Summer 23, Week 2: the first weigh in

Good Morning Campers Smile or it will be by the time most of you are reading this Wink

Here we are at Week 2 Smile. This is shaping up to be very supportive Boot Camp - everyone sharing their experiences, both the successes and the slip ups Flowers. You are all stars Star. I haven’t had to get the Big Stick out much as people have usually recognised what happened and worked out strategies for future challenges. Flowers

I’ll leave it to @FinallyHere to post the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness as people seem to have difficulties when I link from the App. HmmConfused

I’m expecting to see some great losses which is always really heartening Smile. It's always great seeing how newbies see that it really does work Smile

But don't despair if you haven't lost as much as others. Remember, this isn't a competition Shock. We're all here with different startpoints, and everyone loses at a different rate anyway. We all need to KOKO.

That’s also why we encourage taking measurements - usually if the scales aren’t moving, then the inches are! Grin downwards of course Wink

One more week of strict Boot Camp and then we can choose to go on to Boot Canp Light for those of us who want to Smile

The Rules are still the same: you can find them on the OP of the Week 1 thread and also in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

(I’m now on Week 3 but I’ll avoid talking about any of my Boot Camp Light variations for the moment Wink)

Feeling for you @BloomingHazel, that must have awful and very scary. Boiled egg for breakfast as ever, planning salad niçoise for lunch as have a fancy jar of tuna (no potatoes), then home alone this evening so cheese omelette and broccoli probably. I love a 10 minute dinner as I'm usually cooking for 3. Scales are not being kind so buckling down for a couple of extra strict days and thinking about where I'm going wrong. Complacency mostly, I suspect and not being vigilant with lists of ingredients and never enough water.

HappiDaze · 01/07/2023 13:11

@BloomingHazel how unbelievably stressful for you. I hope your neighbour wasn't too hurt and that they can fix your house quickly.

I'm eating loads of cheese at the moment mainly because I love rollittos and they're such an easy go to. Especially as there was no point making Fajitas last night due to one thing or another with DC.

I'm eating a lot of FFGY which I know is great but I don't know if I'm over eating esp as I'm on the 10% fat one at the moment

I'll make sure I have more protein today and FLGV

There have been some very minor lapses. Everyday if I'm honest.

But I have also very much stuck to the WoE and not eaten many items trying to tempt me.

Less cheese more veg and protein.

But I think each day we feel different and crave something different too

prettybird · 01/07/2023 13:38

Blooming heck @BloomingHazel Shock

You're sounding calmer than I would be and altogether more together Flowers

How about baby sweetcorn with your pork (they're ok, whereas sweetcorn or sweetcorn kernels are not Hmm)? They microwave nicely in butter. Or asparagus If you can still get a hold of it. Cabbage (white, green or savoy) goes nicely with pork. It also microwaves well: thinly slice into a bowl, add a slab of butter, cover, microwave, shoogle then microwave again and then season.

BloomingHazel · 01/07/2023 15:26

Oooh, thank you for the side suggestions! The roasted cauliflower, cabbage and asparagus all sound really good. I'll have to see what looks good at the store. I just realised that I have to confirm with ILs that it will actually be here tonight though, as it's their turn to cook 🤔 we rotate every Saturday night for dinner.

I'm a daily weigher, and normally when I miss days of weighing the scales aren't kind. However, I'm seeing a loss this week so far (not as much as it would have been if I was cooking at home though), which is surprising considering it wasn't a great food week.

The neighbour has 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his arm, 1st and 2nd on his face. He needs to be seen by a specialist!

HappiDaze · 01/07/2023 19:49

B - coffee

L - FFGY

D - Yum just eaten chicken fajita but without the wrap

Chicken marinaded in Lidl's Batts Bbq rub from a packet and lemon juice and a bit of sirachia sauce with red pepper, lettuce and sour cream

Was going to make guacamole 🥑 but I wanted the avocados to be riper and I really couldn't be bothered is the truth

prettybird · 01/07/2023 22:56

Had a lovely supper tonight of a loin of lamb which I'd marinaded in olive oil, garlic and rosemary all afternoon and then fried briefly in a hot pan with more olive oil and then left to rest for 10 minutes before slicing (a Nick Nairn recipe from "Island Harvest"). It's served with boiled new potatoes to which a slab of butter and a loaf of finely chopped basil has been added. I of course didn't have the potatoes Halo but did have the buttery basil sauce Wink. I had green beans in garlic butter with mine.

Bloody hell @BloomingHazel . I’m glad you’re all physically ok. Hope you’re doing ok emotionally and dealing with the stress too.

ItsAsIfWeWereThere · 02/07/2023 08:06

Sorry - just seen your update about your neighbour. I hope his recovery goes well 💐

ItsAsIfWeWereThere · 02/07/2023 08:20

I’m much better at posting at the start of the week when the threads are shorter! I am reading everything though. And replying in my head which is a bad habit I have 😬

@cheesenotoast that view is spectacular!
thanks to whoever it was who recommended chilli cheesies. They’re sold out right now but they’re on my watchlist! I’ve ordered a multipack for now. There’s one flavour I’m not so keen on but I’ve forgotten which one. I guess I’ll find out soon…!

I’ve been (sort of) doing IF this week. I’ve had coffee with almond milk though in the mornings though. It’s been fine so far so I’ll continue with it in a sort of IF lite way for now.

I had a NSV buying new clothes this week. I ordered a pair of baggy white jeans from Zara (this in itself is a bit of a nsv. I’ve never ever ever worn white trousers before and wouldn’t have considered it, but increasingly I’ve liked the look on other people and I thought fuck it, I will try that too). Anyway I ordered size 16 as I find Zara a bit on the small side compared with other brands I buy. Anyway they came and I like them but they are WAY TOO BIG. Then I noticed that I actually had bought size 14 not 16 like I thought. So I’ll be returning them and getting a size 12 (and maybe even a 10 to try on just in case). I know that part of it is due to the style and them coming up a bit big anyway, - but even still I’ll take it as a victory!

Im taking Dd to BST festival at Hyde Park today. Will be a long afternoon I think. I’ll have lunch first and then I guess it’s a hot dog sausage for dinner. You’re not allowed to take any food in at all (this rule makes me so cross!) but I’ll see if there’s any way I can smuggle a few LCHF snacks in.

NotDonna · 02/07/2023 09:37

oh my goodness @BloomingHazel what a nightmare for you so and so very scary. Do you know how it started? Do hope your neighbour recovers quickly!

The big stick will get a proper workout with me as I’ve been quite shocking this weekend. Some of it unavoidable (Fridays event) but SIL over from Oz so it’s been a bit boozy. Could definitely have made better choices. I’ll not detail the whole weekend as you’ll all have heart attacks. And the big stick will be exhausted. What I have realised though is its peer influence. If everyone’s drinking champagne I find it v hard to resist then one leads to lots. I haven’t made poor food choices (other than Friday bc there were NO good choices) it’s drinks. Drinks at home are fine but when out it’s really not good. So I need to work on this!
Despite all that it does look like maybe a few pounds are off. My scales quickly flashed a number this morning (I’m a daily weigher) & then died - new batteries required.
I’ve a grocery delivery tomorrow so going to plan ALL the family’s food today and go booze free at upcoming events. KOKO xx

NotDonna · 02/07/2023 09:39

Ooh enjoy your festival @ItsAsIfWeWereThere I never find out about any of these things. DD3 would have loved that!!

Dogsbumhair · 02/07/2023 10:40

I'm a bit late to the party but can I join please? I'm going on holiday at the end of July and I need to get back into some good habits over the Summer

prettybird · 02/07/2023 10:47

Of course you can join @Dogsbumhair Flowers

@FinallyHere will add you to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness if you want to track your progress - although it's not compulsory. Wink

Have a skim over the Week 1 thread to get up to speed with The Rules and learn from the others' experiences.

We're on to Week 3 tomorrow which means Boot Camp Light for some of us - but you'll be best staying on the initial 2 weeks of strict Boot Camp - especially if it's only 4 weeks before you go off on holiday ShockGrin

Dogsbumhair · 02/07/2023 11:13

That's great thanks. Yes please, to adding me to the spreadsheet. Is there a link to Week one from this thread? Thanks again for letting me join in 😀

prettybird · 02/07/2023 11:19

Here's a link - but when I post them from the app, it seems not everyone can find it Confused so I've also tagged you on the Week 1 thread.

Enjoy BST @ItsAsIfWeWereThere, I've been before but not for a while so jot sure if food choices.
We managed to find a BBQ place yesterday to eat as our festival had pies, burgers or chips!!! I had a Cajun chicken salad and DH had pulled pork sandwich, mac and cheese and onion rings - is it any wonder I'm the size of a house, it's only recently that I've pushed back on eating when I'm not hungry and smaller portions than him!!! Definitely didn't drink enough water so ended up having 2 big pint glasses when we got back and was in the bathroom at 3am, feel hungover today so trying to get water in before we go. We've found a Toby carvery not far from the site for today, you can back as many times as you like for veg 😍😍😍.
Definitely think I will move to IF next week on BCL, it really doesn't bother me if I don't eat until lunch or even after most days.
Hope everyone has a good day

Dogsbumhair · 02/07/2023 12:05

That's great thanks, link worked. I will try and read and get in the right mindset (which is always the hard bit for me) I'm not overweight but I've put on half a stone in the last few months and I just need to try and get things to stabilise and shift that half a stone. I have a lot going on personally, me and my partner lost our dad's a few months ago within days of each other and my mum has Alzheimer's and dad was her carer until he got ill. So I'm now trying to support her long distance and I've got two young children. So basically I need things to be simple and I know that this way of eating is simple once I get my head in the right place and start getting some simple recipes in my head 😀

Baystard · 02/07/2023 13:06

@NotDonna I have a similar problem if I drink, even after just one I often say "fuck it" and wade waist deep into the crisps. I don't drink regularly for this very reason.

@BloomingHazel that sounds horrendous Flowers

Thanks for the idea of green beans in garlic butter @prettybird. It's lamb for dinner here too and I was wondering what to have. I'll probably make cauliflower mash and some buttery garlicky beans will go nicely.

@Dogsbumhair Welcome! Hope you find some usefully simple recipe ideas here. I really like BC during chaotic spells because even if I don't have time to cook, or I'm back late and eating at a different time to everyone else, I can rustle up a buttery veg omlette or a cheeseboard really easily.

HappiDaze · 02/07/2023 13:41

I'm terrible with booze especially when you have friends who top you up constantly with the old Prosecco or some cocktail they've rustled up

I can't say no and then of course I get ravenously hungry or just mindlessly pick at snacks lurking in front of me.

In fact it was the photos of me at recent events that made me say enough is enough and join on here.

I have to exercise great restraint the whole of next weekend but i will be prepared and make good choices.

It does help that we'll be on week 3 Boot Camp light but I'm avoiding so much cheese for now.

HappiDaze · 02/07/2023 13:44

Also what are everyone's suggestions for BC light favourite recipes and / or what are you looking forward to trying now it's allowed.

venusandmars · 02/07/2023 16:12

@HappiDaze almond and cheese muffins. I'm on my phone and can't link but they're on the recipe thread. Great with soup. Lovely with peanut butter if you're out and everyone else has a sandwich. Brilliant sliced in half and topped with smoked salmon and cream cheese.

@NotDonna one of the confusing things with alcohol is that because it dehydrates you, and you loose water, you can sometimes see an illusiatory drop in weight that might not be sustained once your body is fully hydrated.

And for me, the biggest challenge is that it weakens my resolve so I am tempted by all the carby snacks that often accompany drinks. Alcohol, high carb and high fat. Disaster!

venusandmars · 02/07/2023 16:22

On a family break so navigating round various food allergies and avoiding the home baking that's on offer. Have had low carb bread with cheese, ham, avocado, salads. BBQ with sausages, burger, halloumi, peppers, broccoli. Very small amount of sweetcorn. 3 cherries and one strawberry.

Today had a Sunday roast in a place which did the most amazing mixed selection of steamed veg - carrot, swede, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage. Ate loads of that. Plus mashed swede, some chicken and a tiny slice of Yorkshire pudding. One glass of wine. Tonight it's coconut laksa with sliced cabbage (noodles for the others). There's cheese for afters if needed.

The very good things have been sticking to 16/8 intermittent fasting and being able to say no to all snacks and ice cream.

Won't be able to weigh in tomorrow but will update later in the week.

HappiDaze · 02/07/2023 16:26

They sound great thanks I'll give them a go @venusandmars

BloomingHazel · 02/07/2023 16:53

Dinner was a hit last night, I ended up going with roasted cauliflower as I found a huge head that looked really good! I just added lots of butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder.

We are having salmon tonight, which I have been craving for a few days now. Green beans in garlic butter sounds good so I may cook that too, as well as the planned asparagus.

NotDonna the neighbour started it, he was burning some stuff in their small brick firepit, dumped water on it and went in the house. An hour & a half later, neighbours across the street saw flames and the wind was blowing in the direction of our house. The fence and shed caught alight and the flames reached the roof of our house.
We have a brick house. Most homes here seem to be stick built, so mainly wood. That's what saved our home or we would have completely lost everything, including possibly our son & dogs! We have smoke damage throughout and have to replace so much stuff 😪
Our insurance adjusters really want us to be out of the house, want to pay for us to stay somewhere else, but this is our home. We want to be here and have been told it's safe for us to do so. If the construction phase gets too much, we just have to make a phone call and we'll be taken care of.
Sorry that was really long!

FinallyHere · 02/07/2023 19:01

hello and welcome on board, @Dogsbumhair Your user name has been added to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness (SoF)

the weigh in sheet tab is available to log your weight, though there is absolutely no pressure to log: different things work for different people. Some like to weight weekly, monthly or even daily, I track my progress against a pair of white denim shorts which (i have now learned) caught now-DH's eye some ... ohhh decades ago. Thanks to this Way of Eating (WOE) I not only can fit into them, I can even do them up. :-) such a good feeling.

The other tabs on the SoF are worth a look, too, including meal plans and other resources. The week one threads which the lovely @prettybird pointed out also provides links to all the recipe threads, too.

And, of course, if you or anyone else spots anything that hasn't already been covered, there are lots of knowledgeable people on these threads to provide support and answers. Enjoy
