Let's start a new thread the old one is getting too long

I'm off travelling 22-29th but before then I hope I'd be able to 'find' some time but probably not in the week leading up to 22nd as dh would probably divorce me

Still here.

Sounds grim, Yanks. When my BIL's father died last year they ended up just packing up a few things and just letting one of those home clearance companies do everyhting else. He never threw anything out, including garbage, food... it wasn't nice and you just didn't want to touch anything. You have my sympathies, it's a rotten job even with a supportive spouse.

YanksUponThames · 12/09/2006 23:10

But now, to bed....
Still catching up on heaps of chores related to moving to new flat (and extracting remaining security deposit from former landlord). BUT should gradually have more time for MN. Yay!

YanksUponThames · 12/09/2006 23:19

Thanks, lemonaid!! I appreciate the thoughts, honestly. My sister and I ended up doing more or less the same as your BIL. My mom, being the packrat that she is, had accumulated lots of un-used possessions (which she couldn't afford, of course, but bought anyway) that we were able to excavate -- and fortunately, most of it had been stacked up so tight and so high that they weren't soiled with rubbish or cat puke/poo. But since I (and not my sister) had a house & car in the same town as my mom, it ended up being my chore(s) to shift the lot (what the removal people didn't haul to the county tip, I mean)....
(In exchange, my sister had the Other Fun Job of escorting our mom on the plane back to her new supervised living arrangements...)

right guys I'm trying to find a nice cottage to book for a week in the country. I would like it to be fairly modern, so no velour sofas, no floral wallpaper, and definately no carpet in the bathroom or kitchen!

Do you think I'm being unreasonable? Oh and I would really like it to have an Aga . Dh only request is that the bed doesn't have a footend, as he's 6"3 and never fits in the beds! Anyone stayed soemwhere nice that they would recommend?

lemonaid · 13/09/2006 08:46

No, but if you find somewhere let me know (DH is 6'4" and has the same problem -- and it's difficult to find out about the beds in advance. People look at you as though you're a bit touched when you ask)

quokka · 13/09/2006 08:52

I'm sure the bed will be the least of his problems. He will be hitting his head on the bloody ceiling in a cottage

fatfox · 13/09/2006 09:17

Quokka/Yanks - are you coming out to play on Friday? Please see the evening meet up thread for details of whose going/lifts etc

Quokka, we stayed in a really good apartment at Easter just ouside Lyme Regis. Had a swimming pool and situated in huge grounds with two lakes. Dead cheap too. About 1.5 miles from Lyme Regis and 1.5 Miles from Charmouth. What time of year are you going?

Sue - hope you're staying sane - how is all the organising going?

quokka · 13/09/2006 09:34

FF can't come fri as MIL 60th bday . We are going end of Oct so would like Aga more than pool . I'm so glad to hear you and babes is ok

YanksUponThames · 13/09/2006 10:12

Yesyes....looks like I will be able to make it Friday.
(now to go check again where it is exactly...)

fatfox · 13/09/2006 10:19

Thanks Quokka, sorry you can't make it Friday

Yanks - do you want a lift from Kew/Richmond, as I'm driving?

Nanou1 · 13/09/2006 10:25

hi guys! shame you cant make it Quokka! no suggestion for your hols - sorry. fatfox; if you have room would love a lift pls. might try and team up with mrsbigd to come together?! got to go. have a good day all.

fatfox · 13/09/2006 10:31

Nanou - yes, plenty of room still. So far I have Oxo, PC666 (richmond Bridge pick ups), Mrs Big D, Nanou (65 bus stop in Kew pick up) and poss Yanks (Kew/Richmond). Have 6 seats so still one spare place .

suejoneziscalmernow · 13/09/2006 10:31

Fatfox (and anyone else around in Kew Friday lunchtime), I have a haircut at 3pm in Sheen so looks like I could make a coffee between FCO in town in the morning and haircut.

See, I'm squeezing you into my busy schedule!

suejoneziscalmernow · 13/09/2006 10:32

Do you drive a minibus by night as a second job Fatfox?

fatfox · 13/09/2006 10:33

Oooh great - Sue I am free from 12 until 2.30 on Friday. I'll have DD with me so can feed her in the cafe

suejoneziscalmernow · 13/09/2006 10:36

I would hope to be back from FCO no later than 1pm but I'll take your mobile number and ring you when I leave so you know whether to feed DD or leave her for the pink icing in Starbucks...

Nanou1 · 13/09/2006 11:00

Thanks Fatfox - that's great! got to go... busy bee!

fatfox · 13/09/2006 11:18

Sue - seriously, please don't tell everyone DD lives on pink icing !!! I've just been really outspoken on the "are we poisening our children" thread, slagging people for letting their children eat junk foods.

Nanou1 · 13/09/2006 11:23

come on Fatfox... it's not pink icing it's PRINCESS icing... CONCENTRATE!!!!

YanksUponThames · 13/09/2006 11:32

fatfox -- oohh, a ride? Thanks!! That would be great! I'm sure I would be able to bunch up with Nanou1 or somebody to save you yet another stop. Personally, I'm closest to the Kew Rd/Pagoda Ave stop, which is easy to find since it's right next to that cricket ground at the arse-end of Kew Gardens. But I can shift somewhere else to make it easier for you if that's better.

MrsBigD · 13/09/2006 11:34

I don't mind where I get off the 65 So 'arse end' of Kew is I'm guessing once the wall stops?

OP posts:
fatfox · 13/09/2006 11:44

Yanks, Nanou, Mrs Big D - shall we meet at the bus stop nearest to Yanks then? at 7pm? Yanks can you explain where it is again?

YanksUponThames · 13/09/2006 11:55

Yeah, basically. The last/southernmost gate to Kew is Lion Gate, and Pagoda Avenue (with the sports ground across the street) is immediately next after the Lion Gate stop. The sports ground has a bit of car park right on Kew Road, too, in case that might be helpful for pickups etc.

fatfox · 13/09/2006 12:22

Yanks - I'll find you. My mobile number is 07779-289-041. Do you want to text me yours, just in case?

Nanou1 · 13/09/2006 12:28

yanks is it far from Kew station?
