Week 3 - July 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - full-on or Light?

BIWI · 08/08/2022 08:48

Morning all!

Some good results already I see - which is great. Flowers

Here's the spreadsheet

A warning about week 3

We now have the choice. You can either stay on Bootcamp, or move to Bootcamp Light, which allows some fruit (mainly berries), some nuts/seeds (although check the carb counts, as they vary hugely) and alcohol in moderation.

However. Week 3 (and 4, and sometimes even 5) is notorious for seeing a change in the rate of loss. You may not see any loss, and you may even see a slight gain. If this happens to you, DON'T PANIC! It's totally, totally normal. As long as you're following the rules, and KOKO, things will resume. It's all about your body adjusting to this new regime.

So bearing this in mind, you may decide to stay on 'full-on' Bootcamp. Or, as some do, a hybrid, so Bootcamp during the week and then Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever your decision, I hope you have a good week.

@Chocasaurus if it gets uncomfortable take a laxative. Don't let it get bad (speaks from experience).
Nsv, in an attempt to sort out everyone this week I am chucking money at it so I took dd shopping yesterday, bought myself a new dress in a brand I wear a lot. I got a dress in a 12 and normally I have trouble doing the horrible side zip up without trapping my skin but I did with this one straight up easily.

I have far too many clothes.
Today we have bowling and shuffle board at a very trendy place. I will cheer my team up if it kills me (which it may I'm shattered). Need to go and get work food for the weekend and I really need some resolve at work as it's ridiculous how easily I fall down the chocolate trap.

catwithflowers · 11/08/2022 07:32

@SaSamhradh That's interesting. I've low-carbed on and off for several years (and also do low-carb light as I include nuts and some alcohol) but its just recently I've made the link between reduced inflammation and LCHF. It really is a revelation how many different health benefits there are, especially, for me, regarding blood pressure.

A month ago I was taking paracetamol and Naproxen every day, several times a day for hip pain which was also causing me to wake up through the night. I still have a little pain and stiffness but it's dramatically improved. 😊

Whicker · 11/08/2022 07:49

I’ve noticed similar in my joints. I thought it was creaky old age but I think there must have been inflammation which is now reduced.

Having coffee and cream in the garden before it gets too hot. The temperature is just right at the moment and I’m feeling very relaxed :)

BIWI · 11/08/2022 08:06

@catwithflowers it's all the benefits of low carbing above and beyond weight loss that keep me mostly on the wagon! When I realised I wasn't getting IBS any more, that was the first thing.

Over the years I've been running Bootcamps people have had similar, major revelations about their health. And not just the more obvious ones like blood pressure and cholesterol. We've also had several Bootcamp babies!

Urrrghh, just tested positive for COVID. Finally got me after 2+ years......

Don't feel too bad so far other than a piercing headache so fingers x'd.

Dd2's birthday tomorrow and we were supposed to be going to London to see Hamilton plus camping with friends tonight. Arse.

Holding here at 10.7 which I'm very pleased with. Just need to not fall into self pity carbs!!!

BIWI · 11/08/2022 08:29

Oh no! Sorry to hear that @SummerSazz Hope you make a swift recovery - in the meantime, plenty of drugs for that headache - intersperse something like Solpadeine (paracetamol and codeine) with ibuprofen. Take each one every four hours, so you're taking something every two hours. And try and sleep.

Sorry you're having to miss out on so much though. What a bummer Sad

SummerSazz · 11/08/2022 08:49

Thanks @BIWI. At least I can isolate in my garden and DC have been at their dads for the last few days so hopefully will swerve it.

I have solpadeine and ibuprofen so they are definitely on the menu. Any carbs in those? Grin

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 11/08/2022 09:07

Morning!

@venusandmars I spent four days in Edinburgh last week doing the festival - it was fantastic, I had a great time. Walked over 30 miles in the time I was there too!

@SummerSazz - sorry to hear it's got you. It seems rife atm again.

@BIWI - your dinner last night sounds absolutely delicious, it's definitely going on the meal planner that one.

Weigh in - I'm ahead of you all slightly so had my week three weigh in this morning. Lost 4lbs and im very pleased.

Have a lovely day everyone. Smile

Sunsnowsun · 11/08/2022 09:12

Hi, please can I join you, I’ve done bootcamp before but under a different name. I’ve slipped into eating more carbs over the last year and my weight has slowly crept up. I feel so much more healthy and lighter on low carb.
I did weigh on Monday so I can put that weight in if someone could add me to the spreadsheet please?
thanks

Chocasaurus · 11/08/2022 10:13

@SummerSazz hope you feel better quickly.

@ditavonteesed the laxatives are out! @venusandmars the bulletproof coffee recipe makes me feel ill! Have settled for a strong one this morning instead. @Lougle I'll make more of a conscious effort to drink little and often, thanks .

My brunch was as delicious as I anticipated 😋 A morning of cleaning and baking, then my B12 injection and a bit of shopping. If only every day was a day to myself 😆

Chocasaurus · 11/08/2022 10:27

@WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa great week 3 weigh in 👏

bella1426 · 11/08/2022 11:13

Hello everyone, I dropped off the radar there for a couple of weeks as I was hospitalised with bacteria pneumonia! Was at the mercy of beige hospital food for 3 days and not really too concerned about my diet while recovering but feeling better now and getting back into it, actually missed that feeling of being satisfied with 3 meals a day, with carbs I seem to be constantly thinking of food and snacks

bella1426 · 11/08/2022 11:15

Food today

Fasting till 12
Lunch - salad with salmon and avocado
Afternoon snack - taking my son to cinema so making a picky box of turkey, Brie and olives
Dinner - cod with salsa verde, roast brocolli and cauliflower

2 bottles of water down and 2 to go!

prettybird · 11/08/2022 11:34

Welcome back @Sunsnowsun Flowers

I'm sure @FinallyHere will put your name on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness Smile

FinallyHere · 11/08/2022 11:58

Welcome @Sunsnowsun you have been added to the spreadsheet

Thank you @prettybird for the heads up.

Baystard · 11/08/2022 17:25

That sounds horrendous @bella1426 , hope you recover smoothly Flowers

I got a half price freshly roast chicken this afternoon and will have it with salad tonight. It says 'extra tasty' so I suspect processed or sugary coating is what's making it the appealing golden brown colour but I'll just not eat the skin (can't be bothered cooking tonight, it'll feed the family and at £2.75 I wasn't to be deterred). Plenty of salad, prob a bit of cheese.

Lougle · 11/08/2022 18:47

@SummerSazz that's really disappointing for you. I hope you can entertain yourself.

@bella1426 sorry you've been so poorly too!

I have the challenge of my life on Saturday (only slight exaggeration). It's DD2's birthday and she wants tiramisu cake. I adore tiramisu, so I'm going to have to be very disciplined when I make it.

Lucienandjean · 11/08/2022 19:04

Not sure if this is a victory or not, but I've managed to wean myself on to drinking a macchiato rather than a flat white when I go out for coffee. It's a fraction of the milk in a flat white so I'm hoping that'll help to keep my carbs low.

Today's food:
B: nothing
L: tuna mayonnaise, salad veg, cheese, 4 blackberries!
D: low carb chilli, sour cream, avocado, cucumber
S: rollitos.

Plenty of water. I think I'm struggling a bit again to get it all down but I've managed 2.5 litres so far today which is fine I think. Time for a bit more before bed.

PennyPinkPineapple · 11/08/2022 19:37

Thanks @Lougle
I've done WW a few times and I'm so used to counting and weighing when trying to lose weight that this all feels a bit strange. I must admit I've enjoyed tucking into a whole avocado without feeling bad!

B - Leftover sausage and ratatouille from last night

L - Mozzarella and avocado

D - Chicken breast (husband doesn't like thighs so put extra OO on mine) with roasted cauliflower and broccoli

Water...I've only done about 2L so far, need to get more in before bed

PennyPinkPineapple · 11/08/2022 19:38

@bella1426 that sounds awful, glad you're feeling better Flowers

BIWI · 11/08/2022 20:44

@PennyPinkPineapple well your husband is going to have to get used to eating chicken thighs, isn't he? Why should you adapt your cooking to suit him?!!!

OP posts:
PennyPinkPineapple · 12/08/2022 08:06

@BIWI to be fair there are only two other things he won't eat so I'll go with it but I am thinking about making a butter chicken curry on Saturday night with thighs and just not saying anything 🤐😂

bella1426 · 12/08/2022 11:19

Morning everyone, in between the heatwave and the full moon I had a crap sleep but hey it's Friday and I shouldn't complain about the sun (even though I bloody hate it going over 25 degrees unless I'm by a pool and have air con!)
My meal plan today

B - coffee with cream (quite a few!)
L - repeat of last nights cod with salsa verde and roast brocolli and cauliflower with a sprinkle of grated cheddar
S - boiled egg & mayo
D - salmon and avocado salad

Currently trying to make a plan for next weekends food and drink. Going on a 2 day hen so will be tricky to be 100% on plan but I'm going to do my best! A lot of it will be in the house so can bring my own stuff, will attempt to stick mainly to the soda water and limes and coffee and creams (not boozing as minding myself after pneumonia so that will help) any other ideas of drinks I could bring? I know sweetneer is not plan compliant but better than going for anything sugary I guess if I am going to veer off course at all? Nosecco etc full of sugar

prettybird · 12/08/2022 13:02

I'm sticking at 12st 10.25lb despite being mostly very good all week Hmm

Never mind: I'll just need to up my water Grin

BasiliskStare · 12/08/2022 13:32

So any advice ?

I am not coping well with the heat & I think I am simply not eating enough as when I get hot I don't feel like eating. I have dropped 4lb since the weekend but not sure if that is the whoosh or just not eating enough.

So Sunday & Monday baked Salmon with avocado mixed with creme fraiche and salad. Tuesday half a burger ( proper meat based one ) with salad , broccoli. yesterday could not face anything so I had quarter of a pot of chicken soup just to get something inside me.

I do want to lose weight but in a properly sustainable fashion. I have been feeling lethargic . I am drinking as much water as I can . I'm thinking of introducing few carbs to see how it goes ( so this evening DH & DS are going to have sushi. I know it has rice in it but I think I might give it a go. )
