now then, let's see if I can challenge MrsBigD (in her absence LOL) for her MN Expert title:

New thread for Baby Balloon here

Phew, did it work?

Posting on the correct thread this time...

Wetland Centre's official blurb on eXplore: "This beautifully landscaped adventure area, within the 105 acre centre, will encourage children?s imagination to run riot. They can become water voles, scurrying through a maze of oversized burrows and chambers, climb a boulder wall, race ducks down a river and fly like a bird to cross water. For the even more adventurous there will be a misty dell and rain cloud where children can dodge the rain ? or get wet!"

There's a network of tunnels, a bouncy dragonfly, some bouncy insect eggs, a balance beam and wobbly bridge across a 'river', a rope swing, a death slide, a water channel for racing ducks down, a bit full of water mist, an area with big showers for getting wet in, and probably some other things I'm forgetting at the moment. DS loved it.

The rest of the Wetland Centre is pretty child-friendly too. DS also had to be torn away from a bit in the "All about Wetlands" (or whatever it's called) exhibit where he got to shoot poo (coloured balls) into a reed bed to demonstrate how the reeds filter water. Admittedly at 20 months I think he was just enjoying shooting coloured balls, rather than learning profound amounts about the environment.

Yanks, I've CAT'd you about Friday morning.

;-)

pudding77 · 27/09/2006 12:52

I can't do Thursdays as that's my NCT day but have a nice day!

Uwila · 27/09/2006 13:10

I'm happy to do Wed. or Thurs next week. Is Wed. a better day?

Paddlechick666 · 27/09/2006 13:55

unfortunately not for me Uwila, that's another office day for me.

actually i should just butt out of this one coz i'm doing 4 days per week as of next week so i only have a tuesday off.

most of tuesday arvos are taken up collecting Grandma.

altho, next week i'll have monday and friday off due to my rubbish-ness as a parent and having failed to find appropriate childcare for dd.

but on monday she's having her jabs and on friday i'm going to a Sling Meet to learn how to tie a wrap so i can carry dd better. just call me a hippy (where's foxy?)!!!!!

have i bored everyone sufficiently yet? can you tell it's a work day and i can't be bothered to read my project documentation?

PC666

ps: dh just viewed nursery at #2 on our list and nursery manager bashed door into 2yr old lil' girl

Uwila · 27/09/2006 14:09

If make you feel any better, my nanny took the kids to her doctor appointment yesterday. And DD got her finger pinched in the door. It apparently bled quite a bit and her middle finger is wrapped in a big bandage until the weekend. So, she's got a free ticket to round flippin' everyone off American style until Saturday.

I am a parnoid freak about fingers in doors because when I was 2, my 4 year old brother slammed the door when my finger was in the hinge and removed the end of my finger. It is now shorter than it otherwise would have been, and I'm lucky to have a nail on that finger.

So, I think these things happen to children no matter what care you have for them.

quokka · 27/09/2006 14:58

I can do thursday next week Uwila, Wed morning we have music so both ds are pretty knackered by midday

quokka · 27/09/2006 15:01

ds1 got the bit of skin between your thumb and index finger stuck in a hinge at nursery last week. A boy closed the door on him, you can't escape accidents like these, no matter what kind of care they have. DS still tells me it hurts

2Cute · 27/09/2006 15:04

Lemonaid - that place sounds great...I think I could have a blast there as well as DS! I might get stuck in the play equipment though (like I almost did in Snakes & Ladders when I had to rescue DS)

Uwila - I can also only do Thursday, meeting local mums & todds Wednesday morning.

Uwila · 27/09/2006 15:24

Ok, let's do Thursday then. Shall we say C&C at Kew Gardens? (since I already have a pass for there)

How about 10:00?

I'm so excited. SAHM for a week.

quokka · 27/09/2006 15:32

done! If anyone is stuck for a pass I'll give you one for a cup of tea

2Cute · 27/09/2006 15:41

Quokka - me please...I might be able to rustle up some biscuits to go with the tea!

YanksUponThames · 27/09/2006 16:23

...and Speaking of Fingers!
@#$%&!!! I just sliced my sharpest kitchen knife about 3-4mm, I think, into the pad of my thumb earlier today while cutting carrot sticks for ds. Damn. Not worried, feel confident about dealing, but feel like a @#$%!! dork for slipping up. Glad it wasn't worse! So I'll have a wad of bandage on my hand too, for a while.
Like Uwila said, stuff is just gonna happen sometimes...

YanksUponThames · 27/09/2006 16:26

May I meet up with y'all at Kew next Thursday too? Ds loves C&C.

Uwila · 27/09/2006 16:31

Of course! Americans always welcome!!!!!!!

quokka · 27/09/2006 16:45

2cute I only accept chocolate biscuits , only joking! I'll have to meet you outside then, do you know where the Victoria Gate is?

YanksUponThames · 27/09/2006 18:12

PC666 (got yr msg, BTW, replied about ride - thank you !!!) -
I don't think using a sling is a hippie thing! People have been carrying their babies around with them, strapped to their bodies, for a couple hundred thousand years....not because of ostentatious hippie display, but because it's the only thing that makes the most sense, really....the only advantage to prams/pushchairs etc. is that you can attach more bags and use them as shopping trolleys...

YanksUponThames · 27/09/2006 18:24

Quokka --
do you accept jam & creme sandwich biscuits?

(yes I know where the Victoria Gate is)

fatfox · 27/09/2006 18:42

Wot's wrong with Hippies anyway?

quokka · 27/09/2006 18:54

Yanks only if handmade

quokka · 27/09/2006 18:56

I used a sling for ds2 people would look shocked once they realised a 4 week old baby was in there, cocooned under my huge breasts [shocked]. I used one of the really basic ones that the gypsies use, and I don't reakon I'm a hippie!

pudding77 · 27/09/2006 19:06

OK, will have to miss out on next week's meet then, sniff! But I'm sure I will fit more in in the future!

Quokka - my 2-hour lunch break has, for some reason, gone down to 40mins , what do I do now??!

quokka · 27/09/2006 19:09

have you tried leaving him to cry for a bit. 10min usually does the trick for me.
