Week 4 (or 5!) Jan '25 Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning all.

Spreadsheet, as ever

Although we're coming to the end of this particular Bootcamp, you'll see that @FinallyHere has added enough columns to the spreadsheet so that you can keep going, should you wish.

We'll also keep this thread going too, past the end of the week, for general low carb/Bootcamp chat and support - although I won't be starting a weigh-in thread each Monday after this one.

I know it's only been a short one this time, but looking at the spreadsheet, it looks like there have been some great results, even before today's weigh-in. Flowers

1 pound down. Slow, but all in the right direction.

Made lovely stock for soup. Guinea fowl carcas in the slow cooker overnight. The only problem is the delicious smell wafting through the house all night means I've worken up hungry!

Thanks @BIWI for your continued work in running bootcamp.

I messed up more than once last week so it is a couple of unsurprising pounds on for me. Asides from the beer/chips incident, I just got a bit lax over the weekend. Did some baking with my son for packed lunch banana muffins and allowed myself to be "forced" to try one, etc. I'm pretty close to goal weight so it isn't the end of the world and hopefully can get that back down this week.

Thank you @BIWI and FinallyHere for all the efforts in keeping this going, it's a lovely resource and community ❤️

SemmaLina · 27/01/2025 09:36

Stayed the same this week , which is a bit annoying
2 weeks before we go on holiday , and I’ve ordered myself a bikini ( a big one , no bare arse cheeks for me thankyou ) plenty of time for another couple of pounds to come off

Floralnomad · 27/01/2025 10:39

I’m down 2.5 lbs this week which is probably my biggest loss in a week for a while and also means my BMI is now sitting in the top of healthy weight category , which really inspires me to carry on . Thanks @BIWI and @FinallyHere for your continued efforts .

TheOnlyMrsW · 27/01/2025 10:42

Up by 1/2lb which I'm not surprised about as I was very lax with water over the weekend and find that makes such a difference, onwards and upwards again today. The celeriac recipes look lovely, especially the soup ones but I haven't seen any in the shops lately, will have a look later in the week.
Will be finishing on Thursday for this one, DH's birthday is Friday and we're going away for the weekend. Will do my best to be compliant foodwise (I tend to not really like a lot of the potato/pasta/rice elements anyway) but there will definitely be wine! Definitely intend to carry on though, this woe suits me so much better and find it reasonably easy to stick to.
Will be omelette for brunch and roast salmon and veg traybake for dinner, still quite cold so all the herbal tea for me again.............
We are away on holiday 1st March so if I can get rid of a few more pounds before then I'll be happy - not sure that it will be quite bikini weather by then but hopfeully warm enough for short sleeves 🙏

FinallyHere · 27/01/2025 11:33

Gratters @Floralnomad so glad to read that

"my BMI is now sitting in the top of healthy weight category"

AlbertCamusflage · 27/01/2025 12:06

I've re-introduced nuts and it has coincided with me being a bit more troubled by snack-seeking appetite. It could be coincidence but I just don't know.

TBH, losing the carb-cravy appetite and experiencing a different sort of appetite leaves me a bit in the dark. Im finding at the moment that I don't know if I am "really" hungry or not.

There have been a few days when my appetite has been quite suppressed and I may have eaten too little, especially since I have gone running on some days or been active at the gym. So perhaps the snacky feeling is a response to that. But I just don't know - the high fat way of eating means that I could have ingested enough calories without really realising it.

Feeling a bit confused, all in all. I hadn't lost weight at my last weigh-in, but I hadn't gained, either, and that might be a good-enough result for me, given that my BMI is 22.6. What I am frightened of is that the confusion and lack of weight loss may shade over into demoralisation and failure.

The nuts I have eaten are almonds. I've also started using pumpkin seeds and chia seeds. I think I should perhaps banish whole almonds (too snacky) and just keep almond flour in the house.

Sorry for the long post

BIWI · 27/01/2025 12:37

Don't worry about post length! It's important everyone feels able to post their concerns/questions etc on these threads.

I'd say that with a BMI of 22.6 you probably don't have much weight to lose anyway, so you could be looking at working out what a maintenance WOE is for you.

Another 2lbs this week, over 5 in the last three weeks, I am sooo happy!
I'll stay lurking here if that's ok @BIWI? All the support and receipe ideas I'm hoping will keep me on track, could be down to my target weight for summer. Thank you so much @BIWI and @FinallyHere for this bootcamp and sheet x

prettybird · 27/01/2025 15:18

I'll weigh in formally tomorrow or Wednesday - had a Burns Supper last night and am drinking a lot of water today to make up for it Wink (although I didn't face any mashed potatoes with the haggis Grin)

I had to do 3 different versions of the starter, to cope with ds' veggie/pescatarian gf, and fussy ds who doesn't like scallops so I wasn't going to waste their extortionate cost on him - she got caramelised apple slices instead of black pudding and carrot "fake-on" slices and ds got fried Camembert instead of scallops Smile

The cranachan was made with toasted flaked almonds rather than oats.

@ofcourseyes - please stay, but stop lurking! Grin

Glad it's worked for you. And hopefully will continue to.

Those look delicious, @prettybird . So does your gorgeous lace tablecloth btw.

prettybird · 27/01/2025 16:05

Lace tablecloth cost us €300 in a wee mountain village in Levkas (Levkada) nearly years ago Smile Dh negotiated down from €420. Grin

The wee Greek ladies in our hotel back in Meganisi thought that we'd got a great deal as it's handmade. Never regretted splashing out on it Smile

CleanQueen123 · 27/01/2025 17:52

Only 1/2lb down this week so feeling a bit disheartened because I'm sure a felt a lot lighter during the week, but there we are. Big push for the final week! Then hang on in there until the next bootcamp I think.

prettybird · 27/01/2025 18:00

@CleanQueen123 - I'm going to be continuing on mostly strictly until the beginning of March as I'm off on holiday then Smile

I'll also have to stay at least partially on track as the dress I want to wear to the wedding on 21 March is still a bit tight Blush let's just say bending down is difficult as there is no "ease" over my hips Shock

Ideally I'd like to lose at least another half stone before we leave Grin

AlbertCamusflage · 27/01/2025 18:06

Some things are definitely worth splashing out on! Especially when you are supporting wonderfully talented people by buying their work.

At least I'll have company! I think a few of us are staying on.

LCagain · 27/01/2025 19:16

Well done everyone! I'm also planning to hang around after the end of this week. I feel so much better energy wise with this as my normal. Still not finding the veggie LC eating out easy, but I have a better handle on the comfort eating now which I'm very grateful for!

LCagain · 27/01/2025 19:18

If anyone is interested - and no judgement at all here - I found Annie Grace's book This Naked Mind really powerful to explore my relationship with alcohol better. Think there are a lot of parallels with switching to a LC mindset.

Baystard · 27/01/2025 20:12

Have posted my weight, it is 0.9kg up on last week but I thought it would be worse. Good day today, though had some nuts and a tiny bit of quince paste with some cheese (no crackers though). I have learnt that even a dash of steamed milk in my coffee in the morning is enough to make me lose will power/control. I definitely need to stick to black.

Caught up with the cholesterol talk on last week's thread too. Mine is very high, both LDL and HDL, and I suspect it's genetic. However my triglycerides are low and I'm a normal BMI so, as I don't want to take statins or reduce my fat intake, I am just avoiding my GP Grin

againmaeve · 28/01/2025 08:27

Going to weigh at the end of the week as have had a few slip ups. Boot camp has made me more mindful about carbs though and for that I'm grateful

Iheartmysmart · 28/01/2025 19:17

Whoops, I forgot to bookmark the new thread! It’s been a trying few days with a broken tooth and no heating or hot water but all has been fixed today.

I’m down another 1lb which is great. Will record it properly on Thursday which is my official weigh in day. Even managed to swerve the cake when I took mum out at the weekend.

Beautiful tablecloth @prettybird I’d be petrified of spilling something on it!

KittenPause · 28/01/2025 21:41

I've fallen off the wagon a bit as it were because I keep getting headaches

I had some toast from the freezer for breakfast and then went and made more bread in the bread maker with which I made a cold gammon, gherkin and lettuce sandwich with mayo and mustard Blush

Dinner was schnitzel with spinach

prettybird · 28/01/2025 21:59

@Iheartmysmart - there are loads of wine stains on it Shock but I try to spot clean it. If there is a sunny spell forecast in summer, I try to wash it with bicarbonate of soda and then dry it in the sun for its bleaching power....

....but I live in Scotland Wink

BIWI · 28/01/2025 22:06

@KittenPause sorry, I meant to respond to your earlier post where you referenced headaches. Sounds like you could do with some electrolyte tabs. Zero by High5 are available in Boots, or via Amazon/their own website.
