Week 3 - July 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - full-on or Light?

BIWI · 08/08/2022 08:48

Morning all!

Some good results already I see - which is great. Flowers

Here's the spreadsheet

A warning about week 3

We now have the choice. You can either stay on Bootcamp, or move to Bootcamp Light, which allows some fruit (mainly berries), some nuts/seeds (although check the carb counts, as they vary hugely) and alcohol in moderation.

However. Week 3 (and 4, and sometimes even 5) is notorious for seeing a change in the rate of loss. You may not see any loss, and you may even see a slight gain. If this happens to you, DON'T PANIC! It's totally, totally normal. As long as you're following the rules, and KOKO, things will resume. It's all about your body adjusting to this new regime.

So bearing this in mind, you may decide to stay on 'full-on' Bootcamp. Or, as some do, a hybrid, so Bootcamp during the week and then Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever your decision, I hope you have a good week.

Huge NSV here!!! Am feeling better despite covid and decided to try on some holiday clothes. As I was rooting through my wardrobe I came across a brand new pair of Hobbs jeans I bought in c.2012 in a size 10 (I'd lost 4 stone then and they were a present to me but for some reason I didn't wear them and then slowly started putting 2.5 stone on). Previously they didn't even go over my knees Blush but today they were on AND did up!!! Shameless pics attached!!

Sorr@comfortablyfrumpy hope you are feeling better x

And thanks for the physilliam powder link, I've ordered some and will try some bread in my breadmaker

FinallyHere · 14/08/2022 13:17

Gratters @SummerSazz

Looking good

comfortablyfrumpy · 14/08/2022 13:53

Thanks @SummerSazz but it is @ditavonteesed who's poorly, not me!

And what a NSV - fantastic result. You must be so chuffed.

I have jeans in so many sizes, a while ago I went through them and sorted them by size. Every few weeks I am able to go down the pile to a smaller pair, it is a lovely feeling!

ditavonteesed · 14/08/2022 14:36

@SummerSazz those jeans look amazing excellent nsv

Lougle · 14/08/2022 14:44

Wow, they look great!

FinallyHere · 14/08/2022 15:26

Same here, @comfortablyfrumpy

Though I am often struck with how differently I feel about wearing something, when going down a size rather than going up a size. 😄

PennyPinkPineapple · 14/08/2022 15:54

@BIWI It's my new favourite side dish, shallots and chilli flakes sound delicious.

I'm going to try kale next week too @SummerSazz thanks 😋

SummerSazz · 14/08/2022 16:29

Thanks all. Def given me the imepetus to KOKO with this woe full time. 7 months and 4 days so far....

@ditavonteesed sorry, got mixed up! Are you feeling better today?

My physilliam powder arrived today (a day early!) so will try the bread later. Not sure if the breadmaker will work but will report back!

Salmon with chilli and green veg with butter for tea

Well ....... today I caved (a little). We had the kids and their partners round for lunch and I cooked chicken and home grown veg and salad. It was lovely and I had one of our (I chose the smallest one!) home grown potatoes. It was so delicious.

After 4 weeks of no potatoes, bread, pasta, rice it was just so nice. And I don't feel any need to eat carby food for the foreseeable future. It was the fact that we had grown it that made me want to taste it 😂. The rest of the veg was so Bootcamp friendly, green beans, courgettes lettuce, cucumber, chicken with skin and Caesar salad dressing. But I don't regret that one little potato 😂😂😂

I should say before BIWI gets her stick out, I am a long time low-carber and intermittent faster who takes occasional breaks if we are going on holiday or out for a special dinner. I am not advocating cheating but it seemed criminal to grow something so nice and not try a tiny bit! The rest of the crop will be donated to friends and family as my husband is now also following a LCHF plan. Obviously he wasn't when he planted the potatoes 😂😂😂

ChairOfInvisibleStudies · 14/08/2022 18:00

Hello everyone, have been trying to keep up with the thread but struggling for time at the moment - relocating 400 miles next week so it's chaos here! Have been sticking to bootcamp with the odd bit of bootcamp light - a couple of Brazil nuts one day, a couple of squares of dark chocolate another - nothing crazy 😂 I'm going to do my hardest to stick to it during the move but it might be tricky; definitely no intention to fall into full carby twattery but my choices may be quite limited at times.

Hope everyone else is well and doing ok in the heat.

ditavonteesed · 14/08/2022 18:12

@SummerSazz unfortunately worse today. Not sure what to do food wise as nothing is staying with me for very long tmi sorry.
@catwithflowers I would have had to sample them as well. I do carb refeed every 2-3 weeks anyway so a bit different as I can get anything I really want into that meal.
@ChairOfInvisibleStudies good luck with the move sounds very stressful.

ChairOfInvisibleStudies · 14/08/2022 18:20

Thanks @ditavonteesed, I hope you're feeling better soon!

SummerSazz · 14/08/2022 18:46

@ditavonteesed that sounds horrid, especially in this heat. Hope it passes soon. My go to is usually eggs - filling and binding but not too heavy?

@ChairOfInvisibleStudies, yes good luck moving. Hope you have removal people!

Baystard · 14/08/2022 18:54

@SummerSazz that's a great NSV, you look amazing in those jeans! I'd be wary of the breadmaker for the mixing stage, the psyllium needs beaten in with the boiling water quite quickly and the breadmaker is designed for more of a slow steady mixing action. Can the breadmaker do bake-only and you mix the ingredients?

Hope you feel better soon @ditavonteesed

@ChairOfInvisibleStudies hope the move goes well.

Those potatoes look pristine @catwithflowers, well done you!

Today I'd been apprehensive about lunch as we were eating in a restaurant that is very carb-based and don't do steak at lunchtime. Turned up to find they do a Sunday carvery, hurrah! Had roast chicken, cauliflower, chipolatas and gravy. The cauliflower had a light coating of cheese sauce that might have had a little flour (it was very translucent so if it was a flour roux base it was very little) but all in all it was a LC success. Supper was well-buttered LC bread and clotted cream with amaretto.

catwithflowers · 14/08/2022 19:17

@Baystard it tasted like a Jersey Royal. Only better 😋 😂

PennyPinkPineapple · 14/08/2022 19:57

@ditditavonteesed I'm sorry you're so unwell, I hope you feel better soon.

Your dinner looked fantastic @catwithflowers you deserved that potato! 😂

Sorry my photos weren't loading earlier @SummerSazz you look great on your jeans, it must be such a good feeling.

PennyPinkPineapple · 14/08/2022 20:04

I missed breakfast today because I was up a lot in the night with my toddler and I ended up not going to sleep until 7am and woke just before lunch.

L - my usual of avocado, a beef tomato and a ball of mozzarella drizzled in olive oil.

D - Moussaka. I made the sauce with shallots, garlic, beef mince, olive oil, red wine vinegar, tinned tomatoes, salt, pepper, oregano and a pinch of cinnamon and I layered it with sliced aubergine and courgettes. The topping was full fat cream cheese, double cream and grated cheddar and I sprinkled parmesan on top. It got the thumbs up 👍

SummerSazz · 14/08/2022 20:05

Thanks @Baystard and @PennyPinkPineapple, it felt good!

@Baystard will rethink the breadmaker and perhaps try and find a breadmaker friendly recipe. From a quick look they seem to use almond flour.

I did find this on my search travels but don't need any more cookery books. I may just download on kindle but not sure how it will look! Only done novels before

StuntNun · 14/08/2022 20:32

Success with lunch, I just had the Bolognese and lots of cheese and very nice it was too. Dinner was salad, sausages and olives followed by strawberries, raspberries and extra thick double cream. Luxury!

Lougle · 14/08/2022 21:35

Sorry you're poorly @ditavonteesed

We had a beach barbecue tonight, catered by a friend. I had decided that if she had a very carb based plan, I would just go along with it because it would be rude to decline everything. As it was, she'd brought burgers, bacon and halloumi, so I cracked on with that and politely declined the bread rolls, crisps, puddings, etc. All good!!

BIWI · 14/08/2022 22:36

Sorry to hear you're not well @ditavonteesed - hope you're feeling better soon Flowers

Fabulous pictures and NSV @SummerSazz! You look amazing!

I had was invited to a lunch today, hosted by my first-ever boss from when I started work. He invites a select few from the department every year (obviously haven't been for the last couple of years!) and he's a really good cook. Unfortunately everything is served plated up, so it's a bit difficult to swerve stuff. But it was delicious and I shall just accept it, acknowledge that it was truly delicious, and get back on the wagon tomorrow.
