Summer 23, Week 2: the first weigh in

Good Morning Campers Smile or it will be by the time most of you are reading this Wink

Here we are at Week 2 Smile. This is shaping up to be very supportive Boot Camp - everyone sharing their experiences, both the successes and the slip ups Flowers. You are all stars Star. I haven’t had to get the Big Stick out much as people have usually recognised what happened and worked out strategies for future challenges. Flowers

I’ll leave it to @FinallyHere to post the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness as people seem to have difficulties when I link from the App. HmmConfused

I’m expecting to see some great losses which is always really heartening Smile. It's always great seeing how newbies see that it really does work Smile

But don't despair if you haven't lost as much as others. Remember, this isn't a competition Shock. We're all here with different startpoints, and everyone loses at a different rate anyway. We all need to KOKO.

That’s also why we encourage taking measurements - usually if the scales aren’t moving, then the inches are! Grin downwards of course Wink

One more week of strict Boot Camp and then we can choose to go on to Boot Canp Light for those of us who want to Smile

The Rules are still the same: you can find them on the OP of the Week 1 thread and also in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

(I’m now on Week 3 but I’ll avoid talking about any of my Boot Camp Light variations for the moment Wink)

Welcome to Week 2 & thank you lovely @prettybird for opening the shutters

here is the link to Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

All welcome to log their weight loss, there is no pressure to do so. Lots of us prefer to weight more or less frequently than weekly and/or keep track of measurements or the fit of particular clothes.

The important thing for me is to stick to the boot camp 'rules' and trust the process

HappiDaze · 26/06/2023 01:06

One week completed not bad going so far

We are BC rockstars

Thanks for the new thread @prettybird and for your sorting hat abilities @FinallyHere

Morning everyone!
first weigh in and very happy this morning 😊

hope everyone has some fabulous lossess and a great start to the week. I’m just sat having my first coffee with cream, DH is on an early shift and managed to wake the entire house on his way out 😂

have a great day all!

YappyCamper · 26/06/2023 06:27

Morning all, looking forward to seeing all the weigh ins and hope you all had your hard work rewarded. I'm well chuffed with my first proper week - Ive lost so much that my Renpho scales asked if it was me or someone else this morning! They've asked me that before but never when the weight has gone down, always up 😳

Major building work starting here today so I'm up early to get a decent breakfast in before the chaos. Have a great day all 💪

LadyBird1973 · 26/06/2023 07:18

Good morning all. Hope today's weigh ins go well.
I'm 5lb down, which is lovely as I wasn't expecting much this week - I've been low carbing for a little while now (but much stricter this week) and I don't think I've had enough water for various reasons. So I really am very pleased,

This week I'm going to have a go at the cauliflower pizza mentioned on the last thread. Thank you for the recipe. And make a concerted effort to increase water.

I don't want to do measurements as I think I'll find it scary to see what mine really are at the moment. Instead, I'm judging by my clothes.
My NSV so far is that my ankle bracelet is a bit looser than it was, and a shirt that I bought for summer also seems more roomy than when I tried it on a few weeks ago, when I first bought it. So something is clearly happening, even if I can't really see it yet!

Random789 · 26/06/2023 07:23

I've only lost a pound.😏But I think that is because I had already begun a lite version of bootcamp a week or so before actual bootcamp, so I had already picked the low-hanging fruit (dropping from 69kg to 65.5). So now I am in the game of building the eating habits and attitudes that will hopefully bring some very gradual weight loss. I'm near the top of my healthy bmi range at the moment and I'd like to get into the lower half of it.
My intermediate goal for this week is to eat my evening meal more slowly and mindfully.
My self-care intention is daily use of the Shakti mat that i (perhaps foolishly) bought several months ago,

ItsAsIfWeWereThere · 26/06/2023 07:33

Morning everyone!
I’ve only lost a small amount this week, but I’m happy with that for various reasons, included that I’ve been low carbing for over a month now.
Im going to start IF this week, and also swapping cream for Almond milk in my coffee.
I’ve got a hellish week at work which could be made a lot worse if we get our now overdue OFSTED phone call. I’ve been organised with lunches though and have yummy crustless quiche and salad to look forward to for the next few days as well as some good snacks for emergencies.

Congratulations those who have posted losses so far and I look forward to reading more. It’s so inspiring to see this WOE working.

EvenmoreDetermined · 26/06/2023 07:36

Morning all, new thread, new name Grin. Thank you @prettybird and @FinallyHere for all your work on the threads and everyone else for general supportiveness.

I’m not on the spreadsheet but pleased to report a 5lb loss this week. My wedding and engagement rings come off more easily and some jogging bottoms that I bought a couple of weeks ago and were slightly too snug on the thighs now fit perfectly. It has been harder over the weekend, being out and about makes it harder to keep up water consumption and being around the carb-chomping family is harder too but its Monday, I have my food prepared and am ready to start the new week.

Andi2020 · 26/06/2023 07:53

@prettybird thanks for new thread
@FinallyHere could you fix the formula beside my name when I put in weight the loss part is empty not that it is much anyway but a loss is a loss and doing this few years so my avg is 1lb a week
Well done everyone on week 1
@YappyCamper excellent loss good luck with the major work.
@ListenLinda I hate that too when do on earlies gets up at 3.30 like that part to get bed to myself but then bangs something wakes the dog and he's barking thankfully kids are teenagers and manage to sleep through it.
Goodluck for week 2

SummerSazz · 26/06/2023 08:08

Morning all!

Some great losses by the sounds of it 👏

I'm 3lb down which is great, although had had a little rise last weekend so was expecting a good drop despite the weekend hosting friends.

KOKO all and 💦 💦 💦

TheOnlyMrsW · 26/06/2023 08:18

Morning all, welcome to a new week!!! Thank you again to @prettybird and @FinallyHere for running everything - nearly 4lb off which does feel very hard won!!! First night last night without a bathroom visit so I'm counting that as a win and keeping everything crossed that it carries on 😄.

Small portion of FFGY for breakfast along with 2 cups of peppermint tea, mushrooms and spinach fried in butter at lunch time and then tacos for tea made with chilli...........I'll have to avoid the beans (and the tacos themselves!)

Have a good week all.........

NotDonna · 26/06/2023 08:27

Morning all! I’m a week late to BC as away on holidays with DD2 who’s just finished A levels. I’m afraid too many cocktails and puddings so have gained a fair bit. Arrived home at 4am so jet lagged and exhausted with not much in the fridge. Some serious planning required today!

NotDonna · 26/06/2023 08:28

I need some salad ideas as the ones I have tend incorporate rice or quinoa etc.

YappyCamper · 26/06/2023 08:37

NotDonna · 26/06/2023 08:28

I need some salad ideas as the ones I have tend incorporate rice or quinoa etc.

Greek salad is always tasty if you like olives and feta??

I tend to chop up a load of salad vegetables at the start of the week and then add different proteins and fatty dressings to them for lunches. On the menu this week will be: roasted chicken thighs, tuna mayo with spring onion, avocado, mozzarella with little bit of sundried tomato (too carby to have often), probably fried halloumi at some point too.

A few of these look good: www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/recipes/salads

I also like fattoush and often make it for myself just leaving out the croutons. Find it hard to add enough fat to it though so have to eat with things like lardy kebabs and mayo

Stokey · 26/06/2023 08:41

Checking in for the week. Just over a pound off, not too much but going in the right direction. I've had a couple of transgressions so am not surprised. My aim this week is to stay on point. A couple of social events will be challenging.

@NotDonna Pret does a nice smoked salmon and egg one which I've recreated at home. Tuna nicoise without the potatoes is another favourite. I often just have leaves, tomatoes and slices of cheese and salami.

venusandmars · 26/06/2023 08:41

Down 2.8 lbs. I'm pleased with that as I tend to lose very gradually. Great to hear nice steady progress from others too. I wonder how much we've lost collectively in this first week. @FinallyHere is it possible to add that up?

I've got two different sets of friends coming today. A pal (and her dog) coming this morning for a walk and lunch, then friends coming later this afternoon to stay over. I'm pushing the boat out tonight well, showing off tbh a making a french inspired extravaganza. All the courses are quite small, but much more than I usually have so I'll be extra strict for the rest of the week.

B - I/F
L - cold meats, salads, cheese
D - asparagus and hollandaise mousse; bouillabaisse; duck cassoulet with creamed cabbage; french cheeses; choclate and armagnac souffle (I'll give that a miss)

venusandmars · 26/06/2023 08:45

@NotDonna I like salad nicoise: lots of leaves, plus tomato, cucumber, then green beans, boiled eggs, black olives and some lovely tuna - tinned or fresh for a special occassion. I also love a seafood salad: all the salady bits plus some prawn cocktail, smoked salmon, salmon mousse made with cream cheese, rollmop herring...

LittleMy77 · 26/06/2023 09:05

I’ve stayed the same which is fine and expected as we were away and went a bit off the first 2 week BC plan. Just glad I didn’t gain, plus I made and stuck to healthy choices which is a first!

venusandmars · 26/06/2023 09:26

@LittleMy77 I think of this as more than an 8 week bootcamp, it's learning to eat well for the whole of life. Of course there are events when strict bootcamp doesn't fit in well, but doing your best, making good choices and sticking to them is about learning for life.

The trap I can fall into is finding that every week, or every cople of days has a 'special event'...

FinallyHere · 26/06/2023 09:27

Great idea @venusandmars

Spreadsheet v2.0 coming up: I'll have a tinker right away, maybe add totals at the top. It may be interesting to see each week and anyone not interested can just not seek them out.

I've toyed with the idea of producing management reports, totals / week so we could compare results across bootcamps but have resisted. It isn't really comparing like with like and would easily get out of hand.

What has been working for me this time round of adopting this WoE has been to completely avoid any obsessions with weight loss and focus on what I can control directly.

What I can control is what I eat, so that's were I put my focus. Once I got the way of eating establishing, a few months in, I have been weighing myself ever 5-6 weeks, just to keep track.

My real measure has been dropping down jeans sizes ( from size 20 to size 8, since we are talking about it). Even that is only a relative measure since sizes vary so much across brands.

I trust that if I continue to follow the rules, low carb, high fat, FLGV and all the water, while only eating when I am hungry, I will enjoy my food, feel good about my choices and as a happy side effect, loose weight. At some point I expect that weight loss to tail off and that will be my new set weight. I'm just inside the healthy band now so anywhere would be good.

The band is about 20kg wide and I'm 10kg off my ideal weight do there could still be 10kg to go. But, for once in my life I'm relaxed about my weight and feel confident I have a sustainable way of eating

All good.

Oops , sorry, tat was a bit of a rant 😀

OldandTired66 · 26/06/2023 10:02

Lost1.8lbs which I'm very happy about since I was already BCLight but drifting into bad habits again. Still just over 200lbs by 0.18lb so grrr, but should be under next week, my first big milestone. In terms of NSV, no longer need any of my bra extenders! And can get into a pair of shorts I bought last summer in a burst of over optimism. According to my haphazard monitoring on myfitnesspal, my weight hasn't been this low since 2011 😳.

OldandTired66 · 26/06/2023 10:18

Forgot today's plan. B: Boiled egg, L: chicken salad, Going to @venusandmars for dinner, that sounds incredible. Failing that, Salmon, creamy savoy cabbage and broccoli. Then up at 3am to take someone to the airport 😬.

prettybird · 26/06/2023 10:25

I've not yet looked at the spreadsheet (thank you @FinallyHere Flowers) to see all the wonderful losses but I'll have a quick go through the posts now.

@YappyCamper - you'll have to give those Renpho scales a talking to Grin

@LadyBird1973 - that's a great start. It goes to show how being strict really does make a difference which is why I'm running this Boot Camp Blush

Clothes are also a good way to measure, even if you don't want to actually take measurements

@Random789 - I'm also only down a pound but there again, I've also already had a "whoosh" - down 9lb since sometime in early June --not sure about the actual date , 6lb since I started Strict Boot Camp 2 weeks ago.

A good reminder about the self-care objective - I'll have a think and do a separate post about it. Smile

@ItsAsIfWeWereThere - weight loss does indeed slow down. Also be aware of the stall that can happen around weeks 4 and/or 5 (and sometimes even Week 3) and don't be disheartened.

@EvenmoreDetermined - love the new name. Suits you!

@TheOnlyMrsW - congratulations on the loss *and not walking up during the night for a pee trip

@NotDonna - you've already had some good ideas for salad. Have a look at the veggie recipe thread too for inspiration @HedgehogHill also did a link in the last thread to a document in which she had put all the veggie recipes, making it easier to print off.

Get back on the wagon, drink *all the water and I'm sure the extra holiday weight will quickly disappear.

@Stokey - have you worked out strategies to address those social events? Even eating something like scrambled eggs beforehand can help.

@venusandmars - good idea about the totals on the spreadsheet Smile - although our results are very individual, so we need to remember that Wink. @FinallyHere - unless you can make the changes to the current spreadsheet, I'd suggest leaving linking to it until next week's link.

@FinallyHere - I'm still in awe at you dropping from a Size 20 to a size 8 Shock You also seem to have a lovely balanced approach to this WoE and know yourself well. Halo

@OldandTired66 - you know what you need to do Grin Stop that slide into bad habits Hmm You could also be in the doldrum weeks so it's all the more important to stick to the Rules. If you're on Boot Camp Light, only do it a couple of days and even then, make sure to do so in moderation.
