A few degenerates seem to have the idea that some of us would for some reason once again want to get together for some drink and inane chatter somewhere in London sometime around Christmas.....

So with that in mind the date of 29 November is being paddled around.

Grin and Wine and much fun to be had!

EVERYONE welcome.

Can I come? Am very shy/ anti_ social but need to work on it. I live in SE London so am happy to meet anyone at a station and escort them to venue.

You4coffee · 02/11/2014 22:39

Feeling bit apprehensive but think I'm in...

Coming from se London too andy

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/11/2014 11:13

Andy if you want to meet me from charing cross I will be grateful !!!!

Limited did send me instructions 'gulps' but if with someone else then would prefer it

Hope we don't eat any 'tainted meat' Bob pmsl

Tropicalchancer · 03/11/2014 11:21

Right this all sounds lovely! I've never done a meet up before! All the nerves ;)

I shall make a badge!
I'm not able to get there till a bit later as I don't finish work until 5 I'm coming into fenchurch st-anyone else?

cardamomginger · 03/11/2014 12:13

I'll be a late arriver!

Flingmoo · 03/11/2014 13:59

Anyone coming from Sussex direction?

Oh, and the badge thing - what's the protocol, do we just make our own little badge with our username on or do we get something from the official mumsnet store?

I am a bit nervous about travelling all the way back on my own. Maybe I should book a hotel room?

Flingmoo · 03/11/2014 14:02

If no-one else would be coming from Sussex direction maybe I could meet the SE Londoners somewhere along the way instead? I'd be going to Victoria. Or is that miles away from you guys (my London geography is terrible... I'm a proper day tripper)

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/11/2014 15:02

Limited said its not far from charing cross

Have no idea where cx is in relation to Victoria

Badges - there is a company that make them. Someone normally does an order - but I shall dig out mine from last year

limitedperiodonly · 03/11/2014 15:18

It's about 3 - 5 mins walk from Victoria Station but about 30 mins walk from Charing X, so you need to get two tubes from there, which sounds complicated but isn't. It would probably take 20- 25 minutes.

If it's too complicated we can rethink

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/11/2014 15:22

I'm a brave blonde !!! I will manage it 'gulps'

Maybe I will try and come in to Victoria ..........

Flingmoo · 03/11/2014 15:38

Ooh, close to Victoria, that helps for me! I really have no excuses now as I can get a direct train :) Right, I've now got less than a month to train my bottle refusing 5 month old to take milk from a bottle/cup/other receptacle which is not a boob...

whattodoforthebest2 · 03/11/2014 16:56

I'm coming into Victoria from Surrey and happy to meet anyone coming in that direction.

Also, just checked, the 24 bus goes from outside Charing X station to Victoria and on to Pimlico, so I think it'll pass more or less outside the venue Smile.

limitedperiodonly · 03/11/2014 17:19

The 24 stops almost outside the restaurant but I'm not sure whether you can pay cash on buses any more. I'll try to find out. It would be a good one to get because it's a few minutes' walk from Charing Cross either into Trafalgar Square or a tiny bit longer into Whitehall - which are easy to find - and it's a really nice route through Parliament Square

whattodoforthebest2 · 03/11/2014 17:21

I don't think you can pay cash on buses, but if you're getting a one day off peak travelcard, that covers the train and any buses/tubes you want to take.. I think.

limitedperiodonly · 03/11/2014 17:23

Payment on buses

A contactless card or a one-day Travelcard work. Is that any good? I don't know how contactless cards work. They're debit cards with a ))) type symbol on, aren't they? Perhaps someone can tell me Wink

limitedperiodonly · 03/11/2014 17:24

Or even (((

plumstone · 03/11/2014 17:29

Hi, sorry to jump onto this, but is it too late to come along????? should like to do embarrassed face - but a haven't cracked smiley list yet. I would be coming via Victoria and am happy to meet anyone there!

You're on the list Plumstone Smile

Goes for a lie down and gin

limitedperiodonly · 03/11/2014 18:00

Of course not, plumstone.

Do we still want to do About Thyme at 1pm? If so, I'm happy to reserve the space this week. They don't need a deposit but ask if we could confirm -ish numbers by the Wednesday or Thursday morning before so they know how much food to order.

We have to get out by 5.30pm. If lots of people can't make that we can do dinner, possibly 7.30pm might suit. Leave by 11ish. Latecomers can be accommodated, it seems, and they can just drink or order things from the starter menu. In fact, anyone can do that.

Otherwise we can choose somewhere else. I can do either. Just have a vote and the majority will rule.

I'm not much of an organiser, in fact, the last thing I organised was my wedding, which was over 20 years ago and apart from my dress, shoes, minimal flowers, photographers and invitations (which had an embarrassing typo) I left most of that to DH.

But as there doesn't seem to be too much organising to be done here, I don't mind giving it another go. I will not be the Mistress Of The Official Calculator, though. I will be the person who opens her purse drunkenly like it's full of forrin money and goes: 'So how many magic beans do you want?'

Just don't blame me if you don't like it. Adulation and a public holiday in my name would be acceptable if you do Wink

plumstone · 03/11/2014 18:05

Yay! Super excited, I can do any time any and will go with the flow and am more than happy to meet anyone at Victoria, no idea where the place is exactly, but getting list in a group is always fun!! :)

limitedperiodonly · 03/11/2014 18:10

Oh, we do need to decide by tomorrow evening, because I said on Saturday that I'd be back by Wednesday.

It's a big group. Lunchtime isn't a problem atm because we can have the big room. If it's dinner, they can just about squeeze everyone in.

But it's popular and I need to book by Wednesday.

whattodoforthebest2 · 03/11/2014 18:12
Grin

I can do either too. It sounds as if some can only do lunch and some can only do 5-6 onwards... not sure what to suggest. About Thyme looks nice but some won't be able to do it if we have to be out by 5.30.

Wondering if there's anywhere else the die-hards and late arrivals can go on to nearby - or is that too complicated?

whattodoforthebest2 · 03/11/2014 18:20

There's a pub called the Prince of Wales a few doors along from the restaurant -

(Disappearing off on a tangerine here...)

Tell me to shut up if this is a bad idea Smile
