May '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - Final weigh-in and ongoing chat

BIWI · 08/07/2024 08:34

Morning all Flowers

Here's the spreadsheet for its final outing although that said, you'll see that @FinallyHere has added extra columns for anyone who wants to keep using it

I hope that all has gone well - and I notice that we have at least 2 Bootcampers who have reached/exceeded the 1 stone mark, which is fantastic!

Just because we've reached the end of the 8 weeks doesn't mean that you have to stop - or stop chatting. We'll keep this thread going for as long as people want to use it, and I'll start a new one once this one gets full.

Oh bless!

Here to have a go, without any idea of what Bootcamp entails, or what I post about.

But good try!

(Oh, and if you'd really read any of the Bootcamp threads you'd see that I always post a disclaimer about my experience/qualifications).

Go and eat a banana.

FFS!!! 😂Stop reporting the comments before I've read them! 😂😂First I missed what WankyPie said and now I've missed what the other one said!! 😂

@MissBeck Grin

NotDonna · 21/08/2024 21:30

@MissBeck you made me laugh as I was thinking the same!

MissBeck · 22/08/2024 17:54

I'm getting really bored of this not tasting thing now! How much bloody longer is it going to last!! I have a chicken in the oven, but nothing else. Just gonna sit there with the whole thing on a plate and scoff my way through it! 😂Even my scratchings are shite at the moment!

Gingerwarthog · 25/08/2024 22:42

@BIWI
Did someone say banana? 🤣

Gingerwarthog · 25/08/2024 22:46

Talking of which.... I have fallen off the wagon a bit and need a bootcamp to get me back in gear. Teeth and gums still good though and have had glowing reports from the dentist and hygienist.

Never mind my bananas, it's been cake, crumble, pasta and beer here....and therefore a weight gain (no surprise).

FinallyHere · 25/08/2024 23:24

Welcome back on the waggon @Gingerwarthog Draw a line, hop back on board. It's all good here.

BIWI · 26/08/2024 08:31

Welcome back @Gingerwarthog! Good to hear about dental positivity Grin
No plans for another Bootcamp at the moment, but keep chatting with us here.

Thanks @BIWI
When will I learn that pasta means pounds.
Onwards and upwards

Lougle · 26/08/2024 09:31

Well done for coming back @Gingerwarthog. I'm 1lb up this week which is no surprise because I've been more relaxed about what I eat.

Gingerwarthog · 26/08/2024 11:26

Thanks @BIWI and @Lougle
Invested in smart scales today - laughed when the results analysis clearly stated eat more protein!
Chicken, eggs, milk here I come.

NotDonna · 26/08/2024 20:22

Evening all, back from Greece and maintained weight at 150.8 so I’m happy with that. I was fairly good with only one ice-cream, a bit of wine. I’m got a chest infection and feeling a bit rubbish so definitely need to up the water!!

Goodiewhemper · 27/08/2024 05:49

Hello everyone. I haven't been around in a while and have missed you all here. In the past few months I have tried to keep to the spirit of BC but have had a few slips with trips away, visitors, dining our etc. I suspect a gain but am avoiding the scales! I do know it is time to get my ass in gear and get back on track.

Last time I posted here I mentioned I was meeting a new GP who specialises in menopause and HRT. I am now on Everol patches (oestrogen and progesterone) and am beginning to feel the benefits with no negative side effects, so far. I had a Dexa scan and bloods done as part of the overall evaluation. My cholesterol is still on the high side but she was happy as my HDL is high and in her words "is gobbling up my LDL" and my bones are in excellent condition with not a hint of oesteoperosis. I told her I was LCHF and she told me to keep doing what I'm doing especially the 10% fat Greek yogurt.

I haven't read the full thread but can I just add my full support for the amazing @BIWI. I honestly owe so much to you and your big stick. The support from everyone on this thread is fantastic and it is a privilege to be part of such a great group.

IVbumble · 27/08/2024 18:30

May I trail along at the back? I do 16/8 & LCHF.

I lost 2 stone back in 2022 because my diabetes risk was high. I've kept that weight off but have reached a plateau which I think can be common with intermittent fasting. Currently my diabetes risk is moderate. I'm still high BMI.

My portion size is very small & often with no carbs or sugar [apart from fruit] but I do have times when I feel I have to stuff my face with CAKE. Sometimes I choose to do this other times I don't. I know my resistance to cake is much higher if I haven't had any sugar or carbs in the preceding days.

For those of us worried about cholesterol it's well worth reading The Great Cholesterol Con by Dr Malcolm Kendrik or The Great Cholesterol Myth by Nutritionist Johnny Bowden.

Gingerwarthog · 27/08/2024 22:05

Back on it and feeling better already.
Yoghurt, salad with ham and cheese and no alcohol or cake. (I am a cake fiend too @IVbumble ).
Have ordered some protein supplements which I am not sure is usually allowed but the scales say protein is low and affecting my metabolic rate so will give them a go for a week or so.

BIWI · 27/08/2024 22:24

Welcome @IVbumble!

Just to pick you up on this:

My portion size is very small & often with no carbs or sugar [apart from fruit]

On Bootcamp you should be eating carbs - but in the form of vegetables and salad. It's one of the rules, to ensure you're getting good nutrition. But you need to be careful about the fruit. Depends what fruit you're choosing - berries are generally the best - but try to keep it to a minimum and/or substitute for veg.

Sounds like you do have a sweet tooth issue!

Definitely agree with you about the books.

I am still here in the background.

I am still quite happy with my body, while still wanting to lose more.
I feel a lot more comfortable in my own skin.
I am still a bit bored of the default foods I am eating but I have a lot of recipes to try that I just haven't got around to yet (my own fault) which I look forward to-I think the issue is there's only me (I just live with my dog) and if I don't like it or can't eat all of it it just gets bunged in the freezer plus buying ingredients that may not be used and I hate wasting food.
It's easier to live off tofu and salad.
I have taken one good tip and added (a lot) more fat! I feel fuller for longer and food is a lot more palatable.
I have a lot of hummus in at the moment, leftover from a huge BBQ I went to last weekend. I am having a tiny bit of that per day, It's not too high in carbs.

I do feel quite bloated a lot of the time recently however. I wish I didn't. It's probably no worse than if I wasn't low carbing really.

MissBeckIsAtWork · 28/08/2024 09:25

Ooh, looks like we're all climbing back on the wagon after various reasons for going AWOL. I haven't even weighed since before my holiday weeks ago, so goodness knows what damage the last 3 weeks has done. Nice to see the thread moving again though! Lunch at work today is prawn cocktail. 👌

DrBlackbird · 28/08/2024 10:00

In the middle of last week I was pleased to have dropped another .5lb but come yesterday after falling off the wagon over the weekend the scales disappointed me. So count me as another climbing back onboard the wagon and will try the weighing a bit later. The problem is that you have to plan for being LCHF whilst carbs are so easily available everywhere and generally are tasty 😭

BIWI · 28/08/2024 10:46

This is so true! I'm going to a reunion lunch shortly, and there were three choices for each course - all of which were high carb. Sometimes you just have to 'go with the flow' and enjoy it.

prettybird · 29/08/2024 11:16

I'm still here - struggling after falling off the wagon for a wee while and have now been back on the wagon for what I'm sure is weeks but the scales are still resolutely not shifting Hmm

But I'm KOKO and I know they will move eventuallySmile

prettybird · 29/08/2024 11:18

Supper last night was BIWI's fabulous and very easy cauliflower cheese Smile

...still have some leftovers which might end up being my lunch Grin

FinallyHere · 29/08/2024 17:38

Ohh, thanks @prettybird for the reminder of that cauliflower cheese. I have the ingredients here and shall enjoy exactly that this evening.

Your post only partially displayed initially and I had serious pangs of jealously when I thought it read ‘Supper last night was at BIWIs’…
Im still 150.4 - for the last few weeks. So around 0.2 over the month. Hilariously Happy scale suggests I’ll reach my goal of 140lbs in SEVEN years! 🤣
