Here's the general chit-chat thread for October

Synopsis please on what I've missed last week! Too pre-occupied for various reasons to wade through all threads. Thanks

my friend swears by dipro as well. I sometimes get patches like that, usually when run down or stressed, don't laugh but honey helps! Oilatum or any of those showergels that 'promise' lotion/moisture etc. make my skin worse!

foxinbubblesletsmaketrouble · 17/10/2006 22:25

I used to use Clinique eye cream round my eyes at £22 for a tiny tub, until I met this 72 year old woman with the most lovely skin. She swears by Diprobase as an eye moisturiser. I've been using it for about 5 months and its deffo as good as Clinique

Young and attractive looking fox

unhallowed · 18/10/2006 09:11

Thanks foxie. I'll be picking up some Dipro later today.

MrsBigD - how do you apply honey on the patch? Do you just dab honey on the patch straight from the jar?

aka unmellow

MrsBeDreadingTrickOrTreat · 18/10/2006 09:13

unhallowed, yes that's basically it a bit sticky but for me it works. if it's the face I sometimes make a mask with greek yoghurt and honey 50:50 mix

sfxmum · 18/10/2006 09:33

good morning
beauty tips, i think the ols folk low tech solutions were pretty effective.
i am just peeved that at nearly 40 i still get spots i am sure its hormonal but it is really annoying

unhallowed · 18/10/2006 12:57

Hmmmmm, this yoghurt and honey mixture is really scrumptious. If it doesn't work for my face, I think I'm going to eat the whole lot.

Boowila · 18/10/2006 13:21

Unhallowed, where do you find Eucerin in the UK?

oxo, Brula is a fab restaurant. Didn't know they had an upstaris. But, that's a fab idea for November. Let's pick a date for November and book it.

Remeber that the Mumsnet meet-up is on Nov. 18, so avoid that weekend. PEOPLE, NAME DATES YOU CAN NOT MAKE.....

unhallowed · 18/10/2006 13:33

Boo wila,

You can get Eucerin in Boots.

pumpkinpud · 18/10/2006 13:34

I'm pretty much free in November but could I make a request? I know I'm a newbie here but thought I'd try - is it possible to do it on a Friday or is that generally out of the question? The reason I ask is that I can then get dh to get up on Sat am and I can drink away without having to think about the 6.30 am wake up call!

Boowila · 18/10/2006 13:34

I obviously haven't looked very hard.

Boowila · 18/10/2006 13:37

I prefer Fridays too. I get up for work at 5:00 (on a good day) so can't really hang out with the drinkers (and lead them astray) on a Thursday night.

How about 03 or 10 November (both Fridays)?

MrsBeDreadingTrickOrTreat · 18/10/2006 13:50

3rd November probably better as not so close to the big weekend bash

FiziWhiziLetsGetScary · 18/10/2006 14:09

you can get Eucerin in most pharmacies not just Boots. You can get it 3% or 5%.

On the dry skin issue I also use Doublebase which is fab but best get on prescription as it's not cheap.

I also use hemp based products from a company online called Serf To Surf which are fabulous.

As for November dates, 3rd is prob best for me.

FiziWhiziLetsGetScary · 18/10/2006 14:10

what's teh big weekend bash?

MrsBeDreadingTrickOrTreat · 18/10/2006 14:14

The mumsnet christmas party in town

FiziWhiziLetsGetScary · 18/10/2006 14:22

oooh nice! who's going then?

2Cute · 18/10/2006 14:28

I won't be able to make meet-ups for first two weeks of Nov as I'll be in New York but feel free to have fun without me No guilt trip intended

MrsBeDreadingTrickOrTreat · 18/10/2006 14:32

Fizwhiz mn xmas meetup

Haven't heard re the job yet will send them reminder around 17:00

Boowila · 18/10/2006 14:36

Oh, New York. You too can bring back the esteemed Playtex Sippy cups.

I forgot to get smore ingredients when I was in Chicago. Damn damn damn. Oh well, next time...

Mumsnet X-mas meet-up is in London at a place called Ruby's on the 18th. Some of us are going and getting a hotel as we will no doubt be too sloshed to get on a train home.

Speaking of which Medelea, are you spending the night? I need confirmation.

2Cute · 18/10/2006 14:50

I've been totally lost with these posts about sippy cups...what am I missing out on

What ingredients?

MrsBeDreadingTrickOrTreat · 18/10/2006 14:51

sippi cups are brilliant drinking cups for little ones only available in the US

Boowila · 18/10/2006 14:55

Playtex Sipster

Buy them at Walgreens or anywhere that sells baby stuff.

2Cute · 18/10/2006 14:59

I have lots of different kiddy cups at home but not these!

Boowila - let me know what ingredients you need and I'll have a look while I'm out there.

Anyone been to NYC with a toddler? Any tips would be great.

Boowila · 18/10/2006 15:07

Bring layers and be prepared for all weather. When I went to Chicago last week I arrived in beautiful sunny 15 degrees. And 5 days later I woke up to snow. Snow I tell ya!! In mid October?!?!?

If you bring a pram make it a cheapo one that you won't miss if the airline ruins it.

Be prepared for massive security queue at Heathrow. Wasn't too bad in Chicago.

FiziWhiziLetsGetScary · 18/10/2006 15:33

we were scheduled to go to NY before Xmas but it's all been cancelled in favour of a trip to NZ in March.

I put a thread up on Travel Long Haul and got quite a bit of info. Also used craigslist for info on places to stay etc.

I'm very jealous of you!

I got a great cup for dd from www.tommeetippee.co.uk/shop/products/easiflow-insulated-12-months.htmlTomeeTippee except it's not insulated and it said from 18 months on it.

dd is 12 months next week and loves it, she's only ever been bf or had a doidy cup. i've never had a spill yet. got it in tesco.
