Week 2 - Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp

Sunday night here is games night, so better that I start the thread now, before I forget as I've gone to bed so late!

I truly hope that this link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness works!

Apologies if it doesn't, but hopefully someone will come and post a working one if it doesn't!

I love week 2, as for those who haven't low carbed before the results are often spectacularly incredible!

But even for those of us who are more used to low carbing, hopefully this first week has seen you make a good start.

It's looking like some warmer weather is heading our way, which always makes things seem more positive - but also focuses our minds on things like skimpier clothing, so hopefully will help to keep us toeing the line!

I hope the scales have rewarded your hard work, and here's to a good week ahead Flowers

Morning all. Well done to the losses, particularly Debka - 7lb is amazing. Flowers for zigg and extra Kudos for all those doing it during Ramadan too. I can’t imagine how hard Ramadan must be in general, let alone while doing a new woe.

I’ve lost 5lb which I’m super pleased about particularly as I’m back in the 11s! Yay, only just I know. But it’s always a hard jump for me even though it’s just a lb it seems the hardest lb to lose and keep off. And my BMI is 23.8.

Spent the day yesterday with the kids at Scotney castle and stopped at a playground on the way home. So it was yet another picnic of cheese, cold meat, salad and coleslaw. I’m so looking forward to a hot omelette for lunch today. Not quite the back to school freedom I was hoping for as ds2 has woken with explosive diarrhoea so is off till at least Wednesday. I did manage to do an hour of Pilates while he was on his tablet tho and I’ve still got some home school stuff I can do with him this afternoon after I’ve collected dd from preschool.

The second hand bookshop at Scotney was open so I managed to get myself 4 new cookbooks for the bargain price of a tenner. I’ve got Delias ‘pork’ and ‘chicken’ and Hugh F-W ‘river cottage year’ and Jamie O ‘Italian adventure’ (which I’ve had a look thru and has some good salad, meat and fish dishes. I’m not even looking at the past, pizza and risotto chapters).

So excited because Pashley Manor is open to visitors for the annual Tulip show and I’m going to book a ticket for next week. I absolutely love tulips.

Have a great start to week 2 everyone. 🌷

Yay! @Hotgotthetrots Flowers

Re exercise, take it as hard as you want/can manage. Yes, initially, it might feel harder but as you become fat-adapted, your body will have plenty of fuel to use. Even endurance athletes have enough body fat!

5lbs off!

cheeseisthebest · 19/04/2021 11:44

Thank you @nowlook and @biwi
It is a 2lb loss but 1lb of it stuck back on this morning! But yes I'm not very patient. Also envious of your 10am lie in!

nowlook · 19/04/2021 11:54

Exciting news! Wink

I have plugged in the reheating lunchbox and slapped some leftover veg and a chicken leg in it.

Will report back in 50 mins. Suspenseful, non?

Hi all, hope you’ve all had a great first week. I signed up for this one, but unfortunately broke my leg last week so am reliant on whatever arrives for food, and can’t really weigh myself. Happy for my name to be hoiked off the spreadsheet. See you in the next one- hopefully without too many layabout pounds added.

prettybird · 19/04/2021 12:16

5.75lb off for me Smile- down to 11st 5.25lb Smile That's more than half of my birthday off-plan eating and drinking gainWink off - only have 3.5lb to go to get to where I'd got to at the end of the last Boot Camp Blush

Not going to complain though - I had a lovely birthday week Grin

11st 5lb was where I stuck for weeks during the last Boot Camp. I'm hoping that because I'm at that point earlier in this Boot Camp, I'll have the momentum to power through it Grin

prettybird · 19/04/2021 12:17

Oh no @Burnshersmurfs Sad What happened? Shock

Nothing too exciting- tripped off the step and landed veeeerrrrrrry badly! Wish I had a better story out of it as compensation!
StuntNun · 19/04/2021 12:30

Oh no Burnshersmurfs what a disaster! Hopefully you can still make good food choices in anticipation of the next Bootcamp. Try keeping sugar low if you can.

Does anyone have a good recipe for taco seasoning or fajita seasoning? My DS4 has demanded Taco Tuesday for tomorrow and I haven't made them in years. I'm pretty sure last time I used an Old El Paso kit but they're full of sugar no doubt.

ElasticFirecracker · 19/04/2021 12:32

I've lost 3lbs which is good.

I haven't had breakfast today. I just feel so full up that I don't want to eat, and then I had to start work. I still feel completely full up and think it will be hard to face eating anything at all, but I will do my best at lunch and will try to fit in a third meal somehow today.

I felt the same yesterday and I had to force myself to have dinner last night.

Is it normal to feel like this?

Also really struggling with 3 litres of water. I can just about manage 2, but last night had to get up three times to pee.

Thinnerlikeachickendinner · 19/04/2021 12:46

Wow, I totally counted wrong, I’ve lost 5 pounds! Hurrah!

BIWI · 19/04/2021 12:52

Oh no @Burnshersmurfs! I think you need to become a very demanding patient, and provide your menus for the week for your servant to produce for you!

@ElasticFirecracker yes - appetite suppression is a key benefit of low carbing! No need to force yourself to eat, but just make sure you don't leave eating too long so that you become ravenous and make the wrong choices. Re the water, try to front load it, IYSWIM, so you're having more of it earlier in the day.

Brilliant @Thinnerlikeachickendinner Flowers

And well done @prettybird

@StuntNun taco seasoning mix recipe here . No idea what that would be like, but it sounds like it has all the right kind of stuff in it!

A REMINDER ABOUT THREAD ETIQUETTE

It's very obvious that people aren't reading the whole thread.

Please don't just plop onto the thread with your own stuff and ignore others' posts. There's so much information and support (as well as general banter) that you will miss this way.

I know that the thread moves quickly, but if you use the bookmarking feature it makes it easier to keep up.

@BIWI

An amazing success! I'm thrilled. It's a complete game-changer for me when travelling. Perfectly warm leftovers in 50 mins.

Now, when I combine this with the vacuum packer, cool box and a couple of trips to Tesco for more ice, I should be able to exist for a week in a Premier Inn on beautiful food I've taken with me. We shall see! Grin

Stepharoo78 · 19/04/2021 13:14

@BIWI thanks for the taco recipe, my kids love tacos as well so I'll definitely give that a go. A meal we can all eat together as well. I've got pork medallions out for tonight - any good recipes? If not I'll chuck them in a bit of butter and have a load of veg with them. Skinny DH can have rice on the side...

StuntNun · 19/04/2021 13:21

Thanks BIWI I have all those ingredients in already which is handy. I might dial back on the chilli for the sake of the wee ones though!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 19/04/2021 13:27

Some amazing losses on here today, well done everyone!

ouchmyfeet · 19/04/2021 13:27

Afternoon all, well done to the losers, some awesome losses posted! KOKO to those who haven't seen as much shift as they wanted. Very pleased for you @Moonswimmer , I'm hoping to cross that particular boundary by the end of this bootcamp too 🤞🤞

4lbs off for me which I'm very pleased with given my mid week pub/wine/chip excursion. Also had another pub afternoon at the weekend and made much better food and drink choices. Halo

I use the taco mix that BIWI posted and it's lovely. Spicier than shop bought, but I think that's better.

ouchmyfeet · 19/04/2021 13:29

@stuntnun my kids like that taco spice mix and one normally totally refuses chilli.

Rayna37 · 19/04/2021 13:41

I mix my fajita seasoning in bulk and keep in a spice jar handy. I use a recipe along the same lines: 1tsp each of chilli, paprika, garlic granules, onion granules, cumin and oregano, and some salt and pepper. Always popular!

Rayna37 · 19/04/2021 13:44

Anyone needing help tracking water or motivation to drink it, look at my lovely waterlogged app telling me "I am successful" Grin

I paid the £3.99 or whatever it was to go add free and I love it! You can add your regular mug/glass/bottle etc and track water vs tea, coffee etc. Gamifying hydration.
