I know we've tried to sort something before and we're all very anti-social but the summer hols are on their way, so how about trying to arrange a meet up for August sometime?

We could have a picnic in Oswestry or Telford park, if we want to do it on the cheap? Or maybe go further afield and spend the day at Chester Zoo or somewhere? Or even soft play? There's a nice new(ish) one in Os, or Wrexham have a big one as well.

Come onnnn! Humour me!

Can't do the 19th either, unless it runs on later, as although I'm in Shrewsbury that day, I'm at work (RSH) until 4ish :(

Will definitely try and make the next one though, and am keeping my fingers crossed fro nice weather for you all.

Yorky · 10/08/2010 21:34

I should be able to make it with 3LOs in tow

moaningminniewhingesagain · 10/08/2010 22:03

Me - got your email thanks TheLadyofTheGreenKirtle, with my two.

First meetup, thought they only happened for the London peopleSmile Quite exciting!

bullet234 · 10/08/2010 23:18

I will be there as well. Sorry to be pedantic, but are we meeting inside the station by the ticket booths, or outside in the carpark/taxi rank area? If the former, would you mind if I met you outside in the carpark/taxi rank anyway? Reason being, if I take the lads into the station then they will both think they are going on a train and Ds2 at least will get very very upset when it turns out we aren't.

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 10/08/2010 23:54

bullet, outside sounds like a good idea. email me (without the spaces) and we can swap numbers. yorky can confirm that i am no hairy trucker (hides knuckles)

yorky, shall we meet on the train?

MrsMeow · 11/08/2010 11:58

I'm going to look into how much it will cost for us to get there on the train, I'm not too good with directions and don't fancy driving to the station!

Does anyone know if I can get to the quarry using the Oxon park & ride? ie: can I walk there from Shrews town centre? If so, I will do that.

OP posts:
bullet234 · 11/08/2010 16:45

Yes, it is very easy to walk to the Quarry from the town centre.
Directions: Get off at The High Street/The Square.
Walk through The Square, passing The Old Market Hall and cross over to the road at the back.
See Loch Fyne restaurant.
Walk up the road next to Loch Fyne restaurant. You should pass Belvoir Letting Agents and The Coach and Horses on the way.
Keep going in a straight line and you'll get to The Town Walls and see a school and the toll bridge in front of you.
Cross over and bear right and you'll see the grey stone posts/walling that mark The Quarry after about two minutes walking.
If you get off at the bus station then walk towards Smithfield Road, then cross over to Victoria Avenue (you'll see The Armoury pub and the signs and boarding ramp for the Sabrina boat and just walk up and you get to The Quarry that way.

bullet thanks, that's really helpful :) I've had a look on the national rail site and it's only going to cost us £6 something to get there on the train (I have a railcard) so I'm veering more that way at the minute - plus I think the DC will enjoy it more. I'll print those directions off though, for if we go again.

Can you walk there from the train station? And is it ok if I meet up there with those of you that will be there? Have we sorted a time yet?

I have 2 DC, DD is 10 and DS is 6. We should have quite a mixture of little ones!

Are we taking picnics etc?

Sorry for all the questions!!!

MrsMeow · 11/08/2010 17:04

Whoops, just seen the time. 11.30 is good for us :)

OP posts:
bullet234 · 11/08/2010 17:11

Yes, extremely easy to walk there from the train station. Simply walk up to the traffic lights, cross over towards Al Piccolinos and keep walking and after about two or three minutes you'll see the bus station. Or, you can walk up Castle Street instead, passing the library and M&S on the way and get to Pride Hill, then walk down Pride Hill, cross over, bear a little to your left and you'll see The Square.

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 11/08/2010 17:17

mrsmeow, where are yuo travelling from? I can meet you at the train station if you like?

MrsMeow · 11/08/2010 17:32

Lady, I'm coming from Os. Would appreciate it if you could meet us, I don't know Shrewsbury overly well!

Shall I email you?

OP posts:
MrsMeow · 11/08/2010 17:33

Have just seen this thread and I'm so annoyed that I'll be missing the meet-up!

I'm normally in Austria but am back at my parents' in mid-Wales atm - Shrewsbury is v. easy for us to get to on the train. In fact, I met up with another MNer at the Quarry last week.

Maybe next summer... Smile

MrsMeow · 11/08/2010 20:28

Oh that's a shame Linzer, will you be back in Austria by the 19th?

We'll have to do it next time you're over. Or maybe come to Austria Wink

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 11/08/2010 21:04

Yes, we'll be flying back on the 14th - so will miss the meet-up by a few days. If only I'd known, I would have booked to stay another week. Smile

I'll just have to keep an eye on this thread to see whether anything is arranged next time I'm back...

You'd all be most welcome to come to Austria too, of course. Grin

MrsMeow · 11/08/2010 21:38

Aw, so close! Maybe next time though :) And I'll hold you to the Austria meet

BLBL I'll be wearing a red carnation and have a copy of the Guardian under my left arm.... Oh yes, and a small child under the other Grin

MrsMeow · 12/08/2010 14:48

Haha! I'll be the harrassed looking woman shouting at my DS to stop walking in front of me/cutting me up and nearly tripping me over

BLBL our train gets in at 11.17 so we should hopefully all arrive together!
