Week 4 (or 5!) Jan '25 Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 27/01/2025 08:27

Morning all.

Spreadsheet, as ever

Although we're coming to the end of this particular Bootcamp, you'll see that @FinallyHere has added enough columns to the spreadsheet so that you can keep going, should you wish.

We'll also keep this thread going too, past the end of the week, for general low carb/Bootcamp chat and support - although I won't be starting a weigh-in thread each Monday after this one.

I know it's only been a short one this time, but looking at the spreadsheet, it looks like there have been some great results, even before today's weigh-in. Flowers

That's the problem with tapas, or meze, isn't it?! Lots of lovely low carb options, but every other fucker wants to share mine!

Actually, the tapas meal went really well. I was sitting nexto someone who has a narrow range of foods they'll eat (self-confessed picky eater) who declared their aversion to sharing. I declared I was also terratorial about my food, so the others near us got the message loud and clear. In the end I chose 2 dishes for me and also padron peppers which I was happy to share.

@prettybird glad there were no photos, I had a vegetarian/pescetarian friend staying and I'd have been feeling very jealous!

All my evening socialising / alcohol adjacent events are over until 21st February, so I'm going to revert to sober January until then. That's what makes the biggest difference to my bootcamp weight loss.

prettybird · 06/02/2025 09:27

Good luck with your abstention @venusandmars Smile

I've significantly reduced my alcohol intake even though we're off the dry Boot Camp: cut is down to sharing Wink a bottle of Cava on a Friday night and then a nice bottle on either Saturday or Sunday night (this week it'll be Sunday as the kids will be over for their fortnightly "family" meal). Dh has to drink on his own the rest of the week Grin (he does stretch the bottle over a few nights, if he opens one, honest Wink)

KittenPause · 06/02/2025 11:17

Wine just makes me want to ravenously snack even if have it with a decent meal

I'm shrinking so I'm happy. My portion sizes are smaller than they used to be and my stomach is ok with that.

I had a 3 egg 🍳 omelette with cheese and sirachia sauce for breakfast with tea and coffee which I just love with cream

I'm still happy with my chicken or fish with veggies for dinner. Gammon here and there. Not had much red meat at all but will be making beef patties ar some point to use up mince.

DD is eating a lot of eggs which I'm happy about.

I have gone a bit off plan a couple of times but it hasn't hindered weight loss.

I need to start toning my body so my skin doesn't sag but so far it's just shrinking

KittenPause · 06/02/2025 11:18

How's everyone else getting on post BC ?

TheOnlyMrsW · 06/02/2025 11:59

Alcohol is also my worst thing - I had 2 glasses of wine last night (don't often on a school night) and I slept badly, felt horrendous this morning and was running late which meant I forgot my lovely LC lunch I'd made for the office 😥so a multitude of sins.
I'm shrinking (slowly) too, 4lb off during bootcamp and 6lb since 1st Jan, I lost 9lb over the first BC I was part of so hopeful that I can get to that point by our holiday at the beginning of March and work my way down from there.
Even though I'm only 2 years older I've noticed that the weight is slower to come off so being as mindful as I can (and I find it harder in winter anyway to take on water, there's only so much herbal tea I can cope with). @prettybird I think I'm glad there's no photos, that sounded lovely!

prettybird · 06/02/2025 12:03

@TheOnlyMrsW - we leave on 2 March for our long holiday so I'm similarly motivated Grin

I'm going to have to work hard to at the very least maintain for the first 19 days, so that I'll still be able to wear my dress comfortably Wink at the wedding Shock assuming I lose the few pounds that I need to between now and going off to give me the required "ease" over my hips Blush

I’m being pretty strict at the moment because I’m going to Disney Paris at half term where I will be less so , I do have the advantage of being teetotal .

You'll be walking loads so you'll get nice and fit at least. If you're DC aren't too young then late at night there's no one queuing for the rides so you'll get nice can go on all your favourite ones or those you've missed. I love Disneyland Paris

KittenPause · 06/02/2025 14:15

Your DC

KittenPause · 06/02/2025 14:16

Honestly predictive text makes me sound like a loon

Note to self double check

prettybird · 06/02/2025 16:07

Lidl are going through another phase of not having full fat authentic Greek yoghurt in stock Sad When they next have it in stock, I'll be buying 3 tubs. That should last me until I go off Grin

My children are both adult , we also have 2 priority passes between us so no queuing anyway . We go a lot , my son has been out this week as well . We are a Disney loving family 😄

TheOnlyMrsW · 06/02/2025 19:35

@prettybird we're only going for a few days to get away from the bloody cold and wet so hoping that there won't be too much damage, then when we get back it's not long til the clock changes and it gets wet but a little bit warmer 🤬🤣. I also stock up on ffgy now and it's rare that we don't have a couple of tubs in the fridge, if you were closer you'd be welcome to some!

prettybird · 06/02/2025 19:57

I have one portion left in my tub Shock Lidl better have some tomorrow after not having any for the last 2 weeks Hmm

venusandmars · 06/02/2025 20:11

Tesco shelves were empty of ffgy so I bought some from Sainsbury's. I expected it to be so much nicer, but it tasted very sour and 'yogurty'. Need to add double cream to it to make it properly tasty Grin

Are you going somewhere lovely @prettybird ?

prettybird · 06/02/2025 20:39

We're off to Melbourne Smile The wedding is in the highlands, about 3 hours away. We're finishing off with 3 days up in Cairns to go to the Great Barrier Reef and also visit the rainforest.

Ds and his girlfriend are joining us for the 2nd half of the holiday. This is an expensive consequence of Covid, as we were supposed to go in May 2020 as a last big family holiday I literally had the flights on hold when Lockdown happened Sad and since then he's acquired a girlfriend Shock. She's lovely though - and very appreciative that we're paying for her Smile

BIWI · 06/02/2025 22:04

Very envious @prettybird!

Still being strict as I'm not quite at my goal weight.

However, I did crack open some LC friendly gin that I purchased a while back in anticipation of being on LC after Christmas but not ready to give up booze. It's called LuxLo and has zero carbs/sweeteners, it's less alcohol but absolutely delicious.

KittenPause · 07/02/2025 06:06

@Floralnomad I suppose Disneyland is a great walking holiday isn't it really but with all the fun rides to boot. Perfect

@prettybird also very jealous of your trip to OZ. I keep planning to go back to visit family which I will do at some point. a good reason to KOKO

colouringindoors · 07/02/2025 11:26

Hope its ok to just drop in - am doing this (liter) with Long Covid and have to ration cognitive stuff.
Lost 7lb first two weeks.
Maybe half a pound since - think that's not unusual tho frustrating

Fatigue obv issue for me want to make sure I'm not exacerbating.
Having:
Lots fluids inc electrolytes. Three meals. Handful berries couple times a week. 10g 85% choc after dinner. Adding salt to food

Any suggestions much appreciated thanks

BIWI · 07/02/2025 11:34

Of course it's OK to drop in @colouringindoors!

First, how much do you weigh/how tall are you? So that we can gauge what level/rate of loss is appropriate. (Although it sounds like you're doing well, especially if you're suffering from Long Covid Flowers)

And second, list out for us everything you've eaten and drunk for the last two or three days, to see if there's anything we can tweak.

venusandmars · 07/02/2025 17:06

@prettybird that sounds fantastic, and how lovely of you to pay for ds's gf. Sometimes these things are just worth pushing the boat out for. Making memories, and all that Grin

@colouringindoors when you've got energy batch cook and freeze - shepherd's pie but topped with mashed celeriac, lots of veg in with the mince; home made soups with (chicken stock and veg) with added cheese / cream; a meal plan so you're not having to think on your feet at every meal; keeping things simple - an avocado with grated cheese, a boiled egg mashed with butter, frozen rasps in the freezer so you can add a few to yogurt.

We can help you with meal planning some simple, delicious, nutritious things if that would help.

prettybird · 07/02/2025 17:21

It helps that the executors released some of the cash from my dad's estate just at the point I was booking, so I haven't had to (as I'd planned) take money out of savings Smile. Heaven knows when the sale of my dad's place will go through so that the rest of the estate can be distributed Sad

In other good news, I was able to buy 3, three, tubs of authentic FFGY at Lidl today Grin The next person won't be so lucky as I cleared them out Wink

ofcourseyes · 07/02/2025 17:39

Monday weigh in was not pretty, had a stressful weekend, too much wine and snacking meant 2lbs on 🫣
Strict this week and this morning's weight has list excess and another half so not quite understand the 11st mark but better than Monday!
Going to move to Friday weigh in, loss will encourage and keep me on track.
@prettybird 20 years since I over that side of Oz, very jealous, enjoy the trip!

ofcourseyes · 07/02/2025 17:40

Bloody autocorrect!
Lost excess and under not understand
