Week 4 (or 5!) Jan '25 Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning all.

Spreadsheet, as ever

Although we're coming to the end of this particular Bootcamp, you'll see that @FinallyHere has added enough columns to the spreadsheet so that you can keep going, should you wish.

We'll also keep this thread going too, past the end of the week, for general low carb/Bootcamp chat and support - although I won't be starting a weigh-in thread each Monday after this one.

I know it's only been a short one this time, but looking at the spreadsheet, it looks like there have been some great results, even before today's weigh-in. Flowers

@Lyanna I wonder if there a particular food that triggers your stomach upset? It might be worth keeping a good diary to try and figure it out. It must be very frustrating.

FinallyHere · 18/04/2025 21:08

Another vote for a food diary to identify and/or rule out potential
triggers. Hope you find what works for you

Can anyone help me? For years I have found that low carb diets make me feel more energised, happier and I lose weight quickly and get my waist (and therefore hourglass figure back).

The problem that I encounter is that at some point during the diet, I get a really really upset stomach and find that I can’t continue any more because of it.

This is very frustrating. Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening this time? I’m trying to go easy on protein. So medium protein, high fat. I’m going on holiday in June and really want to look as trim as possible. I’m 3 weeks into the diet (again) and already seeing good results.

I had something similar, with me I discovered it was dairy and felt better after reducing the amount I was having.

Nonaim · 23/04/2025 18:31

@NoCarbsForMe and @Baystard Happy to start again together. I'm actually on day 3, start weight 16st 5 🫣 Weighed this morning and down to 15st 12 so going in the right direction!

@venusandmars all of the above plus binge eating has landed me back in my sorry state! I'm doing my final year at uni (ever 🥳) The course has been so intense I literally ate my stress Grin

Seeing results stop me cheating so I've started weighing myself every morning again. Also went back to 3 meals a day instead of 1 and noticed a difference so will continue with that.

Baystard · 23/04/2025 19:11

That's an impressive loss after 3 days @Nonaim, hopefully it gives you a good motivational boost.

I was on holiday over Easter and now ready for a[nother] reset. I missed breakfast (I only rarely gave breakfast), had an omlette with leftover ham for lunch, and still deciding what to make for supper; I might reheat some fridge-bottom-soup and then have FFGY for pudding.

Goodiewhemper · 24/04/2025 05:42

Good morning all. I wrote a really long post yesterday and somehow lost it so the short version is I have put a few kgs up again and am now day 3 of a reset. I weighed in at 80.6kg on Tuesday and yesterday was 80.1kg.

One thing I am trying to restrict is coffee with cream. I love a black espresso but find it harder to drink black Americano and I need my Americano in bed first thing before I tackle the day. I usually don't eat breakfast until 10.30/11. I read somewhere recently that mct creamer is keto but also doesn't affect fasting state so I have been having a little of that in my morning coffee instead. it tastes fine but I miss my cream 😞

@NoCarbsForMeI am curious about your collagen creamer. Do you mind me asking if there is a particular benefit? I read a recent thread here about collagen and menopause and I am thinking about adding some to my diet.

Welcome back @Nonaim. This is a great spot for support and solidarity.

NoCarbsForMe · 24/04/2025 18:52

@Goodiewhemper I’m drinking coffee with cream and a tablespoon of Ancient & Braves True Collagen powder. Am peri here. Trying to build strength.

It’s tasteless

Attempted to start back a couple of days ago but have binged both days so not going well! What are people's go to packed lunches for lchf? I always used to have a feta and avocado salad with olive oils and apple cider vinegar dressing but I am so bored of it.

Not very well mentally at the moment. I know I will feel better on lchf but getting through the first few days is tough. Does anyone have any tips to help prevent lapses in the early days?

StuntNun · 24/04/2025 22:15

Cheeseburger pie is good for packed lunches @MsGoodenough For some reason it’s nicer cold than hot from the oven. The recipe should be on one of the recipe threads or I can repost it if you can’t find it.

Salad nicoise?

venusandmars · 01/05/2025 15:14

Just returned from holiday in an Asian country - very hard to avoid rice and noodles. Glad to be back to the land of nice seafood and salad.

My next 2 weeks is looking a bit disastrous in terms of meals out and events. Then I have 10 days in Italy which will be full of temptations

Is anyone up for a strict June bootcamp-style accountability (pre-summer holiday for many; post hoiday for me)?

Yes please!!!! Have been very lax while DD has been home - lovely to have her here but the extended Easter break has extended my stomach 🤣 - and was only thinking that after she goes back on Monday I need to be super strict before restive season starts. The last few days of good weather has emphasised how snug my summer clothes are!

ETA - I must read properly as completely missed the June bit sorry 😞. Happy to join in a strict June bar the 6 days of Download 🤘🍹. Luckily the signal there is so atrocious I couldn't post my non-BC shenanigans anyway 🤣

SemmaLina · 02/05/2025 07:36

Yes , please @venusandmars
We’ve a wedding to go to in August ( I haven’t been to a wedding in years ! )
I’m planning a slow start on Monday
Get organised and start cutting down on the bread ( which is my downfall )

venusandmars · 03/05/2025 16:33

@BIWI having limped along with lchf rules, and another holiday coming up in May, I feel the need for my own short strict bootcamp. I am planning this for June for myself, and for any others who want to join in for the short period.

I think I should start a separate thread, so everyone else can carry on here. I won't name it 'bootcamp'; there obviously won't be a spreadsheet, or any of the assosciated rules, resources and avice that you worked so hard on for so many years. Essentially it will be a re-focus month for those of us who have already participated in your bootcamps over the years, and who are already familiar with the drill.

Are you OK with that?

BIWI · 03/05/2025 16:34

I’m absolutely fine with it! Feel free to use any of the Bootcamp resources. Smile

Thanks for your advice re: stomach upsets. I’ve been trying to limit dairy and protein and atm everything’s ok. I’ve got to the point where I’m not even particularly hungry so that’s good because my stomach will cope better with small meals.

KittenPause · 04/05/2025 13:18

@venusandmarsI’ll happily join you so you’re not on your own Grin
I’ve let carbs creep in so much they’re now part of my normal daily WOE which is not great. plus I’ve been making sourdough at home which doesn’t help. So the starter is now relegated to the back of the fridge.
i wore a summer jacket of mine yesterday which I couldn’t zip up arrghh
Im so annoyed with myself when I could have stuck so easily to LC.

CleanQueen123 · 04/05/2025 13:23

I'm in! Weekends (including this one) have slipped and will become my downfall if I don't get on top of it.

Baystard · 05/05/2025 07:20

I'll keep you company too @venusandmars I would benefit from getting some more focus.

I've been eating lots of cheese this week and trying to regain a bit of a 'thing' for cheese. Unlike some people I'm lucky and seem to be OK on dairy, and I swear blue cheese is some sort of miracle weight loss food. The problem is avoiding the temptation to add chutney and crackers!

RockyRogue1001 · 05/05/2025 10:15

Very late to comment, but @BIWI I totally understand your position and thank you so much for the help you've given me and literally 000s of others.

RockyRogue1001 · 05/05/2025 10:16

Please may I join the rest of you?
I'm in desperate need of a reset.

HazelNotHungryLC · 05/05/2025 14:56

I need to join as well, carbs are slipping in. Although I need to start now, well after this cold goes away. Thank you for offering to do this @venusandmars!
