usually they come into a light sleep after 30-40min and the trick is to get them to go back to sleep themselves

YanksUponThames · 27/09/2006 19:26

quokka ooohh, handmade cookies you want then?? hmpf. I can do that. Except I haven't really managed to bother about jam sandwich ones as yet. I do chocolate chip ones and snickerdoodles quite well, but haven't yet practiced on very many other recipes yet. Can't be bothered to bake very damn often - but whenever I do bother, the cookies are great and I want to keep doing it, but then dh vacuums them up so fast, it's like, @#$%!, why should I bother if they disappear in 6 hours. And of course he can't be bothered to mix up a batch himself to replace what he inhaled. @#$%!!

YanksUponThames · 27/09/2006 19:33

fatfox -- hey, there's nothing at all wrong with hippies!... I'm one myself. Peeved by the fact that I was born just in time to start secondary school just when Thatcher & Reagan got in charge of things and then, as a result (why?!), all the blokes cut their hair too short and all the people in school simply had to wear preppie/sloane ranger gear. @#$%!!

fatfox · 27/09/2006 19:36

Yanks - I have a soft spot for men with long hair too

YanksUponThames · 27/09/2006 19:49

Good for you, FF. Long hair on men definitely needs more focus. But what can we do?? They're all too often too @#$%!!! lazy to take care of hair etc. Slackers.

fatfox · 27/09/2006 20:12

Yanks - yep, either too lazy/smelly to wash/cut it, or else they're completely vain and flick their long hair around in an annoyingly girlish way!

fatfox · 27/09/2006 20:13

Actually DS as quite long hair (surfy doody look) and I am waiting to be told off by his strict school about his hair

Uwila · 27/09/2006 20:18

Oh NO!!!!!! Short hair, clean cut, preppy types for me. Don't like long hair on boys.

YanksUponThames · 27/09/2006 20:30

Ah. Very much depends on the boy! How their head/face is shaped etc. A few of my best boy friends over the years look fab in long hair, but most of the rest, I am relieved to say, have not grown their hair long. Just as well. Probably would look frightful. I agree that most look better with the clean cut look. I'm just lamenting the fact that there are a few guys out there who would look better with long hair, but don't grow it long because they're chicken.

Paddlechick666 · 27/09/2006 20:35

okay okay! are we gonna go on a hippy sling wearing jag a la kagools and knitting!

I rented a Calin Bleu for 2 weeks and it arrived yesterday but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet.

quokka sounds like you could give me some instruction on how to tie 'em and get bubs in n out maybe?

i'm a conformist hippy i think..........

with ya on the buggy. it is useful to put the bags in when dd is too cranky to stay in there!

gutted i'll miss next week's kew outing actually!

PC666

YanksUponThames · 27/09/2006 20:36

As it happens, I've seen my dh with both short hair and long hair, over the past 20 yrs, and am very much relieved that he agrees that he looks far better with long hair, as it happens, than with short hair. Also happy that he agrees with me about that even though his mom prefers short hair! I think his sister agrees with me though.

Paddlechick666 · 27/09/2006 20:47

excuse me, can we just backtrack to snickerdoodles?

they sound fabulous and i think they may have to be the cost of a ride to CPC!

PC666

ps: long hair on top of VERY FIT surfy dudes is great. long girlie hair such as is in fashion at present on boys is rubbish tho!

Uwila · 27/09/2006 20:48

You could always call in sick, PC.

Paddlechick666 · 27/09/2006 21:02

hmmm, an interestingly subversive thought Uwila. I'll consider it.......

hey FF, guess what came thru my letterbox today? a Take-Away/Delivery menu for Escale.

I could order my main to eat at home while getting dd to bed then come over for pud!

fatfox · 27/09/2006 21:09

Paddle - that's a brill idea

How come they didn't deliver one to me?

pudding77 · 27/09/2006 21:18

I saw a photo of when my dh tried to grow long hair, unfortunately he has very curly, wiry hair and it tended to grow upwards rather than down!

Quokka - I have tried leaving him but he's well & truly awake! He is very good about going to sleep and getting back off if he does wake up, but once he's up that's it!

fatfox · 27/09/2006 21:26

puds - did he look like a poodle ?

pudding77 · 27/09/2006 21:40

Not quite, it was more like Marge Simpson!

fatfox · 27/09/2006 21:42

Stop it!

pudding77 · 27/09/2006 21:56

FF - if your last message was aimed at me I'm not kidding! Admittedly it was made worse by the fact that it was taken in a photo booth & the top of his hair is cut off in the photo so it looks like it's about 5 foot high! Though not blue

fatfox · 27/09/2006 22:05

Puds - yes it was 4 you. Pleeeze bring that photo with you on the 19th!!!

pudding77 · 27/09/2006 22:10

I'll see what I can do!

pudding77 · 27/09/2006 22:11

Anyway, that's it for me, I'm off to bed - have a good night everyone!

YanksUponThames · 27/09/2006 23:01

Yah, where's my Escale take-away menu....I'm right up th' road ffs...

Hmm, I need to see if my snickerdoodle recipe is actually here in the flat with me, or if it's back in the US at the moment. Anyway, dunno if I can get a batch together before Fri (only have ~1cup flour, or sugar, in house right now, need to go to store tomorrow anyway), but it's definitely an idea to work on soon...

2Cute · 27/09/2006 23:11

Cor blimey...what a discussion!

My DH also had the Marge Simpson hair do. (Pudding - maybe its a hockey players' thing?!) The funny thing was when he'd fall asleep, the side he leant on would be flat while the other would be really wild, it actually looked like he had HALF an afro!

Quokka - Choccie biscuits it is then! I don't know the Victoria Gate. I haven't been to Kew Gardens since I was a little 'un. I'd be happy if anyone wants to navigate, as I'll be driving...as a reward I'll let you have some of Quokka's biscuits before we get there!
