Week 4 (or 5!) Jan '25 Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 27/01/2025 08:27

Morning all.

Spreadsheet, as ever

Although we're coming to the end of this particular Bootcamp, you'll see that @FinallyHere has added enough columns to the spreadsheet so that you can keep going, should you wish.

We'll also keep this thread going too, past the end of the week, for general low carb/Bootcamp chat and support - although I won't be starting a weigh-in thread each Monday after this one.

I know it's only been a short one this time, but looking at the spreadsheet, it looks like there have been some great results, even before today's weigh-in. Flowers

Reminds me of Cranford. The episode in which the dear ladies cleanse their very precious lace by soaking it in milk. You could try that, but beware of naughty cats that scoff the lotGrin

@BIWI thanks I'll give them a go

FinallyHere · 29/01/2025 00:00

Hello lovely bootcampers,

This bootcamp came at a good time for me

From being a long time LCHF, I had a few indulgences over the Christmas season and at the start of this boot camp faced a 4kg (8-9lbs, more than half a stone ) increase

Sigh

I don't do well when the scales go up : it has been known to knock me off the rails for days weeks, months even years, with a severe case of the fukkits. Good few weeks of strict boot camp has worked its magic for me this time round, down 3kg and confident I've drawn a line and hauled myself back onto the waggon.

Boredom seems to be a big trigger for me, nothing much to do has me thinking hmmm, what can I eat. Although, being sad or stressed does it to me too so maybe it's not so much the trigger as how I respond that matters.

TL:DR thank you @BIWI for the magic that is boot camp and looking forward to the company of everyone continuing

Onwards and downwards.

prettybird · 29/01/2025 09:26

In good news, I have now finally broken through 12st and am now 11st 13.75lb Smile

Now, if I could lose another half stone over the next 5 weeks.... Grin

In an NSV, I'm finally stopping waking up multiple times during the night to go to the loo - today was only once at 6.30 - so that's hopefully my body having got rid of all the excess water and my kidneys used to the extra water intake.

BIWI · 29/01/2025 10:37

Good news - on all fronts @prettybird Grin

Gratters @prettybird on your milestone success

CleanQueen123 · 29/01/2025 18:27

Well done @prettybird ! Really hoping I can hit the under 12st mark next week. Losing anything significant seems to have become a battle.

I remember my university days when I could stop the kebabs for a fortnight and lose a stone! Oh to be young!

NoCarbsForMe · 29/01/2025 19:00

I've definitely been in the "fuck it" category this week 🙈

Feeling so perimenopausal at the moment it's very tedious.

Working from home on a screen all week and haven't stocked up on enough interesting protein!
I will have a big shop and meal prep this weekend.

Scared to weigh in to be honest.

KittenPause · 30/01/2025 01:33

That's brilliant @prettybird a nice achievement

KittenPause · 30/01/2025 08:19

I look like a younger version of myself in the mirror this morning

Slimmer face

Slimmer shoulders so top is hanging better

venusandmars · 30/01/2025 09:44

@KittenPause that must feel good. It will put a spring in your step, and you'll probably hold yourself taller too.

@prettybird sticking to strict bootcamp could see you loose 1.5 pounds a week, that would take you to your holiday target.

I was out for dinner last night, had a halbut starter (with cream and sea vegetables), and venison main. I don't eat a lot of red meat but the venison was cooked to perfection, reminded me why I like red meat. Yesterday was a bit light on the veg, but I'll rectify that today with avocado, lots of salad, then broccol, green beans and red cabbage with my chicken tonight.

ofcourseyes · 30/01/2025 10:13

I've had a couple of wins at work this week and a stressful job to do Saturday so tempted to have some wine this weekend.
I'll be trying to stick to low carb WOE for a while yet.
Congrats @KittenPause and @prettybird I'm hoping to break through to under 11st in the next couple of weeks.

KittenPause · 30/01/2025 12:23

I found a tube of Berocca so I'm going to use them instead of electrolytes and a small banana for the potassium

BIWI · 30/01/2025 16:02

They're not the same as electrolytes, @KittenPause - and bananas are definitely not for Bootcamp! You can get your potassium from other sources without having to up your carbs like that.

Hi everyone, quick check in. Last week I started weeks behind everyone else and did really well until Friday when we were hit by Storm Eowyn. Our power went down early Friday morning and is not estimates to be back until Sunday 😭. We were without water until yesterday. Wind speeds of 183km per hour were recorded in my county in the west of Ireland Luckily we have an open fire and a gas stove top but I have just had to abandon any attempt at low carbing. I am giving up for now and when we get a grip on things I will give it another go.

I haven't read back as I only have intermittent internet access but I hope you all are well and those who were in the storm's path are safe and well.

ReconstructionSite · 31/01/2025 08:26

Have got back down to where I was after a blippy week, though I am having the work week from hell and not coping very well 😔 Not drinking much by any means, but the odd G&T or glass of wine has crept back in more than I'd like. Equally I don't usually get that stressed at work so this is a particular low point, so making the decision not to chastise myself for doing what I need to do to get through the week (the Lindt Balls on top of the cupboard may also have found me!). Other than a bit of chocolate and alcohol, sticking to LC meal wise.

Going to do a fakeaway crispy chilli shredded beef later (it may require a touch of cornflour) on a bed of stir fried cabbage 👍

SemmaLina · 31/01/2025 09:02

@Goodiewhemper I think in those circumstances , we’d all have given up on Bootcamp and just be trying to stay alive !

I’m plodding on , haven’t lost any more , but haven’t put any on, a bit of a stalemate
Probably need more water , but the cold wet weather doesn’t make a glass of cold water very appealing
I've bought some Glow Tea , DD recommended it , it’s apparently good for the complexion , we’ll see how that goes

againmaeve · 31/01/2025 09:05

Weigh day and I've lost 4.6lb over bootcamp which I'm pleased with as I am short. I'm definitely going to continue being 'carb aware' - wish I'd done body measurements as well as weighing as I feel my tummy has definitely reduced a good bit.

BIWI · 31/01/2025 10:37

@Goodiewhemper that sounds both scary and hugely inconvenient - a good job you have a gas stove top though. Definitely survival mode rather than worrying about low carb/Bootcamp. Hope it all gets fixed soon Flowers

So today is - finally! - the last day of January, so the last official day of this Bootcamp. What a long month!!! I love this poem by Brian Bilston:

Thirty days has September
April, June and November
Unless a leap year is its fate
February has twenty-eight
All the rest have three days more
excepting January
which has six thousand
one hundred and eighty-four

RatatatCat · 31/01/2025 11:14

It has been a very long month!

Since the 6th I'm 5.5lb down which I'm very happy with. Although the last 4lbs that I'm trying to lose seems to be very stubborn.

Still carrying on with this WOE and boot camp lite until I've managed to get to my goal. I've started back at the gym which I've been enjoying too.

Well done all

Iheartmysmart · 31/01/2025 11:22

Gosh @Goodiewhemper that sounds really scary! I’m glad you’re okay.

Thanks to @BIWI for organising Boot Camp and keeping us all on track. I’ve lost 9lbs in the four weeks which I’m really pleased with. Completely agree with the poem, January seems to go on forever 😆

NSV for me are the fact that my favourite jeans fit again, my sweet tooth has subsided considerably and my skin is clear for the first time in goodness knows how many years. Still need to lose about 21lbs but it finally feels achievable.

KittenPause · 31/01/2025 17:31

It's been a great, but long, month sharing LCBC with everyone and many of us will continue on here which I'm looking forward to to keep me on the straight and narrow

prettybird · 31/01/2025 18:53

I'm really pleased with my achievement this Boot Camp: started at 12st 11lb on 3 January Shock thanks mostly to a tub of Treeslets Xmas Blushand yesterday I saw 11st 13lb on the scales Grin That's 12 whole pounds Smile

It helps that I'm ultra-focussed with my holiday in March and a wedding to go to on 21 March. The dress I'm planning on wearing is getting a little looser Halo - but still a way to go but I'll get there Wink At least I have another month to stay focussed - and then to work on at least maintaining while we're away. Grin

KittenPause · 31/01/2025 21:29

My jeans literally slipped halfway down my bum as I was walking to the kitchen BlushGrin earlier

Not so loose after my meal of mixed roasted vegggies and chicken. I thought I'd add a bit of Nando's lemon and herb sauce then decided to add a bit of the Nando's hot 🥵 sauce and my mouth was on fire 🔥

I'm having some wine 🍷 and hoping I won't go into a snack frenzy because my meal was lovely and filling
