Week 4 (or 5!) Jan '25 Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning all.

Spreadsheet, as ever

Although we're coming to the end of this particular Bootcamp, you'll see that @FinallyHere has added enough columns to the spreadsheet so that you can keep going, should you wish.

We'll also keep this thread going too, past the end of the week, for general low carb/Bootcamp chat and support - although I won't be starting a weigh-in thread each Monday after this one.

I know it's only been a short one this time, but looking at the spreadsheet, it looks like there have been some great results, even before today's weigh-in. Flowers

We had an excellent low carb lunch (mostly) yesterday - roast guineafowl with shallots and bacon, and a sauce made from the gravy, with cream , thyme and prosecco (the only element that wasn't very low carb). We had lots of vegetables with it; the rest of the family also had colcannon mash or roasted baby potatoes.

Thank sounds delicious! Guinea Fowl is one of my favourites.

venusandmars · 01/04/2025 19:52

Our local farm butcher had wild venison fillet. Rubbed and marinated in olive oil, thyme and rosemary, then fried and basted in lots of butter. Rested and sliced. Amazing! With buttered cabbage and wilted spinach. Best mother's day lunch!

A bit left over which was made into strogonoff today with fried shallots, garlic, mushrooms, horseradish and sour cream. On a nest of courgetti.

I've really got back into intermittent fasting, so nothing but water and herbal tea until 11am when I have my coffee with a small dash of cream.

Castlerigg · 01/04/2025 23:19

@GunnersforthecupGuinea fowl sounds amazing, I don’t think I’ve tried it. Lunch today was chicken thigh with spinach and rocket. Dinner was leftover lasagne, not very low carb but I am trying to use what I have in, and at least it was homemade so it was made with decent meat and veg.

Hi all,

Well I had a loss this week so feeling back on track again, thank goodness.

SW 14st7
CW 13st12
TW 11st

I’ve managed to up my gym visits, which I think is helping.

I have various trips planned in the next few months that involve being in a swimming costume with very slim friends. It’s stressing me out if I’m honest. KOKO!

NoCarbsForMe · 02/04/2025 06:38

Well done @CleanQueen123!! 👏

BIWI · 26/03/2025 10:57

@CleanQueen123 I have no idea if there’s any science behind the 3 days - probably more that I couldn’t be arsed to work out any more days Grin
But in reality, it’s just designed as a ’short, sharp, shock’ to get things going again.

@NoCarbsForMe how long have you gone without any loss? And how much more weight do you have to lose? It is very common to have periods of time where things don’t move, so if it’s only a short period of time, and if you know you’ve been following all the rules (you have, haven’t you?!), then don’t panic.

Ubercamp is three days’ worth of low carb meals, all listed on the spreadsheet.

I think I find the periods of no loss are a bit of a slap in the face when I’ve been following the rules. Just need to get to the whoosh, and then I feel better!

When I don’t follow the rules sometimes, it makes sense to me if I go up a lb or 2.

BIWI · 02/04/2025 10:14

But it’s quite normal for body weight to fluctuate on a daily basis!

You still haven’t listed out your meals/food ...

I'd forgotten how much I love the almond muffins. I was making cheese and herb scones for dh and have made low carb muffins for me. Spring herbs from the garden (rosemary, thyme, chives). Lots of cheese. Mmm. Served tonight with tomato soup, and tomorrow breakfast with a bit of nut butter.

I can't find the link to the recipe, but:

1 cup almond flour
30g cold butter
tsp baking powder

(rubbed together with salt, herbs, a bit of chilli flakes)

3 eggs
60g grated cheese

Baked in mini muffin tins until they look gorgeous.

venusandmars · 02/04/2025 17:10

dh's scones on left, my muffin on the right!

Cheese muffins are great, they're so versatile, a great breakfast or a portable snack!

Appalonia · 02/04/2025 18:53

I made a lovely quiche with eggs, cream, feta, boursin, asparagus, bacon, mushrooms and grated cheese on top. Yum!

Oh yum!

I had courgetti with leeks, smoked salmon, sour cream, Parmesan and pepper last night. It was yummy.

Have upped my gym frequency too which I’m feeling. Still bobbing up and down between the same 3lbs though 🙄🙄🙄!!!

Nonaim · 04/04/2025 21:05

Well, I only went and did it, didn't I. I put back on ALL 3st I lost after doing my first ever bootcamp back in 2020. So mad with myself Angry

Swanout · 05/04/2025 16:47

Can anyone recommend an app for daily weighers?
I’ve bootcamped before and vaguely remember the mention of an app but can’t find anything

Ah @Nonaim I can only imagine losing 3st! Start again with me for company?

venusandmars · 05/04/2025 18:09

@Nonaim OK so what are you going to do now? Do you know what the particular culprits were? sugar, refined carbs, alcohol? All of the above? But you've done it before and you can do it again.

What did you like about this approach last time round? Did you post your menus and can you go back and look at them and follow them again.

You've made the first step. Well done.

Baystard · 05/04/2025 21:13

I feel your pain @nonaim. I'm resetting after a spell off the wagon too. I will happily keep you company along with @nocarbsforme

I started back again today. I had tomato soup for lunch, made with lots of EVOO, cream and parmesan. Supper was home made coleslaw and cheese (the others had a baked potato but I just had filling).

Still quite full but have a headache already. However I'm looking forward to regaining control!

MsGoodenough · 09/04/2025 22:16

Hello all. Can I join? I did bootcamp a few years ago and loved it. For me it wasn't the weight loss, but the way it helped with my anxiety and insomnia and binge eating that was life changing. Now all of those are back with a vengeance so trying to get back on the lchf wagon.

BIWI · 09/04/2025 22:22

You are very, very welcome! Flowers

And you aren’t alone to discover that there are benefits beyond weight loss if you adopt a low carb WOE.

Happy Scale.

MsGoodenough · 10/04/2025 12:58

Thank you. To be honest I'm at a crisis point in my life and desperately trying to find things that have worked in the past to get me through it. Looking forward to eating lots of cream!!!

KittenPause · 12/04/2025 18:05

I’ve just made a vegetable soup from frozen green beans, onion and potato. Very yummy. I bought some celery salt online from BWFO which has really elevated it taste wise. I bought other items from them too such as caraway seeds and some potato starch to try and make a particular dish for DS. Their herbs and spices seem more flavourful than the supermarket and cost the same.

Lyannaa · 13/04/2025 19:52

Can anyone help me? For years I have found that low carb diets make me feel more energised, happier and I lose weight quickly and get my waist (and therefore hourglass figure back).

The problem that I encounter is that at some point during the diet, I get a really really upset stomach and find that I can’t continue any more because of it.

This is very frustrating. Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening this time? I’m trying to go easy on protein. So medium protein, high fat. I’m going on holiday in June and really want to look as trim as possible. I’m 3 weeks into the diet (again) and already seeing good results.
