Week 3 - July 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - full-on or Light?

BIWI · 08/08/2022 08:48

Morning all!

Some good results already I see - which is great. Flowers

Here's the spreadsheet

A warning about week 3

We now have the choice. You can either stay on Bootcamp, or move to Bootcamp Light, which allows some fruit (mainly berries), some nuts/seeds (although check the carb counts, as they vary hugely) and alcohol in moderation.

However. Week 3 (and 4, and sometimes even 5) is notorious for seeing a change in the rate of loss. You may not see any loss, and you may even see a slight gain. If this happens to you, DON'T PANIC! It's totally, totally normal. As long as you're following the rules, and KOKO, things will resume. It's all about your body adjusting to this new regime.

So bearing this in mind, you may decide to stay on 'full-on' Bootcamp. Or, as some do, a hybrid, so Bootcamp during the week and then Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever your decision, I hope you have a good week.

@Whicker I'm not naturally a cake person so don't struggle too much with sweet stuff but bread is my nemesis. I don't have any strategies other than 'don't take that first bite!' I usually try and eat before I go and sometimes take a contribution to snacky things like rollitos, olives, mozarella etc

@Chocasaurus I agree the Caesar salad will be unfulfilling for dinner and would choose the steak with tomorrows and ask for rocket and Parmesan instead of the potatoes. Chicken and aubergine sounds nice too. I couldn't read the last one. That Indian menu is rather more challenging than normal - I'd usually have some kind of tikka dish (theirs seem expensive though) and bhindi bhaji (okra) but they don't seem to have that. I have asked for extra salad before which is usually just a garnish.

BIWI · 09/08/2022 10:00

That Indian menu, while sounding very delicious, is not the easiest to navigate @Chocasaurus!

I'd be tempted to ask for two starters for my main, and go with the spinach as my side (although I can't read the menu very clearly - even if I enlarge it, it still goes very fuzzy)

For the Italian, I'd have the burrata to start (ask them not to serve it with bread), and then either the steak or the grilled chicken - no potatoes, but extra veg or salad.

Omg I need the win today, so I attempted to fix the leaking pipe under the bathroom sink, I'm wet and that is a million times worse, my friend is coming to rescue me shortly.

Dds brand new laptop has died, screen went weird and power button won't work so need to take that back to curry's and have an argument with someone.
Also that happened about 2 in the morning when I was fast asleep so after consoling dd I got barely any sleep last night. I'm tired and generally just really fed up.
Nothing ever just goes how it's supposed to here and I'm so stressed.
Sorry don't know why the over sharing but I needed to get it off my chest.

5thWisdom · 09/08/2022 11:17

@ditavonteesed I'm sorry these things have happened. Focus on the solutions to get them sorted, and stay strong. Tiredness is the worst for wanting to comfort myself with food so just keep reminding yourself of the benefits this WOE is bringing you. This is a comfort to me when I'm feeling low.

I'm just eating some strawberries with my Greek yoghurt for first time since starting BC- both from Lidl. I'm in heaven. This honestly feels like such a treat.

BIWI · 09/08/2022 11:49

Sorry to hear about your day @ditavonteesed Flowers

But focus on the positives - you have a friend who can help you, and if the laptop is new you should be able to get at the very least a free repair, if not a replacement, surely? And without an argument with Curry's, I hope!

Things always feel worse when you're tired. Will you have the opportunity to go back to bed for a nap?

Yesterday
B - Greek yogurt with cream
L - Chicken Salad
D - Sausages with roasted courgette/aubergine and broccoli/cauliflower cheese

Today
B - Bacon, egg & mushrooms
L - Bolognese, green beans with parmesan
D - Chicken with asparagus, courgette, babycorn & spinach with added oil or butter

Very busy day today so hopefully I'll manage plenty of water

ditavonteesed · 09/08/2022 16:06

Tap is fixed, da laptop has had to be sent off and they charged us £110 as they said it's accidental damage but she didn't do anything. Can't find an email for curry's but I will. Grrr. Plus side I haven't been hungry at all.

I had a soaky bath, with a fancy bath bomb, except it had popping candy in it which was not relaxing as with all the plumbing issues I though the bath was cracking and I was about to end up in the dining room.

Bought new pjs and had a lovely nap so ready to reface the day now.

ImAvingOops · 09/08/2022 16:26

Curry's imo are shit at taking responsibility for their products once they have your money. I swear that I will never buy anything more complex than a replacement cable from them ever again after arguments to get tech support with a broken laptop (that just failed, I didn't break it)!

Been doing okay I think. Had live life low carb toast with almond butter for breakfast, smoked salmon and salad with a few ricotta stuffed mini peppers for lunch.

Have been making iced coffee in this heat - the Littles hazelnut flavour is nice, if anyone wants to avoid the syrups.

Chocasaurus · 09/08/2022 16:33

@ditavonteesed sorry to hear you've had such a stressful day, but good progress on sorting the issues and well done for taking time out to recharge.

@BIWI @SummerSazz thanks for the suggestions. Not sure what happened with the Indian menu so I'm hoping this link works instead if there are any other ideas based on being able to dechiper it!

Hello everyone,
Is it too late to join you?
I've just come back from a two week holiday and something needs to change. I read your week 2 thread and am feeling inspired to give LCBC a go.

BIWI · 09/08/2022 17:43

You're very welcome @PennyPinkPineapple ! Just make sure you've read the rules (on the spreadsheet) and then jump right in.

Lunch chicken and roasted veg , cold with mayo
evening meal , cod in Parma ham and mushrooms ,
hopefully getting back into it this week
too hot for Pilates tonight though

Baystard · 09/08/2022 20:07

I said I was doing strict bootcamp for another week and I've been very good generally - today's theme was eggs.

Slipped a little on the alcohol and dairy tonight though when I decided to have a little whipped cream for pudding. But, I have found have found my new favourite thing! Couple of tablespoons of moderately-whipped double cream (I'd have gone with clotted cream if I'd had some and not needed to use up some double i have in fridge) and...a teaspoon of amaretto drizzled over it! I might try creme de mure or chambord next time. It probably seems like a silly little thing but it felt like a real treat.

Lucienandjean · 09/08/2022 20:10

I haven't been able to weigh myself yet this week, as I'm away camping. I'll fill my weight in on the spreadsheet on Thursday.

I've found being away that I feel more hungry! I don't know if it's the fresh air or more activity, but I seem to get hungrier than usual in the mornings (when I usually fast). So I'm definitely eating more, though still low carb stuff. Not sure if that'll result in a gain on the scales though.

venusandmars · 09/08/2022 20:24

@ditavonteesed life crap is just the worst. We have a broken dishwasher. Paid £130 to get it fixed 3 months ago. Looks like we will have to replace it.

In a big 'debate' with window company. Needed 4 leaking ones replaced, and new front door, and one window mended (handle / opening is kaput). They've done the easy things - charged us loads for the replacement windows - but they clearly don't want to do the 'difficult' things.
WC: here's the brochure - which door do you want?
US: that one
WC: there's a supply problem, we'll get back to you
US (4 months later): the door?
WC: that one is no longer available, choose a different one
US: OK, this one
WC: fine, where do you want the window panels?
US: in X spot
WC: that interferes with the locking mechinism
US: where can we have them?
WC: there
US: OK. Now when will we get the door fitted?
WC: where do you want the letterbox?
US: in X spot
WC: that is not possible because of the window panel
US: where can we have it?
WC: in X spot
US: OK. Now when will we get the door fitted.

Ditto for the broken handle which now can't be mended (a previous style) and now needs a new window. 7 bloody months!!

And I had a terrible circular argument with my electricity supplier because I want a paper bill. It circled around me asking to retain my paper bill and them telling me that to request that I had to create an online account and request it through that. I don't want to create an online account, I just want to keep getting my paper bills through the post. I'm mostly incensed by it because my 92 year old in-laws would not even mange to get through the tortuous process of contacting them. There's clear statements about if you are elderly and need help / request a paper bill then they will help you do that. But actually not. Unless someone is sitting at your side creating a fake email address and setting up an online account, so that you can log your communication preferences. What a joke!

Phew! That was an even longer rant than yours @ditavonteesed Grin

B - coffee with cream
L - schneiderbrot protein bread (sort of like a rye bread and 4g carb per slice) with salami, mayo, tomatoes. Disappointing avocado
D - confit duck leg, cabbage and green beans in butter

ditavonteesed · 09/08/2022 20:31

@venusandmars 😂 feel better for that? You think I may have ont actually everything is making me sad or anxious. (Possibly also worrying about next week)
Had a lovely simple chicken salad with garlic mayo for dinner.

Lougle · 09/08/2022 20:56

I still haven't got my mojo back even though I never stopped bootcamp. I'm still hanging on to the 0.5kg gain, too. DD2 has friends sleeping in the garden tonight and we did a small BBQ. The hot dog rolls smelled heavenly so while I resisted, I felt curmudgeonly doing so.

I also had a really bad tummy today. I think it was the start of an IBD flare.

B - IF
L - slice of goats cheese
D - lamb burger & sausage with salad.

Fluids 3L

catwithflowers · 09/08/2022 21:08

@BIWI Do you know if there is any research into links between a low-carb diet and osteoarthritis? I ask because I have osteoarthritis in my hip and have been prescribed anti-inflammatories but I stopped taking them about two weeks ago because the pain in my hip had reduced substantially.

I mentioned last week that my blood pressure, which was on the high side, had reduced to levels I hadn't seen since my thirties, apart from when pregnant. The only thing I have changed recently is a bit more exercise (lifting light weights) and diet

BIWI · 09/08/2022 21:37

@Lougle I'm sorry you're feeling so flat - but I have to ask you, why are you eating so little? And where's your veg/salad? It's important that you eat properly. Just cutting down isn't going to help and risks you not getting proper nutrition

OP posts:
BIWI · 09/08/2022 21:38

@catwithflowers low carbing is supposed to help with inflammation, so I can quite see why you would see improvements in your osteoarthritis. Similarly with blood pressure. Sounds like it's all going really well for you!

@BIWI this morning I was running back and forward to the toilet so I couldn't face food. I had a slice of goats cheese at lunch time just to get something into me. I felt a bit better in the afternoon so I had a big salad, a lamb burger and 2 sausages. Not the most balanced day, but it was what I could manage.

I think it's just a run of bad migraine days, stress (which don't help the migraines) and now IBD flare.

pinknsparkly · 09/08/2022 22:04

Hi all, we're away on holiday this week so I'm not able to weigh in. It's proving a wee bit challenging to stay on track since a lot of meals are being catered for us by friends who are absolute carb fiends, and my husband keeps buying my daughter and I ice creams whenever we're out and about. We're also out and about most of the day with limited access to toilets so I'm not drinking nearly enough water. I'm doing the best I can, but certainly don't expect to have lost over the last two weeks when I weigh in next Monday..... 😢it's lovely to read about everyone's losses though - it's helping inspire me to do the best I can!

catwithflowers · 09/08/2022 22:07

BIWI thank you. For the research link and for all the work you put in here. ⭐️

BIWI · 09/08/2022 22:09
