. we'll discuss on weds then!

i am consoling myself with the fact that dd was asleep before 7:30pm and some rather decadent chocs!

i am making calendars and a memory book for xmas presents otherwise i'd be asleep by now i think!

pudding77 · 11/12/2006 18:44

hi everyone, how are you all?

Sfx - finished the first one. Wasn't too bad actually, just perfect for a read before bed! Though the last few nights, I've been so tired I've been falling asleep whilst reading!

Just started on Job now (thanks Paddle) as it was the first book I found when I opened one of the boxes!

mellowchristmas · 12/12/2006 22:03

Hi foxie,

I've just finished "I'm not Scared". I really liked it. I only realised when I started reading that all your books are in pristine condition. I'm going to do my utmost to keep them that way!

mellowchristmas · 13/12/2006 21:27

Hi foxie,

I just read Minaret. It was really interesting reading for me. While I had a really hard time when we first moved here, it was an eye opener to read about a Sudanese political asylum's experiences.

harktheheraldfoxessing · 14/12/2006 08:50

Mellow - I'm glad you liked both books . Minaret really made me think about the experiences of Muslim women here, and all migrants in fact. I'm not scared was quite creepy wasn't it?

Am very impressed with your speed reading!!!

I think we should try and meet up again maybe mid-Feb, before I pop. That would give people a chance to read some of their stash of books. ps don't worry about the condition of the books - they're there to be read

mellowchristmas · 14/12/2006 08:59

Talking about creepy books, has anyone read Lovely Bones? That really creeped me out.

harktheheraldfoxessing · 14/12/2006 09:02

Mellow - I started it but found it a bit, er, well creepy. I always find it very difficult reading books about children dying, for reasons of mummy hormones!!

mellowchristmas · 14/12/2006 09:08

Yes, I read that before I was pg and I sat there sobbing for a good 10 mins! Then because I'm a bit of a masochist, I read her other book about her RL rape trauma and that was much worse.

That's why I read chick lit most of the time 'cos I'm so easily traumatised.

harktheheraldfoxessing · 14/12/2006 09:12

mellow - while we're being masochistic have you read Child in Time by Iain McEwan? Its about a trendy Gaurdian reading guy, who pops out on Sunday morning for the papewrs and a french stick with his five year old daughter, and manages to lose her ? Its very haunting and I think of it each time mine run off in the supermarket!!

mellowchristmas · 14/12/2006 09:21

Yes, I read that and it makes me very nervous at supermarket checkout counters, worrying that someone is going to walk off with dd in the pram while I'm bagging the shopping!

I'm sure I'll be worse when dd can run off when I'm at checkout!

Paddlechick666 · 14/12/2006 09:26

morning!

i read teh Lovely Bones but can't remember it now. or actually maybe i picked it up but didn't buy it.

god i am soo flakey these days!

half way thru State of The Union and enjoying it.

am thinking about starting The Bell Jar next but a friend has freaked me out about it and warned me it might really upset me so..........

mid-feb meet would be good. i think i need something uplifting and feel good. maybe some travelogues to soothe my itchy feet!

pudding77 · 14/12/2006 09:28

I really liked Lovely Bones, thought it was good even if it did make me cry!

Am currently enjoying Job again!

harktheheraldfoxessing · 18/12/2006 11:42

Have just finished The Handmaids Tale and really enjoyed it!

Started Coastliners now and enjoying that too.

MrsBojangles · 20/12/2006 10:50
