Week 2 - Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp

Sunday night here is games night, so better that I start the thread now, before I forget as I've gone to bed so late!

I truly hope that this link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness works!

Apologies if it doesn't, but hopefully someone will come and post a working one if it doesn't!

I love week 2, as for those who haven't low carbed before the results are often spectacularly incredible!

But even for those of us who are more used to low carbing, hopefully this first week has seen you make a good start.

It's looking like some warmer weather is heading our way, which always makes things seem more positive - but also focuses our minds on things like skimpier clothing, so hopefully will help to keep us toeing the line!

I hope the scales have rewarded your hard work, and here's to a good week ahead Flowers

B: Greek yog
L: cheddar chorizo roll up things & guacamole
D: Turkey meatza & salad

Really stressy day at work, no time to make lunch so grabbed the cheese things and used them as a guacamole-to-mouth transport system. Didn’t have very much of either and stayed full so my appetite seems to be well and truly gone.

Nowhere near enough water.

@AthelstaneTheUnready I’m so sorry about puss. My eleven year old darling lost a battle with cancer soon after my baby was born. It really sucks. Big hug from here

BIWI · 23/04/2021 20:09

@Staffy1

Hi all, I started with everyone last week, but didn't want to officially add myself as I'm terrible for actually sticking with things. So far I have managed, but starting to find it a bit harder now. My scales are rubbish and vary by up to 4lbs from one minute to the next, so difficult to say what my weight is, but it's definitely down consistently from the start. Just wondering if after week 2 we can add other carbs. The original post sounded like some fruit and nuts could be introduced after the first two weeks. I've never done this before so don't have a clue.
@Staffy1 Have you read the Bootcamp rules? Go to the spreadsheet (which is linked to in the OP of this thread) and it will tell you what you can/can't eat on Bootcamp.

I'm so sorry @AthelstaneTheUnready and @Random789 to hear about your beloved pets. They are so much a part of our lives and families it's truly tragic when we have to let them go. Flowers

Thanks, BIWI. Here he is in one of his final sunbathing sessions.

My heart goes out to those pet lovers. I know that I will never understand as I don't have them myself but ThanksThanks for you pain and loss.

I have to side with BIWI as I am old-but-new here and talk of jersey royals, jacket potatoes and boozy zooms does make me wonder why anyone would want to make this bit last any longer than it should!!!

I was just desperate to crack on into 'the good bit' so I really don't get why you'd be cheating this early on. It's not even cheating - it's just starting again every time surely?

I have a water question.

Can you drink too much????

My watch is telling me I'm up to 4 litres and I haven't counted 2 large pots of ginger tea, 2 normal teas and a black coffee.

I also don't feel that great tonight so am wondering if I've managed to flush too much good stuff out!?!

FusionChefGeoff · 23/04/2021 21:02

I had halted a tsp off salt in water about 2 hrs ago and didn't make me feel any better.

If the advice (as I've been told before) is to try the wholemeal toast to check if I've gone too low carb - unfortunately I don't have any - is white bread a disaster zone? Or I've got some chips / nuggets??

L: spinach frittata with leaves and feta
S: prosciutto and manchego
D: fajita chicken salad with asparagus, bacon Caesar salad combo!! Not enough of either for a meal so mixed them up.

Really wanted Greek yog as dessert but I'm far too full and trying desperately to listen to my body instead of my head!

cheeseisthebest · 23/04/2021 21:06

What's the matter fusion are you not feeling too good?

Linnet · 23/04/2021 21:16

B- skipped
L-chicken salad with Mayo
D-a courgette lasagne type thing. The recipe was meant to be the courgette rolled up with the ricotta filling but it wasn’t going to work so I made it into a lasagne and it was amazing, will definitely make it again.

Had my keep fit class tonight, so glad classes are back on but now I’m really tired.

FusionChefGeoff · 23/04/2021 21:16

No feel really really sluggish and my stupid heart palpitations are back.

Tickledtrout · 23/04/2021 21:27

@FusionChefGeoff that must be very worrying. Are lips, hands, feet swollen? Are you passing lots or urine? Personally, yes I would try some easily digested carbs if I felt ill as you describe. The anxiety that you may have drunk too much won't be helping either.
Hope you feel better soon. Maybe phone NHS direct if you're still worried

FusionChefGeoff · 23/04/2021 21:30

@Tickledtrout thank you my stomach is bloated but if you've spotted that's nothing new with me unfortunately. No swelling anywhere else and definitely not bad enough for 111 but it's lovely to know you lot are looking out for me!

Have had 3 leftover chips and some dark chocolate. Am also now resting on the sofa rather than rushing around like a mad thing.

Tickledtrout · 23/04/2021 21:31

That sounds like a good place to be!

cheeseisthebest · 23/04/2021 21:36

Yes definitely rest. My husband had palpitations and giving up caffeine helped x

Staffy1 · 23/04/2021 21:58

@BIWI, I hadn't read it fully Blush but have had a quick look now, thanks.

Staffy1 · 23/04/2021 21:59

Giving up caffeine helped reduce palpitations for me a lot as well.
MrsKoala · 23/04/2021 22:26

Hi all. Sorry I’ve been absent, I have been reading along when I can. I’ve had a stressful week with work, a project I’ve been working on since Jan almost went totally tits up, it’s ended up costing me £2k more than expected and wasting 2 months of work as I had to go back to the drawing board so to speak and take the easy option, which will mean more work down the road on other projects and less flexibility as I’ve used my contingency fund. Anyway, after all that rambling i got it finally done today. I felt so happy at first but now I feel exhausted. So it’s a takeaway curry tonight.

@Bestbees sympathy for you re your son and his face. I’ve had many trips to a&e with my boys. Just last week ds2 had his chin glued together. Also regarding what you said about how many children don’t have the parent who can advocate for them. My boys have various SEN and I’ve been fighting since ds1 was one. He has what the paediatrician described as ‘complex needs’. Someone once said to me he’s so unlucky to have all the things he has. I said actually no he isn’t, he’s one of the lucky ones. He’s from an affluent family, he’s born in an affluent 1st world country, He’s got white male privilege, He has a mother who is going to be able and more than willing to fight every step of the way. I’d rather he has what he has than anyone else does. Can you imagine how shit their lives are?

I also saw Arundel castle on tv this morning and was thinking about this thread. 🌷for all.

Sorry to hear of the poorly cat @AthelstaneTheUnready and your dog @Random789 I have been heartbroken too about the furrier members of my family. I am an only child and grew up with no real family other than my parents and I’ve always connected to my animals. When they are ill or die, if you’ve been lucky enough to love them and they love you, it’s going to be painful. Flowers

FusionChefGeoff · 23/04/2021 22:32

@cheeseisthebest all my tea / coffee is decaf for that very reason!

Covid10lbs · 24/04/2021 00:24

Thanks for the parmesan breadcrumbs tip, it sounds like a good idea.

I'm still on board, so I'm just pleased at that.
B. 3 eggs with greens& blue cheese.
L. Half protein bar, greek yogurt.
D. Bolognaise FLGV.
2 L water & square of 85% chocolate with herbal tea.

I can eat one square of 85% chocolate, which I simply cannot do with regular chocolate.

ZiggZagg · 24/04/2021 01:38

Hello,

BC has gone to complete shit!

Dad passed away last night at 1am, he was really peaceful in the end and didn't struggle. He is no longer in pain or suffering with his breathing, so I'm very grateful for that but I'm going to miss him so much, he was my best friend Sad

Needless to say, I've been grabbing food where and when I could as ended up staying in the hospital most of the time, pasta, bread, cake. It's what I needed to get through.

However, dad was really proud of my weight loss and always told me how great I was looking so I'm determined to make him proud of me. I will weigh in on Monday (fully expecting a large gain) and continue with bootcamp. I'm going to be kind to myself, he would not want me going back to how I was as he knew it didn't make me happy and that is all he has ever wanted for me.

Sorry for the long ramble but I'm trying to be very strong for my kids and family so have just let it all out here!

Keeva2017 · 24/04/2021 01:59

@ZiggZagg I’m very sorry for your loss, by the sound of it he was a loving dad. I hope you have plenty of support and love around you.

Moonswimmer · 24/04/2021 06:04

ziggzagg I’m so sorry to hear your news and am thinking of you. My father always wanted the best for me too, and that has weirdly felt like a stronger force in my life after he died than before. It’s such a weird sad time - take care of yourself.

nowlook · 24/04/2021 06:53

I'm so very sorry about your Dad @ZiggZagg Thanks

Jellycatspyjamas · 24/04/2021 06:57

So very sorry for the loss of your dad @ZiggZagg Flowers

debka · 24/04/2021 06:57

@ZiggZagg I'm so sorry to hear about your dad
@AthelstaneTheUnready poor poorly cat too: I had to have mine put to sleep last year, it was a bloody awful day and I was very sad :(
Had a bit of a day yesterday, met with practice manager but also with the new training lead for my surgery who is trying very hard to get me to stay. Setting up a tripartite meeting next week to discuss my ongoing support. If I don't feel confident in the plan going forward then I will leave. I feel bad though because I've already accepted a job at another practice, and the practice manager there keeps ringing me too. I'm really torn- I want to leave because my current practice is terrible and failing me in my training, but I do feel a sense of loyalty to them. DP thinks I should go, hell, even my current COLLEAGUES think I should go! Arghhh!
Anyway, after that long and stressful day I got home and DP had bought ribeye steak which is my favourite, and a dick emoji (his words!)- aubergine! We had ribeye, griddled aubergine and salad with an oily dressing and it was LUSH.
Not sure on food today, it's shopping day so we'll plan later this morning. I do have a date planned with my best friend to the champagne bar at the end of the Harbour Arm this afternoon, so one glass of dry, cold, fizzy Champagne is definitely happening today Grin
