Week 3 - July 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - full-on or Light?

BIWI · 08/08/2022 08:48

Morning all!

Some good results already I see - which is great. Flowers

Here's the spreadsheet

A warning about week 3

We now have the choice. You can either stay on Bootcamp, or move to Bootcamp Light, which allows some fruit (mainly berries), some nuts/seeds (although check the carb counts, as they vary hugely) and alcohol in moderation.

However. Week 3 (and 4, and sometimes even 5) is notorious for seeing a change in the rate of loss. You may not see any loss, and you may even see a slight gain. If this happens to you, DON'T PANIC! It's totally, totally normal. As long as you're following the rules, and KOKO, things will resume. It's all about your body adjusting to this new regime.

So bearing this in mind, you may decide to stay on 'full-on' Bootcamp. Or, as some do, a hybrid, so Bootcamp during the week and then Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever your decision, I hope you have a good week.

Well done everyone on their losses.

Just weighed, I've STS at 123lb - I've stuck to the rules to the letter (no sugar, no alcohol, carbs from veg etc) so hopefully this is normal after quite a big loss last week. Please tell me this is to be expected (I've just read your week 3 update BIWI so hopefully yes!)

I'm staying off the alcohol (I'm going to aim for the whole 8 weeks of bootcamp) but would like to intro some berries to my yoghurt and hopefully this won't make much difference, carb wise.

Bring on week 3!!

FancyFelix · 08/08/2022 08:57

Morning all, I have completely missed week 2 due to a holiday. 2lbs on which isn't so bad and I'm planning to shift it again this week. So no bootcamp light for me, I'm back to week 1 and off to make some coleslaw for later.

Egg in a cup for breakfast 😋

Have a good week everyone

ChairOfInvisibleStudies · 08/08/2022 08:59

Morning everyone. I've lost 1.5 lb which I am trying to tell myself is fine but secretly I'm a bit disappointed. I'd hoped to lose a bit more over the first two weeks before the week 3/4 slowdown. I do know this works though so no plans to fall off the wagon into a vat of carbs just yet Grin

BIWI · 08/08/2022 09:20

@5thWisdom You lost 5lbs in the first week, which is really good - especially as it looks like you really don't have much weight to lose - I'd be delighted if I were you!

Adding berries to your yoghurt should be fine, just be careful as not all are equal in terms of carbs. Blueberries are 9.1g carbs per 100g, whereas strawberries are 6.1g and raspberries are 5.1g.

OP posts:
BIWI · 08/08/2022 09:22

... although according to Sainsbury's website, blueberries are 8.7g carbs peer 100g, so not quite as high - but still something to beware of!

OP posts:
5thWisdom · 08/08/2022 09:22

Thanks @BIWI - I will stick to strawberries and raspberries - and not mountains of them!

BIWI · 08/08/2022 09:23

But overall you've lost 6lbs @ChairOfInvisibleStudies! In 2 weeks.

ImAvingOops · 08/08/2022 09:26

Good morning everyone. Have lost 1.5lb this week, which isn't very good, but is my own fault because life got in the way and I wasn't as strict as I should have been. I think it is hard to do this in the summer when there are holidays and boozy afternoons in pub gardens with old friends!
Anyway, I've decided to go back to the start and do 2 weeks of strict bootcamp rather than the light version to get myself back on track properly.
Best of luck to those weighing in today.

TheOnlyMrsW · 08/08/2022 09:27

2lbs down and will stick to BC until Thursday and then we're away again for gigs/festivals and their usual challenges! Made a really yummy fish pie on Saturday - fish pie mix, chorizo, frozen spinach and a tub of full fat soft cheese to make the sauce with 2 chopped hard boiled eggs, cauliflower mash on top with some cheese and chucked in the oven. Served with broccoli and was lush, DH even asked for seconds (which I said no to as I want it for lunch today!!!).

I always struggle with water at weekends, but yesterday went for a long walk up a local witchy hill with a friend so made sure to take lots with me 😊.

Just had a huge omelette with mushrooms, more spinach, sundried tomatoes and leftover pork belly so my lunch might need to wait until tomorrow!

Hope everyone has a good week - results day is fast approaching and DD is getting more and more moody so need to make sure that doesn't derail things.

BIWI · 08/08/2022 09:32

@ImAvingOops don't judge yourself so harshly - despite life/summer etc, you have still lost just shy of 4lbs. In 2 weeks.

I'd say that's pretty good overall - remember, we're taking a long-term perspective here. As we often say, 'it's a marathon not a sprint'. Sadly

Baystard · 08/08/2022 09:35

This was my first week and I've been very strict with myself (I'm already fat adapted). Including what would be pre-period weight that dropped during the week I'm weighing 8lb lighter than I did last Monday evening. No wonder I felt like a bloated hippo last weekend Shock

Obviously ongoing loss will be significantly slower now I've lost all that water, but it's given my confidence an enormous boost.

I'm a week behind and since I'm still slightly heavier than I finished last BC I'm going to stick with strict BC for another week.

Well done all the losers but especially to the KOKOers which is arguably even harder Flowers

BIWI · 08/08/2022 09:35

@bandbsmummy welcome! A dairy allergy shouldn't hinder progress here - there's no need to have cream/cheese/yoghurt anyway. And there are plant-based alternatives that work well (although you will need to be careful about the carb counts of those).

Can you eat butter? If not, then just use oil - coconut oil and olive oil for frying, or lard, and olive oil for dressings, sesame oil drizzled on stir-fries. And mayonnaise too - just check there's no dairy added.

@LesleyA

Have a look at the spreadsheet - linked to in my OP - and you'll find Bootcamp rules there, as well as a whole load of other information about low carbing in the resources section.

You might also find the preparation thread helpful, along with the FAQs thread

@Bunce1 I hope you have a lovely holiday - very envious of your trip. It's far too long since we last went to France Envy

But be careful with your choices. I know you don't have very much to lose, but you could very easily regain what you've lost so far on Bootcamp, no matter how 'mindful' you are!

I'm going to keep checking in from Italy keep myself on track. Bad travel day yesterday, arrived very late and no proper shops open so had far too carby snack stuff. Back on it this morning with huge slices of tomato and mozzarella, gorgonzola and boiled egg. I'm finding i can quite easily leave the bread and pastries that the others are eating, I just don't really crave it anymore.

ChimneyPot · 08/08/2022 10:12

@Lougle it is very frustrating when you are trying to lose the last pound or two
@Baystard 8lbs is amazing when you are already fat adapted.

I am very happy with a week 3 for me loss of 2.5lbs especially as most of the week was spent in Centerparcs with DS where I had no idea what hidden carbs could have been in any of the sauces and there wasn’t nearly enough green veg any time I ordered a side.

I do think my carb cravings have really eased off. I have watched DS eat stacks of pancakes and not been tempted. There are even scones, my biggest weakness, in the kitchen that I haven’t considered eating.

My plan is to do BC light but to be very careful with the “extras”. Alcohol at weekends only. Berries and nuts only in very small amounts and not every day.

I am going away glamping with DH next weekend to somewhere with a great restaurant. The lunch and dinner should be easy enough to manage but they deliver breakfast and I think it is very carby so I might ask if they could store my yoghurt in their fridge and I could have that.

10lbs in 3 weeks is the motivation I need to keep going.

SummerSazz · 08/08/2022 10:41

1lb off which I'm happy with as down to 10.7, my original target from Jan bootcamp and I've been BC light since then.

Have lost 16.5% of my body weight since Jan 10th which incredible really Smile

Will work slowly towards 10 and then hopefully maintain between 10 and 10 1/2

Well done to all you losers Grin

bandbsmummy · 08/08/2022 11:15

Thanks @BIWI, yes I'm trying to cut out alternatives altogether as they are so processed (except oat milk in coffee once a day although I need to check carbs.)

No butter even sadly, it's CMPA rather than lactose. I found some avocado oil yesterday in Tesco so will be checking carbs on that as a change from olive.

Lougle · 08/08/2022 11:26

@bandbsmummy oat milk is 10g/100g carbs. Alpro no sugars almond milk is 0g/100g (watch out though because the 'Barista' version is sweetened).

cupcakedaisy · 08/08/2022 11:40

1lb down this week. Going to add a few nuts this week carefully as I am rather fond of them and can find myself snacking mindlessly through them. I am aiming to weigh out my daily allowance and then getting my dh to hide them as I have NO willpower when it comes to nuts.

Congratulations to all and bring on week 3.

BIWI · 08/08/2022 11:53

@cupcakedaisy check out the nut carb counter on the spreadsheet

Well I lost 3lb since last weighing - so I am happy - if that continues I am happy with slow but sure . I was a little downbeat with no loss over most of the last two weeks - but I think as others have said slow but steady could win the race.

prettybird · 08/08/2022 12:45

12st 10.25lb, so another 1lb Smile That's 5.5lb in total. Smile

Slightly disappointed that I didn't manage to eke out another 1/2lb since Friday Hmm, despite my virtuosity on Friday Halo, but I know it will come Smile (or is that "go"? Wink)

I did have a small glass of wine last night and dessert of strawberries and raspberries and cream as my dad was over for dinner Blush

Main course last night was low carb lasagne (recipe in the beef etc recipe thread) - plenty left over for tonight (pasta half for ds, courgette half for dh and me).

Saturday we had thick cut grass fed fillet steaks from Lidl (salted in advance and then cooked with loads of butter with thyme, turning and basting the steaks regularly), which I had with fried shallots and asparagus spears roasted in some olive oil.

Mercedesbenz2022 · 08/08/2022 12:48

Just 1 lb down , koko
well done to everyone x

Lidl steaks are lovely - the rib eye are my favourite cooked as you say with loads of butter, garlic and herbs.

We have steak tonight from Morrisons and doesn't look quite so nice sadly
