Week 7 May 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - the penultimate week

BIWI · 13/06/2022 08:21

Morning all. Beautiful sunny day here - I hope it's the same for all of us.

Here's the spreadsheet, as ever

So only two more weeks to go. Still time to drop a couple of pesky pounds - perhaps more if you're strict - perhaps return to strict Bootcamp for this last fortnight?

Remember this week's challenge is to find/post recipes for your best salads. (Not allowing @venusandmars to post hers Wink)

Good luck everyone Flowers

Oh, and also, have you been taking your measurements as well as weighing?

I've been struggling with finding time to make lunch so I invested in a soup maker. It requires a little prep work, e.g. quartering an onion, but it chops, sautés, heats and blends itself so once it's set up there's little else to do. It makes about four portions at a time so I've got a nice stash of lunches ready-made in the fridge/freezer now. So far I've done Thai green cauliflower curry soup (pictured), celeriac and leek, broccoli and Stilton, and French Onion soup (which required caramelising the onions beforehand but I did that overnight in the sous vide.) If anyone else is as obsessed with kitchen gadgets as me thinking about getting one then I highly recommend it!

First off waist graph.

This looks better than the weight one.

Well there's part of your answer, @ditavonteesed!

Sounds to me that with all your training you're building muscle, which is denser than fat.

Presumably your clothes are fitting much better?

Food
Thursday
2 x fried egg with cheese slice on low carb bread.
Smoked salmon, tomatoes and garlic and herb cheese,
Chicken Katsu burger (14.4g carbs) and salad.

Friday
Fake bacon rasher (4.4g carbs) 2 x fried egg on low carb bread.
Ham and boiled egg, coconut choc pot (11g carbs)
Salt and chilli chicken wings, 6 strawberries and cream.

Saturday
2 x fried eggs on low carb bread. Hot dogs
Fancy salad at cafe, seem to be mainly courgette and cabbage, oily dressing. Def not sweet in any way.
M&S seed cracker thingys with cheese, pickled onion and gherkin.
Strawberries and cream.
Kind bar (11g carbs).

Written down that's bad. I've gone back into processed food without even realising. I have been so hungry after my work outs,

ditavonteesed · 19/06/2022 10:58

Oooo stunt nun that's interesting, lots of the women at work have them and are obsessed but I wasn't sure how it would work for low carb. I love a gadget.

BIWI · 19/06/2022 11:02

There's a lot of processed foods in those few days! And also, you're supposed to be getting the majority of your carbs from veg and salad - not things like chicken katsu burgers or a chocolate coconut pot!!!

There's also a fair amount of sweet stuff too - remember, we're trying to break the hold that sweet stuff has over us.

Where is your veg and/or salad?!

And what about water?

If you're hungry, clearly it's showing that you've used up a lot of energy, i.e. you're working hard at the gym - but also that you need to eat more. Not necessarily before a work-out, but afterwards you could do with adding some protein and fat - a bowl of full fat Greek yoghurt with some peanut butter stirred into it might help?

OP posts:
ditavonteesed · 19/06/2022 11:09

@BIWI I can actually see how bad it is written down, you'd think I'd know better by now. I think I started doing mfp for a couple of weeks and because my macros were in range I didn't really think about what I was getting for numbers. I always start well and then get hungrier and hungrier as the day goes on so the high fat snack after gym is a really good idea. Dh just gone to shop so should have some Greek yoghurt in when I get back.

ditavonteesed · 19/06/2022 11:09

Also I didn't mention water because I have about 3 litres a day of camomile tea, I am properly addicted to the stuff. 😂

MerylSqueak · 19/06/2022 16:19

Hello@BIWI do you have any idea when you will start a shiny new bootcamp, please?

BIWI · 19/06/2022 16:48

Hi @MerylSqueak!

I don't have a specific date yet, although I was thinking of something around 25 July, running for 8 weeks until 18 September.

Would that suit you?

I'm not sure how many people are going to want to participate, given that it falls right across the school holidays!

Newlease · 19/06/2022 17:39

Sounds full on @Lougle hope you have better week next week!
91k on bike! Wow!! You guys are seriously smashing it :) I have been trying to get my watch lights up with three rings these days and achieving it for few weeks now! But it’s just 300 kcal not anywhere near what you all do.
I felt so bloated and jumped on the scale on Friday and has seen 64.7 right were when the long weekend began. But then hit with period on Sat. Atleast that explains the tummy sticking out again! And I am on mini pills and never get periods other than when on LC, so shouldn’t be complaining :( But I was expecting a woosh/ atleast 1.5 lb loss, not sure if any would be there on scale tomorrow!
anyway, not planning to stop next week as I started late so will be doing it until first week of July. Well that’s the plan !
I am not sure of Summer plans yet, but I don’t think I would be able to stick to this as I am really looking forward to few days away from home, even if it’s one day every week! Moved house very far from schools and other clubs, so been a struggle getting kids back to their usual places- and not doing anything to sort the new place. Looking forward to school holidays and a bit of a quiet time, rather than planning and planning for everything, if that makes sense. And also I have seen some ads on Body FX on FB. Looks like dance exercises, would be fun to do with kids in summer. I used to do shred part 1 and 2, but can’t do it with my shoulders anymore. So that’s kind of out of question

FinallyHere · 19/06/2022 18:02

Thank you for offering (or thinking about) another bootcamp starting later in July @BIWI

I'm in now for the long haul and still have some long way to go before I even have to think about maintenance.

Hoping people will stick around here for mutual support between the bootcamp weeks. Having this thread is one of the things that really works for me. Keeping engaged with it, even when I'm not eating 'perfectly' really, really works well for me.

Thank you everyone.

BIWI · 19/06/2022 18:17

Yes, we'll definitely keep this thread going @FinallyHere - always somewhere to chat/ask questions/for help etc!

💐 thank you @BIWI

So useful.

Lougle · 19/06/2022 19:14

I agree that the threads are really helpful. I can't quite get my head around what changes at the end of bootcamp though... If it's a WOE then that's it, isn't it, or we undo everything we've done?

B - 2 bacon, 2 eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes
L - skip
D - roast belly pork, courgette, pepper, aubergine, mushroom, tomatoes. Boiled carrots, broccoli. Raspberries and cream.

Fluids: 3 litres so far but still the evening to go.

IveNeverTriedThisBefore · 19/06/2022 20:57

Hi all, I can understand where you are coming from @ditavonteesed it's very disheartening when you feel you are trying your best.
The only think I would say is I find it very hard to get my head around a new fitness/ gym routine at the same time when I'm trying to concentrate on what I'm eating. It's like my head can't cope with getting around the both
Would you consider spending a week trying to really focus on eating then try to introduce gym again one you have nailed it?
I appreciate easy for me to say as I hate exercise whereas some people love it and also obvs needed for health regardless

Today for me was
B: 3 egg omelette, cheese, spinach & pepper. 2 coffees with milk
It was at 11am so wasn't hungry for lunch
D: bolognese with shoogled broccoli. 3 strawberries and 3 tbsp greek yog
3L down, sitting down now with the last litre

Felt good during week but I hope I haven't ruined it with my wine over weekend! Scales will tell in the morning!

IveNeverTriedThisBefore · 19/06/2022 20:57

PS also just to say I find the threads extremely useful, thanks to all esp @BIWI

SummerSazz · 19/06/2022 21:26

@Lougle I've continued BC Lite since 10 Jan and lost almost 2 stone. It is a WOE for me so I will be continuing and posting(!) throughout.

Mercedesbenz2022 · 19/06/2022 21:33

I will continue with this thread , and would do the next bootcamp

posting even occasionally, but reading daily keeps me somewhat in the straight and narrow

I’ve picked up some good tips from these threads

thanks@BIWI

BIWI · 19/06/2022 22:23

@Lougle what you do when Bootcamp depends on what you've achieved! If you've reached your target weight, then it's about finding a level of carb intake that will mean you don't start to gain weight again.

If you haven't reached your target, then just carry on with Bootcamp or Bootcamp Light - which ever suits you best.

But what you mustn't do is to revert back to eating how you were before you started Bootcamp!

OP posts:
APerfectlyGoodName · 19/06/2022 22:46

BIWI. I'm so impressed that you're repeating these BC so generously. This May/June has worked best for me. This is my second successful BC, and that was May a few years back too. Somehow life gets in the way. I'll be back from holiday end July so may be in need of a short sharp BC though.

like others I intend to hang about the maintenance thread. If I return to LCHF after a slip, I can get my weight, and my wellness back quickly.

NSV - some of my tighter pants are looking wearable

B. Eggs, sausage, tomatoes, rasher.
L.Eggs with cheese.
D. Fish buttered cauliflower and broccoli and green salad.

Lougle · 20/06/2022 06:38

Ok, I get it now, thanks 😊

Well my scales have betrayed me and I am 1.6lbs up on my weight from yesterday. Probably overate at the dinner last night, although I did resist the roast potatoes and swapped apple crumble with custard for raspberries and cream.

Even though I've been down at 138.6lb for the last 3 days, I'll record my 140.2lb today in the spreadsheet. It's still a 2lb loss.

KOKO!

ditavonteesed · 20/06/2022 06:48

I would be up for a boot camp end of July definitely. However like BIWI says she leaves the thread going and a lot of us hang around.

@IveNeverTriedThisBefore that is a good idea but unfortunately the gym is supposed to be the new bot for me I've been eating this way since Jan 21. Just shows how easy it is to slip into bad habits. I was maintaining for a long time then weight crept up a little bit over Christmas, which I lost again. Anyway feeling much more positive this morning. The gym is definitely paying off my arms and legs are so muscly, I like just stroking my triceps 😳
On another note I feel like poo death this morning and am slightly concerned it might be covid, feel like I'm swallowing razor blades. I, going to have to test for work but I was trying to avoid testing until dd has finished exams as I didn't want to add another layer of anxiety.

Lougle · 20/06/2022 06:52

Oh no @ditavonteesed I hope you feel better soon and don't have Covid.
