Week 2 - Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp

Sunday night here is games night, so better that I start the thread now, before I forget as I've gone to bed so late!

I truly hope that this link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness works!

Apologies if it doesn't, but hopefully someone will come and post a working one if it doesn't!

I love week 2, as for those who haven't low carbed before the results are often spectacularly incredible!

But even for those of us who are more used to low carbing, hopefully this first week has seen you make a good start.

It's looking like some warmer weather is heading our way, which always makes things seem more positive - but also focuses our minds on things like skimpier clothing, so hopefully will help to keep us toeing the line!

I hope the scales have rewarded your hard work, and here's to a good week ahead Flowers

Hello lovely people, I'm so enjoying the many posts on this thread, thank you very kindly Bootcampers.

I've not even been tempted to stray yet, possibly because I've been busy with fun things. This will change and then I'll see how well I do: there is nothing like a task I dont want to tackle, to make my mind wander to sweet snacks I could eat instead.

The cheeseburger pie was a revelation, thank you very much (sorry, can't remember who mentioned it) I had a slice with spinach for a late breakfast after a good long walk, and IPD butter chicken with roasted sprouts for supper. Breakfast v small yoghurt and cinnamon. Am looking forward to next week when I'm 'allowed' to skip breakfast. Already not hungry when I wake up, such bliss.

NSV I'm down 4.5" on my waist in one week only which gives some clue to the level of bloat and already feel so much better, though still a very long way to go.

KOKO (keeping on keeping on) will be my way forward. Good week everyone.

cheeseisthebest · 19/04/2021 09:40

@ziggzagg so sorry about your Dad.

Well done on losses everyone.
@nowlook could you add me to the spreadsheet? Yesterday I was 140lb.

Thought I would share my Instagram worthy breakfast and creamy coffee!

Week 2 - Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp
cheeseisthebest · 19/04/2021 09:42

My losses are small, very stuck at ten stone i think. Always hungry so need to up the fat but perhaps salmon and avocado rather than yet more cheese! What do the experts think?

venusandmars · 19/04/2021 09:49

Not an expert @cheeseisthebest, but Yes to salmon, Yes to avocado, Yes to olive oil on your avocado, Yes to mayonnaise mixed with cold salmon, Yes to coconut oil to cook a curry and coconut milk / cream added to it, Yes to olives...

I also love cheese, but I do have to watch how much I have.

Midlifemission · 19/04/2021 09:51

Morning everyone
@ZiggZagg so sorry to hear about your DF

Wow to all the great losses this week, too many to namecheck.
Hopefully anyone who has been disappointed will be motivated by others progress. I don't normally use the spreadsheet to record my weight but I just had a quick peek and there are some amazing achievements on there .

I am another 2.5lbs down this week which I wasn't at all expecting as I ended up eating out twice once in our newly revamped local pub and an outdoor roast with DC after their swimming lesson yesterday. The village pub has put in a pizza oven so that's a large part of the menu but mercifully they have also added some decent salads. Also I don't really miss pizza.
It has given me a bit of confidence about maintenance actually as I felt like I had over indulged maybe just because it was food I hadn't cooked myself so didn't know exactly how carby it was. Hopefully it means that if you just keep making the right choices as best you can you don't have to worry too much.

Chilli night tonight and planning trying chicken alfredo tomorrow.

@prettybird your lasagne looks lovely is there a recipe on the recipe thread ? Or do I just substitute the pasta ?

prettybird · 19/04/2021 09:54

@Midlifemission - yes, I put the recipe on the beef etc recipe thread. A while ago now so you might need to scroll a bit to find it.

cheeseisthebest · 19/04/2021 09:55

Thanks venusandmars, just been particularly hungry recently, has been TOTM though. Just has lots of butter with my scrambled eggs and spinach. So good!

Thinnerlikeachickendinner · 19/04/2021 09:58

Morning all, I love the photos of lambs ans ewes so much.

2lb loss here I think, but actually 3 as the day before the first official weighin I was a lb more. Really pleased and excited for this week.

Such great food inspo!

Blue cheese dip (crème fraîche and rocquefort) with celery for breakfast, various salads planned for lunch including courgette/feta/mint, then planning potato free moussaka for dinner.

For the lasagne fans, DH is from a lasagne culture and his family would never use béchamel at all, but rather I think ricotta? Then mozzarella on top. So that might be worth a substitution?

Excited about a new week, although really struggling with the water. Drinking glasses of warm water now as I’m in a cold part of the world and can’t bear necking our ice cold tap water.

Thinnerlikeachickendinner · 19/04/2021 10:00

@ZiggZagg I’m so sorry to hear about your DF. How very worrying and stressful for you.

Midlifemission · 19/04/2021 10:04
@Midlifemission - yes, I put the recipe on the beef etc recipe thread. A while ago now so you might need to scroll a bit to find it.
Thank you I will look!

prettybird · 19/04/2021 10:06

@Thinnerlikeachickendinner - my mum's recipe uses ricotta mixed with egg (but I've experimented and cottage cheese works just the same as ricotta and is a lot cheaper Wink), layered with mozzarella and Parmesan. No Béchamel Grin

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 19/04/2021 10:07

Popping on to log my weight, then will catch up from Saturday.

Three & a half pounds off this week! Takes me back to end of last boot camp weight 🎉

Now the real work begins...

nowlook · 19/04/2021 10:08

Done, @cheeseisthebest!

So sorry to hear about your DF Zigg Flowers

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 19/04/2021 10:15

@ZiggZagg so sorry to hear about your FIL Thanks

Loved seeing the livestock pictures, & reading about inadvertent porn Googling Grin

Congratulations for all those fantastic losses, & Thanks to those who are disappointed.

And, of course, thanks to BIWI, pretty bird, Athelstanetheunread and stuntman for all the hard work Star

Keeva2017 · 19/04/2021 10:30

Well done everyone, some good results there!

Random789 · 19/04/2021 10:40

@ZiggZagg, so sorry to hear about your friend. Congratulations on the weight loss.

I'm a bit envious of the lovely (but I'm sure also very challenging) Ramadan routine of daytime fasting and hopefully tasty and sociable night-time healthy eating. Occasionally I try to make Lent work for me but in reality Lent is just a pale memory from my CofE school childhood so it is a bit of a fraud.

colouringindoors · 19/04/2021 10:41

@Random I'm the same re scales and weight.... even though I know its a week by week, month by month thing. It's weird when you loose 3 lb in 4 days and then stop for the rest of the week. Hey ho.

Trying to get back onto the straight and narrow - a diet coke and 20g 85% dark choc sneaked in yesterday...

BIWI · 19/04/2021 10:51

Well, it's a good job I started the thread last night, because I didn't wake up this morning till nearly 10am Blush

Sounds like there have been some great results in week 1 - but don't panic if that hasn't been you. Remember, it's not a competition and everyone loses at a different rate. And if you have less to lose, you'll lose more slowly.

However, if you haven't lost/haven't lost much, do think back to the week and ask yourself if you've been following all the rules. This is not a very forgiving way of eating, and the odd indiscretion here and there will have an impact on things.

And now to answer some specific posts ...

Firstly, very sorry to hear about your DF @ZiggZagg. I hope everything goes as well as it can, but also make sure that you're taking care of yourself Flowers

Sorry for the confusion @BuffyTheBuffetSlayer Grin - but glad that you found us in the end! Sorry to hear you're ill - hopefully better soon.

Fantastic loss @debka!

I do tend to get a dip in the afternoon, especially if I've run in the morning: I probably ought to eat a bigger lunch, or plan a little snack mid afternoon

Definitely have more at lunchtime - especially more fat - rather than snacking.

Congratulations @Moonswimmer! It's great when you move into another 'class' isn't it?! And what a fantastic first week you've had Shock Flowers

You too @oscarandelliesdad Flowers. Hope your move goes well.

@Bestbees

The discussion about eating breakfast making people more hungry is making me go back to no breakfast

As you've been low carbing for a while, it's perfectly OK to drop breakfast - as long as it doesn't leave you ravenously hungry mid-morning!

Well done @blackbettybramblejam! Sounds like you have a stressful life, which will count against you I'm afraid, so 5lbs is a great start.

@Nateismine great first week! Generally the pattern is as @venusandmars outlined - the biggest loss in week one, which is a combination of water, the glucose stored as glycogen in your liver and muscles and a little bit of fat. Week 2 will be more fat - then we hit the Low Carb Doldrums of weeks 3 and 4 (and sometimes 5) where weight loss slows, sometimes stops and occasionally goes back up. After this, though, you should see a settle pattern of loss, at a lower level. Be aware, though, that it isn't necessarily a consistent week-by-week loss - people talk about having a 'whoosh' because you can go for a while without losing and then suddenly you'll drop 3lbs in one go!

@FinallyHere 4.5 inches is a great NSV Flowers

@cheeseisthebest

My losses are small, very stuck at ten stone i think

You've lost 2lbs so you're not stuck! Please don't be negative about that loss, it's a great loss to record, as you've been low carbing for a while now.

Always hungry so need to up the fat but perhaps salmon and avocado rather than yet more cheese!

Yes, definitely up the fat. Salmon and avocado are great choices, but you could also add a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil to the salmon and/or a vinaigrette dressing to the avocado. Mayo on the side, and butter on your veg/in your cooking too. Don't forget about the water as well - are you drinking all you need to?

@Midlifemission

Hopefully it means that if you just keep making the right choices as best you can you don't have to worry too much

This is the entire thinking behind Bootcamp! Because I'm a lazy arse, I couldn't be bothered with the faff of weighing and counting everything (plus, I hated the obsession with calorie counting in previous diets), so this is why Bootcamp is all about just following the rules.

It also should - hopefully - make it easier when you reach the point where you want to maintain. You will know which choices are best without having to worry too much.

@Thinnerlikeachickendinner how about drinking hot water, with a slice of lemon in it? It's very soothing and, somehow, quite different from cold water.

Well done @MilesJuppIsMyBitch!

Smorgs · 19/04/2021 10:59

Oh silly me, I posted on the old thread.
Anyway, 1.3lbs off this week which is ok considering Cathy Twat showed up uninvited this weekend and I completely went off plan.
Well done everyone else, some great losses already.

BestIsWest · 19/04/2021 11:02

I hate drinking cold water - I top mine up with hot water from the kettle and it goes down much easier if that helps anyone.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 19/04/2021 11:09

Some great reports this morning, really chuffed for you all.

I'm in the less dramatic camp - 1lb off for me (but have been doing this a while and fairly close to goal). First move down for ages though, so happy to on the road again.

Hotgotthetrots · 19/04/2021 11:12

So many messages to read through, so sorry for not name checking - I shall catch up whilst tethered to a works teams call. A big name check to the lovely @BIWI though, for the threat of brandishing sticks and providing lots and lots of wisdom. I am v happy to report a 6.5lb loss! (Noted already on the spreadsheet). Hoorah!

A quick question, if I may pls. The gyms reopened last week and I have enjoyed 4 sessions of mixed cardio and weights and strength training, plus lengthy walks with the dog. I have felt good in all these sessions (and after), but I did wonder whether exercise should be a little more gentle in the first couple of weeks of boot camp?

VeryLittleOwl · 19/04/2021 11:19

@FusionChefGeoff - last possible date for lambs is technically 16th May, but they can go up to 5 days either side of due dates, so I've got about 4 weeks of this unless they're all done before the 16th. Not too bad :)

BIWI · 19/04/2021 11:23

Just picking up on some posts from the last thread:

@Keeva2017 I hear you with the scales obsession! Yes, your shape will definitely change even if the scales remain the same.

However, if you feel things aren't moving quickly enough for you, why don't you post what you've been eating and drinking over the last 3-4 days, and let's see if there's anything we can spot and/or tweak?

@Timetobuckup you have to face your celeriac fears Grin. It's a great vegetable, and so versatile. These are the things I make with it:

 • mash, with leeks and butter, either as a side or as a topping for shepherd's pie
 • dauphinoise
 • boulangere (like dauphinoise but made with onions or shallots, and chicken stock)
 • chips
 • a sort-of crush, with shallots and chorizo
 • roasted chunks, in amongst other roast veg like peppers/courgettes/onions along with sausages

@Nateismine

Please can I have some more advice about the amount of fat to eat

Eg. Greek yogurt - best to add some cream or better not to?

If you're buying the 10% fat yoghurt then you won't need to - but you can, if you like!

Sea bass fillet- will use Mayo to add fat but 1 tablespoon full or 2 or 5???

How are you cooking the fish? Please don't tell me you're grilling it! Fry in lots of butter. You can add mayo when you serve if you like.

And also - what size portion of Greek yogurt do normal people eat? The pot suggests 100g but this looks tiny to me

The individual Total/Fage pots are 170g, so I'd imagine that's what they say is a serving.

And don't worry about the weeing! It will settle down.

@FusionChefGeoff sorry to hear about the reappearance of the palpitations - definitely you need to sort out your electrolytes, and I'd also suggest that you have a slice of wholemeal toast today, as it suggests your carbs might be too low. If the toast sorts them out, then you know that you need to be careful about going too low in future.

@Random789 and @Timetobuckup honestly don't worry about the fat. It is actually very hard to overeat fat as it's so satiating! Also a good idea to read up on the history and science of low carbing, as you'll soon see why we've been given the wrong advice about fat over the last 30-40 years.

Welcome @Word! What kind of plan are you following/how is it different from Bootcamp?

Down 1kg but hoping for more next week. Great start to the week. 45 min spin class this morning and a couple of hard boiled eggs for brekkie. Busy day at work here but It's keeping my mind off food! Great to see everyone's losses are good so far.

@VeryLittleOwl I take t you're into lambing season at the moment - not just very worried about the sheep! Must be exhausting!
